We Need To Talk About Inscription

Blizzard, you can do better.

Something a bit different today: Not a gold guide, but a suggested idea and a way to make the world feel a little bit more unique and the players a little bit more special.

Background to Inscription

Inscription was how I made my first gold cap. in 2010 Glyphs changed to become permanent, like this:

This is what Glyphmas 2010 looked like when I had 4000 pre-made glyphs ready for the changes that came in Cataclysm. Can you remember when 45g was a lot of gold? Seems pitiful now!

Players, including gold makers, were worried that because glyphs were becoming permanent, no one would want to buy them ever again. So on the day of the change, every player went to the auction house and bought the glyphs they needed.  What we didn’t see coming was post-Cataclysm, and into Mists of Pandaria, glyphs became a huge, fast moving commodity.  Players routinely spent hours milling, crafting, and posting 4 of every glyph on the market.  And there were a lot of glyphs.

Making Glyphs was hard work

Here’s all the steps that I used to do!

So hard, that I wrote 5 part guides on how to do it step by step with TSM3

Legion Changes

Vantus runes were invented, and players with scribe alts were worried that they couldn’t get the inscription quests done. Yet more worries.

Battle for Azeroth Inscription

In Battle for Azeroth, your inscription max is now 150, and you learn either Zandalari Inscription or Kul Tiran Inscription

We have three inks, books, scrolls of unlocking (lockpicks!?), contracts for increased reputation gain, vantus runes, cards and off hands.

Battle for Azeroth Inscription

Inscription is currently a mess, and keeps changing every expansion.

Stop giving Inscription all the little bits and pieces leftover that no other profession wants!

Inscription Appearances Glyphs

Inscription used to deal with spells, abilities that you used to buy from your class trainer, but which were removed from the game.

Now, Inscription is more concerned with appearances.  Here’s the latest glyphs added to inscription in Battle for Azeroth:

  1. [Glyph of the Dolphin] Your Aquatic Form now appears as a Dolphin.
  2. [Glyph of the Humble Flyer] Your Swift Flight Travel Form appears as your more humble racial flyer.
  3. [Glyph of the Tideskipper] Your Aquatic Form now appears as a Tideskipper Dolphin.

The Gold Queen’s Suggestions for Changing Inscription

1: Rework Inscription to Dye Master.

2: Dye Masters create

  • Glamours.  Glyphs that change your appearance, example the mage tower challenge, the current minor glyphs
  • Dyes for your armor
  • Tattoo and Scar dyes

Ink Masters in World of Warcraft 9.1

Amor Dyes

I’m told that changing the code for all the old armor would be painstaking.  However, could new armor be crafted with a placeholder for colours 1-6? And instead of doing all the armor, what about just the cloak? This would take it from being

[A Cloak]

to [Long Cloak with Colour 4] or [Medium Cloak with Colour 1] or [Short Cloak with Colour 6]

I Am My Scars

If there was anything we learned during Legion it’s that World of Warcraft players love individual appearances and vanity changes to their characters that show how special they are.

Point 1:

Mage Tower Challenges

Point 2:

Allied Races

Arguably the reason for the spike in sales of pre-order Battle for Azeroth in patch 7.3.5

Oh, and players love scars.

Tattoos and Scars for Everyone

Dye Masters would produce tattoo and scar dyes.

Tattoos would be individual changes, and could work almost like a semi-translucent ‘shirt’ that you change at the barber’s chair.  You remember the barber? That totally empty and unused place?  It should be used.  I would install a tattooist in there also!

Tumbleweed

Tattoos and Scars would be linked to achievements.  Killed Deathwing?  Earn the ability to add a [Deathwing’s Claw] scar to your chest.

Only one scar at a time, so players would choose their most prestigious achievement, or maybe one that matches their transmog, or their roleplay, or anything! That’s the point, its individual choices.

Just killed G’hoon, final boss in Uldir? You should walk away looking like you’ve been beat upon!

Marked by Deathwing

Warcraft Items Removed from Darnassus in Battle for Azeroth

Spoiler warning.

The storyline will not be discussed here, but in the early moments of Battle for Azeroth, the Horde attack and destroy Teldrassil and Darnassus.

Once Darnassus is gone, the items available for sale here will also be gone.

Can you still get these items?

Yes. But it’s not easy.

Fly down to Zidormi in Darkshore, and ask her to change the landscape back to pre-burning.

You talk to the dragon and the old area is revealed, allowing you to access the old vendors and mobs.

