We Have a Robin Hood
“Hello Gold Queen! I have a question.
“On my server, I’m selling glyphs. A few weeks ago, sellings glyphs was no problem. Then I started getting some serious competetion.
“We made a ‘group’ (a ‘pact’ if you will) to help eachother and try to keep the glyph market in our hands. It went amazingly well. We bought out some low sellers, we bought eachother out (and refunded G) and we made a nice profit. All of us. Until this week….
“There is 1 guy who is posting Glyphs for WAY to0 low prices (sometimes under crafting costs), just to crash the market. His response: you guys sell for way too much, I don’t like people making money of other people’s backs..
“I tried to explain him that he could also make money, if he upped his buyouts and that markets would stabilize soon enough without him. But he made it his lifegoal to get the glyph market down, because he feels it should be. As it turned out, he is a horde player, playing the AH on Alliance side… So he has no affection and care. Besides that, he feels like a Knight in shining armor, like Robin Hood, to help the poor. He already made 100k, he told me, so… he doesn’t need money. And he doesn’t care, other need money…..
“What can we do with this kind of behaviour? Any tips or something?
“Hope to hear from you!
Frustrated Scribe”
We Have a Robbing Hood
Hi Frustrated Scribe,
I’m so sorry to hear about your problems with this fake Robin Hood. I call him fake outright to his face, because Robin Hood never made 100,000g by selling things cheap to poor people.
He doesn’t give a crap about the wallets of the buyers. He doesn’t give a crap about the wallets of his competitors. So you’re going to have to show him who’s boss. In a nice way.
You can:
- Run him out of town
- Talk to him nicely (tried that, didn’t work!)
- Bore him to death
- Leave him to it
Number one is easy, you undercut him, hard, constantly, deep undercut him in return, and use your cartel to wall him out of the market. Glyphs cost 8g to make? Then you sell them *ALL* for 8g 01s. No one will profit here, except the customer. The goal here is to show him that you have muscle, your cartel, and you won’t take any crap, and he can either join in, or get lost.
Number two, you’ve tried, and given up.
How about a combination of numbers 3 and 4? Keep undercutting him, use TSM to automate your work to minimize your own boredom levels, and babysit your glyphs. Make a cartel-wide pact to always undercut him and bore him out the market.
Number four means expanding into other markets, which I hope you do anyway!
Over To You
I want to throw this question open to the intelligent Gold Making Community of which we are a part, and ask their help, support, and opinions for your problem.

Nesingwary’s Camp of Ultimate Looting and Gold Grabbin’
Happy hours were spent today running up and down the ravine next to Nesingwary’s Camp in Pandaria.
Hemet Nesingwary says: Take that, beastie!
This is a fantastic zone to farm, and doubly so if you have any of the gathering professions. I found:
- Sha Leather
- Exotic Leather
- Pristine Scales
- Tiger Steak
- Green Tea Leaf – herb
- Ghost Iron Ore – metal
The spawn rate is awesome, and if you have a skinner, herbalist or miner, just fly or mount/run around and pick up the leftovers.
Mobs
- Gorge Stalker – green stripey tiger
- Mushan – Pan-faced Kodo-ish-beastie
- Mountain Yak – on the sides of the hills up towards the wall.
Hemet Nesingwary says: I’ve got a present for ye! Here, let me just get it out of my gun…
Nesingwary
Hemet Nesingwary previously camped out in Stranglethorn Vale, then Nagrand, and Sholazar Basin.
He makes a brief appearance in Mount Hyjal as one of your assistants on the pre-Firelands quests. Protectors of Hyjal

Near to the Camp
If you get bored of any of the area, head north for slaughter (foxes! mushan! more mushan!), more ore, more herbs and more exotic leather. Ghost Iron Ore is exceptionally plentiful on the Beta, expect it to be nerfed to normal spawn rate for live release of Mists of Pandaria (25 September 2012, dont forget).
Nesingwary’s camp is at the far southwest of Valley of the Four Winds. The bottom of the ravine links to Krasarang Wilds.
Gorge Stalkers
- These tigers pack a punch if you stand and allow them to cast ‘Tense Rake. With a 2s cast time, you should be able to run out the way. At level 90, the 30k hit won’t be so bad.
- Also note, the ones lying down aren’t necessary dead, these tigers get pretty sleepy!
- Not all of them drop tiger steak, this isn’t the best place for tiger steak drops. For that you want Jade Forest level 90 tigers.

Newman’s Landing
Once empty, in 2008 Newman’s Landing welcomed a retired goblin ‘admiral’ who fishes off the pier.
He has the limited supply plans: Solid Iron Maul.
These plans are only available from 3 vendors in Azeroth.
Buy for 30s, sell for 50g.
It’s rather exciting discovering NPCs like this hidden around the world. I really enjoy discovering every part of World of Warcraft. I love the easter eggs like the Tauren Village near Ahn Quiraj, and the Vendor in Dalaran sewers. It’s even better when they have limited supply items to sell.

