The servers just went down in Europe and this new patch brings me a whole host of new opportunities. Some opportunities will be lost, like my reliable old gem business, but the first few days of 4.01 are going to net me a small fortune.
Here is a brief summary of the glyph changes. http://www.wowconfidential.com/professions/inscription/glyph-changes-in-cataclysm/ For us gold makers it means one thing: A massive surge of interest in glyphs in the first few days of the patch, tailing off over time. Which is why I spent this week crafting over 4,000 glyphs!
I spent the last few seconds on my server ploughing them into the AH on long buy out. I set a high price, several times that of the other sellers, as an incentive for other glyph sellers to price high, and earn lots of shiny gold. I decided to start posting them early, to get in just before everyone else did. Leading the way, rather than following. I was very glad that I did, because they immediately started selling at 45g each, even before the patch has hit!
I still have not managed to post more than half of my glyph stock on the AH and already they’re flying off the shelves! I am so very excited about the coming opportunities in the next few days.
45g x 4000 = a potential 180,000g
For those of you that noticed in the image that my auction house char only has 94g, that is because I keep my gold on another char, otherwise I will spend it all! heh.

This is a sneaky trick I invested in, which paid dividends this morning. You might be able to use it, or you might just get a good chuckle.
First find something in game that might or might not be being removed in next patch. Your target is the “nub wannabe AH player” who doesn’t check patch notes.
- Purchase said item for 500g.
- Purchase ANOTHER one for 500g.
- Put them both on AH for 10,000g each, 12 hours sell out (creates a sense of panic) for the next week. Watch everyone else panic and increase their prices to 6k, 7k, 8k.
- Let the word get around the server. Patience, young padawan. “haha Feb is selling the item for 10k!” but then watch all the other sellers panic and try and cash in.
- Time it right, trust your instincts and you wont miss. Post your item for sale at 2,899.
- BINGO! Your item sells immediately to Panicbiuyrdk. Deduct the 5g it cost to continually post the item.
- Repeat with the other item. because your first one sold so fast, no one will know or realise that it is not a cheap bargain.
Profit: 2,394g x 2
Damn I am a sneaky minx.

The value of your auctions can now (2015) be easily discovered by using Trade Skill Master, however, before this was available, back in 2010, I found a new addon called Big Picture which snaps-on to Auctioneer Adv addon, and gives you information on the values of your items in your bags and posted on AH.
It can be used to see how much auctions are worth, roughly. So if I feel downhearted that my current ‘float’, ie liquid gold, is low, I can see that perhaps I have spent more than normal on items which are now up for sale.
Anyway, I can use it in my current project to find out how much gold I’m “worth”. I will use this as my starting point, which I will measure again in a few weeks time.
Here is a ROUGH look at my three servers where I play AH:
1 Alliance 44k
2 Alliance 48.8k + Horde 3.5k
3 Alliance 2.6k
Total 98.9k (*2010 figures!)
Then add in my float, that’s gold I have available in my bags, 156k, to get my total worth:
(ps I made another 2,000g whilst I was writing this post!)
Starting Gold on World of Warcraft
There is no way I can measure my progress or achievements, successes or failures, without knowing my starting point. I can break this down to:
- Current gold
- Value of auctions currently on AH
- Value of items in bags (sometimes known as Looted Items Value LIV or Assets Value)
I have to start with calculating this amount because it is the easiest to find. Because I use Altoholic addon First we check “all realms, this account”Then look further down and you can see the current total.
This is the amount of liquid currency I keep on my characters, so they are able to buy any item they need, in order to craft or resell.
