Great Gold Makers and Auctioneers on World of Warcraft
We all have some certain things in common
We hate spending
We hoard
We like to do many things at the same time. Auctioning *and* farming *and* streaming? yes please
We hate leaving things on the ground. We get irritated when we fly past a herb or mine node and aren’t on the right gathering character.
We never sit around in the cities just having a chat. Time is money, friend.
We have a piggy bank character that keeps hold of our gold so we don’t spend it.

Burning Crusade Epic Gems for Profit
Why buy the old gems?
6.1 brought new battle pets into Sunwell Plateau, Black Temple and Hyjal Summit (raid not zone).
A new raid collection achievement was added to encourage pet collecting in TBC raids.
As experienced gold makers know, more people in old raids means more cheap greens in the Auction House, and more gems being “thrown away” into the AH.

A Jewelcrafter with patterns to cut the gems can get a significant mark up by cutting these gems for level 70 twinks on larger servers.
Check your realm to see if it is worth your time to get into this forgotten market.
How to sell Burning Crusade Epic Gems in 2015
These crafted gems will sell slowly, not often, but will make a large mark up when they do. You can keep them uncut in your bank, and advertise your cutting ability in trade chat.
Or you can cut 1 of each type and put them on AH. Be prepared to repost, and think of your single item on the AH as an advertisement. Players might buy your gem then come to you asking “can you make some more?” This would save you auction house relisting fees.
Consider epic gems as part of your long tail. What is a long tail?

Bid on the WoW Auction House
Server Maintenance is once a week, 03:00 early Wednesday morning in the EU, and 3am PST early Tuesday morning for North American servers.
Why Bid?
Bids are almost a leftover from the days when the Auction House times were 30m, 2h and 6h (or is my memory failing me? I’m getting old!) and bidding was encouraged on items, rather than buyouts.
Players would often engage in bidding wars, similar to eBay, with only a short period of time in which to make increasing bids for a wanted item.
Now that the auction times are longer, the majority of items are sold with Buyout prices, and items posted with Auction House Addons are around 95% bid price. But you can find much lower bids offered by players who don’t use addons.
Bidding before servers go down means that the servers are down when the item expires, and because no one is online and able to Buyout the item, you are likely to be successful with your bid.
Which items to bid on in the World of Warcraft AH
There are a variety of places to find out which are the best deals on your auction house. My favourite is WoWuction.com – I’m biased because I wrote the guide for them, and proud of it. Also you can check out the Trade Skill Master website.
Alternatively, you should have already created several Snatch Lists. These are shopping lists you can find on the internet with your google-fu, to use with either TSM or with Auctionator. I have a preference for buying with Auctionator snatch lists.
Shout out to Olivia Grace with gratitude for the retweet.
What will you get?
You can find items for sale at much reduced prices that can be flipped (buy low, sell high) for many many times their bid prices.
You may also find some patterns, and some old content items that have been dumped by less skilled players.
Example:
- Battleforged Girdle.
- Market Value 234g.
- Price for buyout 50g.
- Price for Bid: ONLY 2g.
Bid low, sell high.
I admit that I rarely remember to put a pre-maintenance bidding spree on the AH. So I’m feeling a little smug that I remembered. If you remember in time, you too can get these super cheap items to add to your sales inventory. If you do remember, can you come by Twitter and remind me?
Good luck, and let me know how you get on!

Are you serious about making gold?
Then this is what you need to do
1. Never sit around in the cities doing nothing.
2. Always pass your gold to a piggy bank so you don’t spend it
3. Keep your reputation clean, no scamming, no botting, no asshattery in trade chat.
4. Do your garrisons every day – all the small buildings, all the medium, the herbs and ore mine.
5. Max your professions and get them working together, for example your enchanting alt disenchants armor crafted by your tailor.
6. Craft everything valuable and get it on the AH in great volume using TSM.
7. Run old raids, at the moment the Cataclysm raids are profitable and not yet nerfed.
8. Remember old things that others have forgotten. Like the motes of harmony from your Pandarian farm. Like Blackrock Depths. Sell stuff from vendor NPCs #CopperRodSquad
9. Farm for transmogs to sell if you have spare time – ZF, AQ20, Blasted Lands my current favourites.
10. Don’t undercut your competitors unless you have no choice. Try and list for the price you want to sell, instead.
11. Check Wowuction website for bargains. There’s a video guide to Wowuction. I made it.
12. Start researching small markets for niches that you can squeeze into. If something sells, take notice and try and repeat it.
13. Hate doing something? Then so do all your competitors. So that’s why you can profit from it. You can do it for 15 minutes a day then reward yourself afterwards.
Of course, all this takes great organization skills, that’s why I wrote the Daily Gold Cheat Sheet for you to keep track of it all. You can get it for free when you sign up to receive the blog posts by email.