But not every player is aware of this, and not every buyer who wants these items are going to take the time to go and pick up the patterns.

That’s your job: providing a useful service.

Which Items Are Going?

These items are from Alliance vendors.

From Layna Karner, Blacksmithing Supplies

  • [Plans: Hardened Iron Shortsword] Buy 30s, sell 250g

From Ulthir, Alchemy Supplies

  • [Recipe: Free Action Potion] Buy 18s, sell 1000g
  • [Recipe: Great Rage Potion] Buy 20s, sell 1000g

  • [Formula: Enchant Bracer – Dodge] buy 58s, sell 550g

  • [Pattern: Green Whelp Bracers] buy 28s, sell 650g
  • [Pattern: Barbaric Bracers] buy 20s, sell 700g

From Elynna, Tailoring Supplies

  • [Pattern: Blue Linen Robe] buy 3s, sell 300g
  • [Pattern: Orange Martial Shirt] buy 30s, sell 680g

From Shylenai, Owl Trainer

  • Hawk Owl buy 50s, sell 450g.  Add another 1,000g+ for level 25
  • Great Horned Owl buy 50s, sell 130g.  Add another 1000g+ for level 25

Darnassus Vendor Run

Total cost 3g 33s

Total revenue 6,310g

Total Profit 6300g

There are three other vendors in Teldrassil who sell patterns and items that you can sell on the Auction House, but none of the items are unique, and can be bought elsewhere.

We will lose Draelan in the Oracle Glade, Nessa Shadowsong in Rutheran Village, and Nyoma in Dolanaar.

Why You Will Be Fishing All Day in Battle for Azeroth

Fish are gold in Battle for Azeroth

Whenever you have ten minutes of ‘down time’ in BfA, you will be fishing

Vendor Fish

The Burning Crusade Warcraft Veterans will remember this fish:

images from wowhead

Good News, expensive vendor fish are back! 50g each this time.

U’taka are fished from schools that spawn near Dazar’alor

Rasboralus look as if they spawn from similar schools in Proudmoore Keep, Boralus.

Battle for Azeroth Fish in Cooking

Right now on the BfA Beta, Cooking is behaving oddly.

In order to cook low level food, you need fish in two ways

  1. Fish in raw fished up form as straight cooking mats
  2. Aromatic Fish Oil, created by using a fish.
Great Sea Catfish

Great Sea Catfish. Use to create oil.

Aromatic Fish Oil, cooking ingredient

Grilled Catfish requires raw Great Sea Catfish

Grilled Catfish requires raw Great Sea Catfish

Aromatic Fish Oil, Sugar, and Honey!?

How Cooking Affects BfA Fishing

With fish being required in double amounts, once for fish flesh, and once for fish oil, fish will be in double demand.

Gold Makers know what happens to the price of an item when the demand doubles.

Here comes the tweetable!

Fish prices to soar in Battle for Azeroth? I'm prepping already. Click To Tweet

Battle for Azeroth Fishing, the Early Days

That said, I do have some advice for you in your first few Battle for Azeroth days:

Save your [Frenied Fangtooth] for later in the game, and the raiding [Bountiful Captain’s Feast] food.

Fish your [Lane Snapper] up immediately and use them to cook [Spiced Snapper] to level up your cooking.

Underlight Angler

Game Director Ion Hazzikostas said in the Developer Q&A last November

“The current plans is to carry The Underlight Angler forward but we’ll see how it unfolds.”

[Editor: a folding Underlight Angler!?]

Fisherfriend News

Wowhead has advice for you on Fisherfriend of the Isles

Similarly, Fisherfriend of the Isles is much easier to do in a group since with enough people the rate of acquiring special items (that last for 2 minutes) increases dramatically. Doing this achievement after Legion will be hard since interested people will likely be focused on current content. Completing this achievement unlocks the hidden appearance for your Underlight Angler, with Underlight Emerald. Completing each step of the achievement, which requires you to reach Exalted with each Fisherfriend, allows you to purchase special toy lures and pets. More details in the Legion Fishing Guide.

Question for You

Are you going to be maxing out your Underlight Angler before Battle for Azeroth?

Wowtoken Prices are Rocketing out of Control, and the Veterans are Leaving

Today I will answer “why is the wowtoken price rising?”

World of Warcraft Gold Makers are Supporting 9 Games

We are working hard to gather and to make high value items, but it’s not enough.

The wowtoken price is rising. Why?

