Royal Satchel
Anyone making gold in World of Warcraft needs the biggest and best bags in the game.
In Cataclysm these are Illusionary Bag []. 26 slot made with Dreamcloth.
In Mists of Pandaria, tailors can now make Royal Satchels with Imperial Silk.
24 slot bags
Royal Satchels are a 24 slot Non-Bind-on-Equip bag. That makes them smaller than Illusionary Bag, but it also makes them transferable after one alt has finished with them.
A non-soulbound bag is the standard bag.
Netherweave (16) [], Imbued Netherweave (18) [], Frostweave (20) [], and Embersilk bags(22) [] were all Bind on Equip.
Mooncloth (16) [], Runecloth (14) [], and (world drop) Traveler’s Backpacks (16) are not BoE, and can be passed from one alt to another, and indeed sold on the Auction House when you’ve finished with them.
The other 24 slot bag in game is the Portable Hole. This was the top end bag from Paris Hilton in Shattrath, until Illusionary Bags were introduced.
Royal Satchel Pattern
Seen myself in the Black Market AH run by Madam Goya at the Tavern in the Mists.
The Black Market Auction House is at the top of the stairs, which are in the cliffs at the far north east of Valley of the Four Winds (that’s the farming area just after Jade Forest).
There is no buyout, although you can bid the maximum of 999,999g which means no one else can outbid you.
Materials For Royal Satchel
The mats for the new Mists of Pandaria bag are currently set at 12 Imperial Silk.
Imperial silk in MoP Beta takes 2 bolts of Windwool Cloth and 3 Spirits of Harmony. Again, this could change.
Plans for the Royal Satchel
Blizzard could:
- Leave it as it is;
- Make it Bind on Equip;
- Make it a 28 or 30 slot bag;
- Make this a bag which replaces the current standard 16 slot backpack;
- Decrease the mats costs;
- Completely delete it and laugh at us because it was just a placeholder all along.
Is Royal Satchel the only Bag?
Everyone expects new bags in an expansion to be the next slot size up.
I would have predicted a BoE Windwool Bag at 24 slots, and an unnamed Rare bag at 28 slots. There have also been some calls on the WoW forums for a tailor-only Bind on Equip 30+ slotter.
Will I buy Royal Satchels?
All my alts are decked out in 26 slot illusionary bags in most inventory and bank slots. I will be holding out to hear about a 28 slot rare bag instead!
The Gold Queen is written by Alyzande. With many level 100s, 9 years expertise in making gold, 10 garrisons, 16k achievements, 1505 days played, and over 18m gold earned. The Gold Queen blog teaches you how to make gold playing World of Warcraft using ethical trading, auction house flipping, crafting, reselling snatch lists, and farming gold making.
The bag is now listed as 28 slot boe on wowhead. I’m curious though, I don’t have millions of gold and acquiring all Royal Satchels for my main will take some time. Volatile life prices have fallen drastically, would it make sense for me to just buy those out and slowly fill out my toons with Illusionary bags using my tailors cd and stores of cloth?
I’m sure sure I can guess.
All my alts have had illusionary bags as soon as I could afford any, but that’s because bagspace is my priority. For comparison, most of them only have 280% flying, not 310, because their job is to stand around in the city and craft. That will have to change in MoP because Spirit of Harmony requires you to kill things. Regularly.
You might find that once you have crafted illusionary bags, that their sales prices are more tempting than equipping them. Or you may find that you have crafted half of them, when you become able to afford the Royal Satchels. Or you may find that Royal Satchels themselves get superseded by another bag again.
To summarise, I don’t think we can future proof bag sizes, because we dunno what future will be like, yet.
I’m waiting, beta is beta 😉 What I would love to see is the default backpack getting an upgrade. Perhaps by paying a vendor for an upgrade, a guild achievement or simply upping the slots for everyone. It bugs me that I have 26 slots in me free slots and the max I can get default is 16 🙁 I could use those 10 extra slots!
/agreed
and then I want a void storage and bank storage without having to go to the city.
and a travelling AH that you can bump into in wild places like Townlong Steppes, or Ashenvale or seomthing weird.
I have wild ideas I know
I can agree that players will want bigger bags. but there is a point that the majority aren’t going to be willing to pay a premium for 2-4 extra slots.
Profession bags sell, but always at a premium due to their material increases. Anything that will require silk materials from MOP is going to be incredibly expensive from the start. So only the gold rich will probably be willing to pay right out of the chute.
I’m voting for placeholder myself, and keeping my netherweave cloth 🙂
Windwool is kinda junk at the moment, but that silk is going to be expensive!
Almost certainly a placeholder. Although Blizzard has said they don’t want to keep increasing bag sizes every expansion, there is no way this will actually make it to live as *smaller* than the Illusionary Bag.