What is the Copper Rod Squad
A group of world of warcraft players who laugh with each other about selling vendor-bought items at higher prices on the WoW Auction house.
This is known as flipping, or buy low sell high.
When you buy from a vendor, it’s buy extremely low, sell high enough to have a laugh.
It’s enough to make you a few gold, hundreds rather than thousands unless you’re determined to make a career out of it.
[box type=”info”] It’s a great way to start off making gold if you are either a new player or created a new character on a new server/realm. [/box]

How to join the Copper Rod Squad
You can join too. Search for #CopperRodSquad on twitter to see our latest laughs.
[box type=”bio”] I’m @thegoldqueen on twitter[/box]
We’ve sold:
Copper Rods, Coal, Salt, Parchment, Dyes, Salt, Wooden Stock, Fishing Poles, Mining Pick, Dust of Disappearance, Jeweler’s Kit, Strong and Weak Flux, Blacksmith Hammer and more
Cryan, one of the guys involved in Trade Skill Master, kindly offered me his list of vendor saleables, but honestly, most things will sell at some point. Just have fun with it.
Grab some vendor items, post them on AH, and let me know what sells.

How to Post Your Junk Greens from Salvage Yard on the Auction House (without tearing your hair out)
Following on from the last blog post, you almost certainly discovered an enormous pile of potential sellers from your garrison Salvage Crates, and from picking up loot in the world and in dungeons as you level your alt/s.
The first step to the proper Care and Feeding of your greenies, is to select an alt with big bags to look after them all. Get into the habit of mailing your greenies to this character. Collect them all together so they can be dealt with.
Here, they can be put on the Auction House nice and carefully, one at a time, or you can do what I do which is use TSM to post them all.
Create a new group in Trade Skill Master, and call it “greenies”
Then under the Items sub tab, left click once on each of the greenies to highlight the item and then click Add >>> to add them to the group.
Make sure not to accidentally add mogging items that should already be on your transmogrification snatch list
Every time you send your ‘greenies’ to your greenies auction character, you can do this to fill up your greenies group / list of items. As you can see, my ‘greenies’ list also includes some greys that I wanted to put on the AH instead of simply vendor.
Then create an Operation, which is simply an action to be applied to the group. The action/operation we want is Auctioning.
Give the new Operation a name. You can call it Big Dog Balls for all I care, as long as you can identify it as “the operation that sells all the trash to the AH”.
Apply the operation to the group “greenies”.
Go to the Post sub tab.
Set the quantities as:
- Duration: 48 hours.
- Post cap: [ pick a number between 1 and 10, depending on whether you’re happy to flood the market. I chose 6, but I can change it, as the market changes. ]
- Stack Size 1.
- Keep Quantity 0
Now comes the magic part:
[learn_more caption=”depreciated content”] Set the minimum and maximums as percentages of DBMarket. TSM uses DBMarket as:
DBMarket (AuctionDB – Market Value)
The settings I’m using at the moment are:
Min Price: 80% DBMarket
Max Price: 150% DBMarket
Normal Price: 95% DBMarket
I’m not too bothered by what percentage of the market price the item eventually sells at, because I already checked that it was over the Vendor price. If you’re worried about spending too much on the deposit you can add +deposit to the settings.
Some other options for your pricing can be found at TSM website, for example you might want to choose DBGlobalSaleAvg instead.

UPDATE Summer 2015
I changed my Auctioning Post settings in order to take into consideration
- other players who post items for near to vendor price
- don’t want to post for less than 120% the value of dust/shards if you were to disenchant (TSM calls this destroy) the item
- don’t want top post for less than 150% of the amount I paid for it, or the max I paid for it (maxBuy) if I have earlier bought/snatched/sniped the item
- dont want to post for less than 150% of the cost of the mats if it was crafted (matPrice)
Minimum Price:
max (90% DBGlobalSaleAvg, 130% vendorsell, 120% Destroy, 150% maxBuy, 150% matPrice)
Maximum Price:
max (150%((DBGlobalMarketAvg + DBRegionHistorical)/2), 1000% vendorsell)
Normal Price:
130% DBGlobalSaleAvg
Note: it’s considered impolite to ask other players for their TSM auctioning post settings, please only take them when they’re offered freely like here.
Add these in Operations, Auctioning, sell_greenies group (or whatever you have called the group), Post tab
Auctioning your Items
At the Auction House, click the Auctioning Tab, make sure that the greenies Group is selected, then click Start Post Scan
On the next page, the page should fill with the ‘greenies’ in your bags that are ready to be sold. If not, go back and check the previous steps.
If you have already set your mouse scroll wheel to post to AH super quick, go ahead and do that now. Otherwise, click Post button for each item, post them all, and then go learn how to bind your selling button to your mouse wheel.

If you see this sort of error
it means that you should probably disenchant the item. Check the item itself by mousing over it for more info
Summary
You now have a way to quickly get your greenie items up on AH instead of having to vendor them, and they should bring you in a few thousand gold every day. These can sit on the AH for 48 hours happily waiting to be bought, while you get on with the business of making the big gold on your main.
This is a very lazy way of making gold, because it depends on letting other people (ie the ‘DBMarket’) setting the value of the item for you. I wouldn’t use this method for big price items, for mogging, or for crafted items. However it is perfect for getting rid of greens that you would otherwise vendor.
Let me know how much gold you make?