Usually I can afford a wowtoken but I can’t afford it with dollars.  There is a hard grind to get the gold. I can’t do that if I have a full time job. I don’t have time to do that! People are scared to take risks with flipping, spending gold to buy low, sell high, because if it doesn’t sell then we simply don’t get our wowtoken! You have two choices to afford subscription: spend all your time making gold, or work hard, and buy a wowtoken.  The bots are winning.  – CorSolider

A lot of people are taking their gold, converting it into a wowtoken, and buying the other games. I’m hearing complaints from:

Casual players who can’t afford it

Hard core gold makers who are exhausted

Heavy transmog farmers who have given up

Casual gold farmers who have left

What Happens to Gold?

Here’s the cycle:

You log on to Warcraft.  You take 6 hours to gather some items.  You put the items on the Auction House.  The items sell, you take your gold, you see that it’s enough to buy a wowtoken *or* to buy something from one of the other 8 games supported by Battle.net. You get another game. You log out. You never come back. The gold is gone from the warcraft economy.

Why is the Wowtoken Price So High?

The wowtoken was meant to be an alternative to buying Chinese botted gold. Instead of buying gold, you bought a wowtoken.

But now, bots are farming items, posting them on the Auction House, and taking the gold out of warcraft. It’s gone. Farewell.

How Do You Take Gold Out of Warcraft Economy?

Simple: You gather items, you put the on the AH, you sell items, you buy a wowtoken, you convert it to Battlenet currency, and you buy things outside of WoW. The value of those farmed items is gone.

You buy Hearthstone Packs

You buy Overwatch Loot Boxes

You buy Heroes of the Storm skins

You buy Destiny 2

You buy Call of Duty Black Ops 4

You buy, you buy, you buy.  The gold is gone. To create the same amount of in-game value, you must work harder, sell more items, farm more items, post more items on the AH, and ultimately, no one will keep up.

Only automation, bots, will keep up.

Warcraft gold is becoming wowtokens, battle net balance, and leaving the Warcraft Economy.

You are working your butt off, and what you get back is becoming smaller and smaller.

Do you remember when you could work for a day or two, sell the items, and buy your wowtoken?

You can’t do that anymore unless you are an automated bot or you are a duper, or you know my Warcraft Secret Guides.

Prices are rising. Nothing will bring it down.

Inflation is Fine.

Ok, it’s fine that gold makers are leaving the community, you think. It’s ok that bots are taking over.  It’s ok that prices are going up.  I’m not a gold maker, you think. I’m not a bot. I just want to play my game.  I pay for Warcraft with $$ not with gold, it doesn’t impact me.

And then you go the Auction House. To buy a simple raid flask.

And the price is ten times what you expect.

Now how do you feel?

Let me Illustrate How The Wowtoken Works

Here’s your gold

and here’s battle net

We have no problem with gold being sucked out of the Warcraft Economy, if value is also being pumped back in.

It is not.

This is Warcraft Right Now

We are spinning plates, holding up 9 games with our work.  None of those games gives you the ability to create Battle.net balance and to give it back to Warcraft. The economy is only flowing one way. From warcraft, to battlenet balance, to other games.  It does not flow the other way.

The Wowtoken Price Affects Wow Economy

Imagine if your work salary was paid in Dollars. And only dollars. No English Pounds, no Euros, no anything else.

You could convert your dollars to any the currencies. You must pay your rent in dollars. Then, being a multicultural type, you could buy books with English Pounds. You could buy food with Euros.  You could buy computer parts with Yen. But you could never get your Dollars again.  You bought a new computer, and some food. How do you afford rent? What happens to the price of Dollars?  It’s impossible to make more unless you work. Again. Harder. Work. Harder. More.

Diablo does NOT generate Battle.Net Balance.
Hearthstone does NOT generate Battle.Net Balance.
Starcraft does NOT generate Battle.Net Balance.
HotS does NOT generate Battle.Net Balance.
Overwatch does NOT generate Battle.Net Balance.
Destiny 2 does NOT generate Battle.Net Balance.
CoD does NOT generate Battle.Net Balance.

You cannot get your “Dollars” back.

Every time you buy something with Battlenet Balance (ie with wow gold), you are influencing the WoW economy.

Is This a Gold Sink?

Yes, kinda, it’s a gold sink because the gold exits the economy. But there is no mount, no cosmetic, no game service, no game time. You have to pay for it with your IRL gold.

The balance is broken.