How to Start Again
Yesterday I showed you how to choose who to give your gold to. Once its gone, its time to start again. Starting from scratch is exhilarating and exciting but can be really scary and intimidating. You have a lot of concerns to juggle, and once the Mists of Pandaria clear on September 25th, you will have no choice but to join the race with all the other server players in making the most gold as possible.
Where to Bloody Start?
My Featured Article “Just Started Making Gold” is a summary of how to start making gold. However, re-starters have advantages and disadvantages over new starters. Old Data Get rid. Seriously, just take a deep breath and delete your data. Clear your Auctioneer, Auctionator, and TSM settings with one painful DELETE button. If you have snatch lists, you might want to take a screenshot before you delete them, just in case you want them back again. Don’t let old prices, and old selling styles influence you in a negative way. You can do it. Old Habits Refine. You’ve learned how to make habits. You’ve turned your chores into a set of quickly executed routes, so you can do that again with the new routes, new dailies, new farmable items, new favourite spawn points. Brand new players won’t have that advantage. Burn! Let me summarise my article on starting from new:
- Start where you are. Do what you know. Bloom where you’re planted.
- Professions. Make sure your professions are maxed, and not wasted.
- Until 90, gather. If you don’t have any useful patterns or recipes in your professions yet, consider taking up the gathering professions: Fishing, Skinning, Mining, and Herbalism.
- Do what you love. No point farming boring places, or mindlessly pressing “prospect” or “mill” macros if it reduces your enjoyment of the game. Do what you love, and love what you do.
- Quests Mists of Pandaria destroys the limit on how many daily quests you can do. Take advantage, and learn whilst you quest.
The Easy Way to Start from Scratch
Get Yourself a Guide We call it “standing on the shoulders of giants”. In other words, using others experience and wisdom to give you a head start. Lately I have been loving 20k Leveling and Massive Gold Blueprint a lot less than the new gold guide The Journal of Marcus Ty. Maybe it’s the arty side of me that particularly loves the design of the guide. If you’ve never heard of it, have a quick look, you might like it.
You Don’t Need a Guide
I’ve always said that I will provide 80% of my information for free, right here on the blog. Start here. Read through the blogroll to discover my recommended gold experts. You’ve taken a courageous step in starting again. I’m proud of you.

How to Give Away Your Gold
Yesterday I introduced the challenge of starting Mists of Pandaria with no gold.
You could selfishly fill your pockets with vanity items like I did.
Or you could give the gold back to the community, the players.
Who deserves your gold? It’s painful to imagine your money thrown away by stupid players or deleted with deleted characters or used by competitors to make your sales more difficult. Especially when it took a considerable effort to raise the gold in the first place.
Who to donate to
Your Guild
They’ve been there for you since the start, you’ve fought together, argued together, quested, dungeoned together. Heck there was one night you even… ok we won’t go there, NSFW. Surely a chunk of gold in the guild bank would thrill them no end. Free repairs for one last try on a heroic boss, thanks to you?
Your Friends
More than your guild, these go-to-guys have given you more than enough hugs or slaps on the backs in the hard times. And they’re hilarious to watch when they lag out, whilst stood in the fire.
The Wise
Imagine the pain of giving your gold away, only to find it was spent on a very expensive vendor item you could get for 1g. A few friendly questions can help you discover if they have an ounce of gold-sense.
- Do you know where I can find the Moongraze Tenderloin recipe?
- Have you got any farming characters?
- Can you spare five minutes to help me learn TSM?
The Determined
Its not always a good idea to lurk in Goldshire, pockets full of gold, ready to spring this burden on any brand new player.
The Inspiring
I’d consider giving my gold to the best character of my class on my server, class leader in the top raiding guild. He or she will have been an inspiration to you, and a moving target at which you can aim.
It’s also a lovely feeling to know that when they are getting their achievements, and inspiring other players, that you played a small part in that.
Do an ‘asshole test’ on them first though. You don’t want to give it away to a nasty piece of work, and some of them are very egocentric.
On the other hand, hey, you might make a friend and learn some tips.
Your Competitors
Don’t laugh! It’s happened to me, when competitors have given up the game. Kinda linked in with “the wise” really. You know your gold will be put to good use.
Who else would you give your gold away to?

Start with Zero Gold
Why start with No Gold?
One idea for a brand new expansion is to start with zero gold.
After crushing it in The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King, I challenged myself to start from near zero in Cataclysm.
To be completely honest, its party my own fault for purposefully buying myself a host of vanity items, rewards in a way. And so I started Cata with 20-40k and the fear of god in me that I had disadvantaged myself.
I couldn’t afford the super expensive first days worth of farmed mats, and my own gatherers were alts far down my list of priorities. So players with crafting professions had a head start on me, which sucked. But I did have something they didn’t. A bad case of serious English Stubbornness.
The Challenge for you?
If you think this challenge is for you, read back tomorrow on the ideas for giving your gold back to the other players.
