Remember my post on Satchel of Exotic Crap?

Satchel of Exotic Mysteries

Sack o’ crap

I wasn’t impressed by Blizzard’s attempt at bribery for tanks and healers to join pug heroics and dungeons.  It was easier for them than actually making tanking and healing fun, but I wasn’t impressed by the rewards offered.

After tanking a little (I still refuse to heal!) and earning my own satchels of Exotic Crap, I’m don’t hate it so much.  I got BoE Argent Tournament pet from the opposite faction.   Then I sold it for about 5,000g, I forget the actual amount.  That’s cool beans.

Here’s some other stuff you can get from these Satchels of Exotic Mysteries

http://www.wowhead.com/item=69903/satchel-of-exotic-mysteries#contains

  • Level 85 flasks
  • Rare (blue) uncut cataclysm gems
  • Pets (Companions) including Argent Tournament pets and more common pets like cats, moths, and snakes

Mounts

  • Reins of the White Polar Bear
  • Reins of the Blue Drake
  • Reins of the Green Proto-Drake
  • Reins of the Blue Proto-Drake
  • Swift White Hawkstrider
  • Reins of the Raven Lord
  • Deathcharger’s Reins
With the prices of gems currently skimming lower and lower, it’s the argent tournament and more rare pets in the satchel that interest me as a gold maker.

Warning

The satchels themselves are Bind to Account, which means they can be transfered with content intact to other characters on your account.  Once you have looted the items, and the mounts become soulbound, you can’t mail them across.  So if you are going to transfer a duplicate mount to an alt, turn off your autoloot when you open the bags!

The player in this youtube movie made an average of 72g in each satchel of exotic mystery.

If you’re a competent tank or healer and can bear to run PUGs with strangers, earn a satchel today, and please come back and let me know what sort of drops and gold you get?

I was lucky enough to get a Reins of the Blue Proto-Drake yesterday. So glad as i was solo farming Utgarde Pinnacle for some time.

Amazing what a blood Death Knight can do these days 🙂

For cata I leveled a death knight to 75 in a few days for a max alch/inscrip alt. I slowly worked him towards 85. After 4.2 I finally got max level on him, being a tank he got geared up to full epics in a couple days and out geared my main quickly.

I love it. Tank que’s are instant so you can essentially farm these 24/7. I use him as an excuse to farm mounts for my main and jp for all heirlooms.
I’ve prolly collected 50 bags in the last couple weeks so I’ll share my tips.
There is a balance between deciding to go for the normal heroic satchel or the zandalari heroic. The zandalari’s can take 10-15m longer for the same reward but you usually get a MUCH smoother group. Some normal heroics have groups that have no hope no matter how well geared the tank is. So you can join this group and keep wiping on the first boss for 20m then you quit (any sooner and you get debuff) get stuck with a 100g repair bill, waste of time and nothing to show for it.

Heroic: 20-30minutes, easy, quick, fastest jp farming (or honor), CRAPPY groups in general.
Zandalari: 35+ minutes, about twice as challenging, GREAT groups and most know mechanics of fights.

Sometimes you get pulled in for last boss and get the satchel for a couple min of work. That’s the best.

Now onto what everyone was looking for. Drops!

Each bag contains about 55-110g and 1 of the following Below: (check wowhead)
    1-3 cata potions/elixers
    1 flask
    1 rare gem
1 companion (can be vendor pets, damn you prarie dog)
1 mount (off the top of my head, green proto, white polar bear, anzu, blue proto?, along those lines)

Now while this may not seem all that great at glance, there’s a few things to keep in mind.
    1 it’s free don’t bitch lol
2 it is BOA. Ahem… It’s BOA! Mounts/pets can be mailed to collector alts. It also means that if you happen to find anzu you will be able to mail and use it on a lvl 40+ toon. Do I hear twinks out there screaming? Yeah that’s right. New sexy mount in the 40-69 bracket and chances are you’ll never run into someone else with one.
If it has a pet you can mail it cross faction to your other toon for maximum gold.
If boa’s are ever able to be traded across servers then these can be exploited to sell rare Pets on the most expensive realms.

No luck on mounts, but I’ve probably gotten about 8 pets. some are worthless but argent tournament pets are 3-5k ea.

I just like how the bag gives unlimited chances a day to get mounts. Gives mount collectors a little break from the steady 1% a day scenario

I haven’t had much luck with the Satchels. Earned about 20, and received nothing but two flasks, lots of pots, the occasional gem, and a cockroach. Definitely not worth it, given the luck I’ve had.