When people use gold sinks in WoW, they keep playing the game. Thus generating gold back into the economy.  When people use sinks in other games, they siphon off gold and give nothing in return. Nothing goes back into Warcraft.

How do you get any new currency in Warcraft? You go out and you farm. Some more. And then some more.

Destinity 2 is out? WoW’s economy takes a hit.

Call of Duty is out? WoW’s economy takes a hit.

By creating demand you are generating inflation.

Is there anything wrong with inflation?

Gold Makers know that wowtoken will rise, slowly, over time, keeping match with Warcraft inflation. That’s ok because we can make more gold! Gold Makers love inflation, we love when we can get more gold for our items in the Auction House.  We love when we can work for n hours and earn enough for a month’s subscription.  How are we going to feel, though, when we must work for 2n or 3n hours for the same effect?  Are we.. wait.. are YOU going to want to do all that extra hours of work?  Should you have to?

Just because CoD is out?

I just want CoD off my Battle Net Launcher

That’s the cry I hear from my followers.  You don’t realise the damage the wowtoken/battlenet drain will have on the warcraft community.

That prices will rise.

That you will need to work harder, longer, farm more, to make the same profit.

Inflation is OK, but Not Like This

When inflation rises in Warcraft, its good, it means the economy is healthy.

When value (wowtoken, battle net balance) exits the economy in huge numbers and is never seen again, then everyone, every single Warcraft player, must pay the price of the new level for gold value. Flasks go up. Gems go up. Enchants go up. Everything goes up. So our income must go up, we have to work harder at our mission tables, we have to work harder farming, we have to craft better, we have to do more. And all the time, the currency is going up. Inflation is going up.

I’m talking to Warcraft veterans who cannot do it anymore.  Who can only farm 8 hours a day. Who are exhausted and can not compete with bots and dupers. 9 hours a day is too much. 10 hours? no.  16 hours? Why? That’s not fair!

You have three choices

Work harder than the bots.

You can stop goldmaking, and instead purchase wowtokens with IRL gold (£, $.. )

You can leave Warcraft for something that is less work

Too many veterans are taking the last choice. That’s super sad.

Don’t make us uphold 9 games any longer.  Make it fair.

TSM4 Sniper Guide part 3 of 3

This is part 3 of a series.

Part 1: What is sniping, and how to do the basics.

Part 2: How to sniper-bait and make gold from the snipers.

Part 3: How to Snipe Better

How to Snipe Better

In part 2 I showed you a way to bait snipers into buying vendor items for 2-300%.

TSM Sniper sees the items posted at lower than market value and recommends the items to be bought.

Sniper bait mostly targets AH bots and nubs who have cut n paste TSM strings without looking to understand what they are doing.

If you don’t want to get caught out by these sort of sneaky tactics, you need to set up your TSM sniper with an even better string!

Blindraptor on Reddit posted this new string.

Keep your minprice custom price the same, and change your sniper string

from

check(minprice - 100000g, 90% minprice, check(minprice - 50000g, 80% minprice, check(minprice - 10000g, 60% minprice, check(minprice - 5000g, 50% minprice, check(minprice - 1000g, 30% minprice, check(minprice - 500g, 20% minprice, check(minprice - 50g, 10% minprice)))))))

to

first(check(minprice - VendorBuy, VendorBuy),check(minprice - 100000g, 90% minprice, check(minprice - 50000g, 80% minprice, check(minprice - 10000g, 60% minprice, check(minprice - 5000g, 50% minprice, check(minprice - 1000g, 30% minprice, check(minprice - 500g, 20% minprice, check(minprice - 50g, 10% minprice))))))))

Blindraptor says

The problem I was having is that my sniper was bringing up a lot of vendor purchased items. These items would have a listed market value high enough to trigger my sniper string when they were posted at more reasonable prices. One common example is the dragonhawk hatchlings. People posting them for 10g would trigger sniper, even though they cost 50s from the vendor.

Selling vendor items to bait snipers? Who would do such a thing. Not us *wink wink*

TSM4 Bid Sniper

Before we finish with the topic of TSM4 Sniper setup, lets look at the new function for TSM4.

Bid Sniper works like Buyout Sniper, in that it has a default setting and can work right out the box.  Your Sniper operation will work for Bid Sniping too, so you don’t need a separate string.

Because who wants to pay 100% of an auction price when you can bid on the auction and get it cheaper!

Start up TSM Bid Sniper the same way you start TSM Buyout Sniper
