TGQ, the Cataclysm
You may or may not be aware that despite my shiny domain name and shiny new website design and free forums and email subscriptions and twitter microblog, that I’ve been properly blogging about gold for a little over a month. My first few posts were absolute tripe when I read back on them, I can’t possibly count them as blogging. Who the hell cares whether I made X amount of gold that week or if I underhandedly made myself another thousand? Jeez, what was I thinking?
In these few weeks, I’ve started now to learn the basics of what to post, how to post, what you want to read. Not another bland review of buy low sell high, that’s for sure.
- It is insanely easy to browse through the blog and choose a random tip (Sell arcanite bars!) or a random strategy (undercut by 50% to annoy your competitor!) and throw it at your auction house, and walk away with a few gold.
- It’s insanely easy to take that tip the next day and find that it no longer works, and come back to my blog and look for another shiny, flashy tip.
- You can get caught up in this pick and mix bullcrap for the rest of your World of Warcraft life, if that’s all you want. If all you want is mediocre success, if all you want is a few gold.
- Markco of Just My Two Copper agrees with me.
If you want to understand what you’re doing, if you want to make huge amounts of gold, you got to get off your backside and work. Making real gold is not simple, and its not quick. I can not make you rich quick. I can’t teach you how to get rich quick.
I can teach you how to teach yourself to get rich at a good steady solid pace.
How’s that for honesty?
Here is my commitment to you:
I will still give you shiny, get-rich-quick tips, quick ideas that you can take away and ADD to your current strategy. I’m going to help you learn the whole she-bang the whole truth about how to get really rich. How to mess up, how to try again, how to lose gold, and how to put all these things together to make a proper solid gold making business. That’s partly why I give away my ‘daily guide’ book with my email newsletters. The daily guide book is an empty framework for you to take away, and fill with your own regular routines, your own strategies that work. Its a barebones shell that you can use on your server.
I have joined a Mastermind group with a very small group of other gold bloggers who have committed to meeting together regularly to review, critique and support each others plans and posts. We want to increase our quality. We are dedicated to bringing you the best stuff that we can.
For your sake: I promise to yawn at their boring proposals but I promise to stand up and cheer and support them when they come up with a good idea. With self-confidence as fragile as mine, I’m scared sh-tless what they might say to me.
Here’s what I need from you. It’s two things.
- First off, fire me a comment to tell me that you approve. I’m human, and your support means the world to me.
- Secondly, I want you to share this webpage. Either click one of my sharing links and repost this on twitter, facebook, or stumbleupon. Or just tell a single guild mate to come and read The Gold Queen. Gimme some more readers, make me more accountable, and I’ll be doubly supported in this scary step I’m about to take.
The Gold Queen is written by Alyzande. With many level 100s, 9 years expertise in making gold, 10 garrisons, 16k achievements, 1505 days played, and over 18m gold earned. The Gold Queen blog teaches you how to make gold playing World of Warcraft using ethical trading, auction house flipping, crafting, reselling snatch lists, and farming gold making.
cool little blog, keep it up. the more you do it, the better things you’ll write. Like the others have said you’ve helped add things I would have never thought to my routines. Keep it up, and make me keep coming back!!! 🙂
Thank you for being so kind and encouraging. Anything in particular you’d like to see, in order to keep you coming back ?
Hi there,
I was introduced to your site a few weeks back and visit it everyday. It’s YOUR site, and if people don’t like it, let them move on. I do think that you’re being a tad hard on yourself. Everyone plays WoW differently and I find your tips very useful for long-term strategy. Anyway, keep up the good work and thanks for posting!
I’m always hard on myself Peter. My goal in life is to “be me, only better”. This is a public pep-talk to myself 🙂
My first comment is define your audience….is it to be the new seller or the long time gold maker. Your audience will define how you need to write and what you need to address.
Lots of blogs write tips….make gems/buy ore/ don’t sell herbs sell ink….all these types of tips are just one offs that don’t really help people understand why. The unique blogs have some insight into what to do. They are the rare blog…..early Marko posts…were very interesting….he was the first person that I read that understood the gold making process in the same fashion that I practiced. The best tip I have ever read is to find out there was an addon called quickauctions3. That tip alone resulted in me going from the basic 214k gold cap to many multiples of it.
People still write and don’t understand the basics. The simple process of milling that creates 2 different inks baffles many on how to value. Even Markco for all his great ability to write well and make gold….struggled to explain it well in his early podcasts as it kept being readdressed in a couple of subsequent podcasts. People often get lost in the semantics of it. Another blogger recently expanded on the concept of free ink. Lots of people struggle to see his point. Being able to write to let people understand what it means and how to deal with it….is key.
Posts re how to make gold…need to address the basics. How do you identify a market. These days understanding Undermine Journal lets you get to those niche markets. How to use addons….can be a big time saver. Addons like Trade Skill Master……have a use but I have yet to see anyone explain why TSM is better than the other addons out there. Too often we see items like this talked about with an assumption that the restocking happens at the same time as the crafting. There are patterns for buying and for selling. I have made my gold…..mostly from the simple adage of finding my deals and selling normal. I buy when things are cheap based on my knowledge of the markets. Addons like Orecrusher….again ignore the time factor of the buy vs sale. I can sell some items at prices that are 30-50% of their price that is at 7pm by selling them overnight. It works with many basic mats. This type of point is rarely mentioned when discussing these addons. Too many may just take this for granted but the new auctioneer….still has this to learn.
