How to Save World of Warcraft Gold like a Pro
How to Save World of Warcraft Gold like a Pro
Why Save?
If you are a long time reader of the blog, or even a new twitch follower or chat to me on twitter, then you will know that
The single most important reason why you are not rich is because you are spending your gold.
Warcraft gives us so many ways to make gold: quests, garrisons, professions, farming, selling, even the WoW Token.
Yet the number one query I get is “I don’t have enough gold“.
You. Have. Spent. It. All.
How to Keep your Warcraft Gold
Piggy Bank
Make yourself a piggy bank character. Or designate an unused alt as your piggy bank character. Not your bank alt, because you’ll just spend it.
If you’re going Pro with this, and have a second account, mail your gold to a character on your second account. No more temptation to touch it.
Pick a set amount per day and mail it across. Without fail.
Pros, if you make 50k a day, mail 40k a day across.
Beginners, if you make 1,000g, then mail 500g across, keep 300g for reinvestment, and 200g for play money.
How much to Mail to your Piggy Bank?
Challenge yourself.
If your daily income is 100-200g then set aside 150g for savings. Make it so that it hurts just a little bit.
Make it so that you are stretched a little bit, challenged to make a few more gold, challenged by yourself to sell a few more items, to spend a few less gold.
Advanced Gold Saving with Trade Skill Master
I save my gold by sending to a piggy bank character (and once that piggy bank character is full up, by making a new piggy bank character) and using TSM to transfer the gold automatically.
1. Open your Mail Box.
2. Open TSM Mailing tab (bottom of mailbox window)
3. Choose Other from top tabs
4. Find Send Excess Gold to Banker
5. Type in your piggy bank character name BE CAREFUL
6. Set a limit in gold – the amount that you want to keep on this current character
7. Click Send Excess Gold To
990,000g
I keep 990,000g on my characters because this allows me to receive gold from my garrision missions, or to receive one iteration of the mailbox (50 sales) without going over the gold cap. if I get over approx 994k then I mail my extra on to the piggy bank.
I keep 990,000g on my character because I am expected to display a large amount of wealth on twitch/twitter/screencaps. You don’t need to do this! You can set the amount that you want to keep.
It’s worth noting that if you have 998,000g and you earn 4,000g from Blingtron’s Vault, then you will get 999,999g in your bags and the rest of the mail will disppear into the Nether ! omg. Be careful guys.

hello again 😀 i am paul from the farming felblight article. i always try to not only ask but to also share 😉 here is some data i was able to recopilate (i only have 3 characters tho)
– over i week i monitored the amount of gold from inn/tavern misions and i found i made on my 3 characters 296 gold – 312 gold – 327 gold daily so basically thats whats the inn/tavern is worth a day.
– also over 1 week i made around (not using everyday the work orders on post due to the required reagents) 539 garrison resources daily.
now i have some questions if u can answer please 😀 i always use the run get all scan on auctiondb to get prices, but sometimes it bugs out and the wow freezes. so:
1) using the tsm desktop App is better tan run get all scan? it wont freeze?
2) i read somewhere that tsm desktop App has administrator rights to modify things, and some people is scared of that. what do u think on that matter? is it safe to use tsm desktop App?
ty 🙂
Hi Paul
I think the inn is invaluable because not only does it give weekly treasure hunters or greasemonkeys, but it also offers extra inn-only quests
http://www.wowhead.com/missions=1.35
including The halls of skyreach which is 150g base, that’s 600g with full TH, and that’s only out of many quests unlocked.
Regarding the TSM desktop app, I was always very wary of installing anything like that on my PC, and I hesitated to use it for a long time. It’s only this year that I have taken the leap and started to use it. It works better for me in my situation because I can always be sure that my data is up to date, and I can also be sure that I have all my settings backed up.
Regarding the safety of the app, I can sympathise with where you are coming from. What really helped me was when I got to know the TSM devs and chatted with them and started to realise that they were just ordinary players like us, and would not make an app for nefarious means. Whether you should take that risk is totally up to you, I dont know how you feel about risk in general. Maybe you should go chat to the guys who make it?
Hello again and thanks for your answer 🙂
and what i meant is for a week i wrotte down all the inn misions on 3 of my characters, who have 2 to 3 treasure hunters of each counter (thus having max gold per misión) and then over the course of that week, i added all results then divided by 7, and i got that total per character: 296 – 312 – 327 gold, because the days you get the 600 gold inn misión balance out with the days having only 80 to 100 gold inn misions (after treasure hunter bonus) and i was offering that data to you 😀 well to all who read 😀 thanks again.
One thing that has worked for me is to keep a spreadsheet with my total gold updated each day. I have a column that shows my profit/loss day on day.
Seeing a negative number against any day pains me, so it makes me really think about what I’m buying. If I drop on a day, I make a note about what I spent it on. So for example if I’m restocking mats I expect to see a bump in the next few days as they get processed and sold.
Wow, ok that’s dedication. I have been looking at Accountant to keep a daily tally of my gold, but so much of wealth is measured not in gold coins but in assets for sale in the AH. The new TSM3 has a lovely little extra in the TSM Accounting module that adds up the value of your bag btw.
Anyway, yes, you’re right its good to keep track of what you have, to measure, so you can challenge yourself to move forward from there and ensure, as you say, you don’t fall backwards.
I actually tried to do this, set up a specific amount but it wont work…Like it keeps saying no target specified and doesnt actually change it out and change my options in here 🙁
When you type in the name of the recipient, make sure that the name is added to the second line “Send Excess Gold to Fred” and click send. Make sure you have up to date version of TSM, that you have no clashing addons, and if there is a bug, contact the devs.
Except the fact, I type in the name. I type the amount of gold, and it NEVER lights up giving me the option to send excess gold. It stays grey, I click on it anyways….nothing happens.
After you type the name press return if it doesn’t fill in the field.
Check for clashing addons
check for up to date TSM
Contact the Devs if there is a TSM bug