I read for interest. I don’t expect any blogger to really tell me something that will make me gold. I am happy when I read something that helps but I don’t expect it. Write to entertain and provide some useful information and you will attract readers.
Hi Brent, a really in depth comment. Can I email you to ask you some more about it? Sounds like you can see some ideas I’m missing.
I’ve enjoyed your articles and think your site is great. I’ve been a bit of a gold making rut lately and to be quite honest am feeling a little overwhelmed by all of my professions. Right now my game time is extremely limited because I work fulltime and go to school fulltime in addition to my responsibilities as a husband and dad.
A series I would be interested in is how to get back to the basics and get organized when you fall into a rut.
Updog, your comment is brilliantly helpful, and I really appreciate it. I’m going to take it away and think what I can do to help the new-to-gold-making beginners that are being overlooked at the moment. Further ideas are welcome!
I approve. On another note can we have a guessing game about who the other bloggers are? We can make real guesses and you can reward imaginary prizes if we guess correctly.
Cheers, Gear
ps. love the use of ‘whilst’ in your posts. As a Canadian the term is severely under used on this side of the pond.
Oops is my Queen’s English showing? heh
And yes please, do go ahead and have some fun guessing who they are. I’d name them except I think it would be rude to do so without their permission, so I’ll let them do that (or not) on their own blogs.
I’m gonna give you a clue though: None of them are movie stars. What do you mean, that doesn’t help?
I’ve just been turned on to your site, and I have to say, I agree with Syn’s assessment. Your tips are fantastic, your writing style is excellent, and I’m definitely reading back through your posts for information and entertainment.
Here’s the thing about the seemingly random tips that you or any other blogger posts out there. Some people may do exactly what you’re saying, just go grab a tip, work it for a few days, then grab another. That’s fine for them. But others take those tips and help build long-term strategies. Sure, not all will stick, but that’s part of the failure side of things. In order to make an omelet… You know the rest.
I’ve been playing since launch day, with a couple of year break to go back to school. I’ve only been back in the gold making game for about two months now. I’ve taken and tried a lot of tips. Some have worked, some haven’t; but the point is, through me trying out what tips I’ve found, I’ve developed my own strategy on how to attack the market. These tips are the springboard into larger ventures. So yeah… Your gold tips certainly do NOT suck.
Hi Cort, and thanks for the link to Syn’s post/reply to this, that’s cool!
I’m really glad that what I’m posting is useful to you and entertaining too. But more than that, I’m glad you’re able to take my stuff, chop it up and make your own strategies and techniques with it, tailored for you.
I’m inspiring to someone. That’s mind-blowing :O
Don’t worry about getting rude comments. This is your blog and you DO have access to a delete button. I’ve only had to delete a few comments over my time writing my blog. And the people that disagree with a few methods that I talk about (usually) do so in a polite manner. Just keep telling yourself that what you’re doing is working for you and your bank account confirms that so why should anybody think it’s wrong?
Besides almost everything in the gold making world is like gearing a tank, it’s all subjective and works ONLY for you in your specific situation on your server with your supply and your competition. In other words it is all opinion for the most part. Share your ideas and experiences and help others learn and you’ll learn a few things as well. I know I have.
so far the only ones I’ve deleted were “adverts” for medicines etc. I’m quite happy with the size of my penis already lol lol.
All criticism is good if it helps you improve. If it says “what a waste of my time” then that doesn’t actually help me!
We’re all still learning along the way. I won’t stop until wow ends. Think that will be soon or years away?
The question you have to ask yourself is are you happy whit what you write?
You already answered that no, so you went looking for ways to improve yourself.
You think your gold tips are bad?
You haven’t read mines for sure. 🙂
In the end that is all that matter, if we like what we do, we “fight” for it, we want to be recognized for a “job” well done, but in the end are we welling to put the most effort to make the blog the best it can be?
I am struggling to improve mine but so far it’s hard ,I don´t invest all the time I could,I am always telling my self I don´t have time, but i play others game, and do other stuff, so i am spending precious time in others thing that i could use in the blog, until i finally find the correct balance, only them I will be proud of my “work”.
You should already be proud what you have so far, you have made one hell of a excellent blog, now you are just getting better in fine tunning it.
I really should follow my own advices, god dammit. I should stop being lazy.
“I really should follow my own advice, god damnnit, I should stop being lazy”
Lol, and I should be logged off WoW and working properly on writing my next guide, instead of pretending I’m doing ‘research’. Ahem. bad Gold queen 😀
I must say i like your guides. C: (that was all)
Thank you, that was appreciated 🙂
I wonder where the secret Mastermind groups hideout is in the world of Azeroth. You should create aliases and make characters to represent them. How awesomesauce would that be. On a more serious note: That sounds good and I am curios to see how and if those meetings will lead to strategies / posts that haven’t been made so far.
There are 4 of us, we’ll meet on Skype, I’m happy to wave my own name around, but didn’t want to release their info without their permission. Keep your eyes peeled 🙂
I’d like to hang out somewhere no-one ever goes, like blades edge ^^
