Gold Queen Trivia Time!
Hello Warcraft Players
My real name is Alyzande, you can call me Sandy.
I’ve been writing TGQ since 2010 and realised that most of you don’t know much about me.
I got the name “The Gold Queen” after a funny conversation with my youngest son. Earlier in the day, I had discovered that the economy on Silvermoon EU(A) on that day was worth 16 million gold and that I owned 4 million gold worth of the auctions. I was explaining to him what I had been doing that day and he said “omg, you’re like the Queen of Gold, mummy!” And I loved that name and took it for my gold blog. That was over five years ago now!
When people hear I am “The Gold Queen” sometimes they think I am extremely arrogant, and fail to grasp the subtle humour in the name.
I have two children, both boys, and split up from their father many years ago. He was a hunter. A hunter with terrible dps. You understand, right?
I never thought I’d own a spectral tiger. Before account-wide mounts, these babies were rare as hen’s teeth. I once bid on a Spectral Tiger and while I was nervously looking at the “confirm bid” button, someone else bought it out from under my nose!
I RP. I enjoy roleplay and look at it as acting. Acting without any pay, and without any script. It can be incredibly fun, especially if you RP extreme characters. My two most fun characters were a brainless sexist paladin who was rolling in money. He used to pat the backsides of ladies without permission and then run around screaming about “LESBEANS!” when the lady, quite rightly, was not amused by this. The other fun character was a dimwitted, hot tempered scarlet crusade missionary, back in Vanilla. She once knocked herself unconscious banging her head against the wall throwing a tantrum in the Cathedral. So very silly.
I swear like a champ irl, but try and keep it clean on the blog. I have a very wide vocabulary, being a voracious reader, and like to use lots of words, including the rude ones. Sometimes the rude ones are the best ones for the situation.
I’m 42. Yeah, you read that right. I’m careful about which photos are allowed on the internet. I started playing when I was 32 and playing computer games with 20-somethings seemed ok. Now I’m 42 trying to tell 16 year olds to stop chuckling about rape in trade chat. Yeah, things have changed.
I studied Business and Management at uni in Oxford. The course was not as much fun as being a university student in a busy student town. mmm, dem memories.
If I’m out on the town, I’ll drink pints of cider, but if I’m at home, it’s spirits and mixers for me. Usually a bourbon and pepsi.
My main character is a feral druid, and it was the same character I rolled back in 2005 when I started playing Warcraft on Bronzebeard EU. I once led the largest guild on Bronzebeard. Shoutout to <The Pie Club>.
I’ve had a stalker who discovered me on WoW. He decided that because I was 1) female and 2) in Goldshire on a RP server, that I was up for some ERP (cyber sex) and when I said no thank you, a certain someone got pissy and decided to follow me around in game, discover my personal info and share it with others, DDOS me and attempt to hack my linkedin, twitter, facebook, and more. Because I have children, and because it’s just wrong to be a stalker, I went to the police in 2014. Blizzard banned his account since then, but he still follows me on twitch and twitter. He’s only young, and has an absent father, and some mental health issues, so I do not name him or approach him.
I’m pretty sad that my IRL situation (full time 24/7 Carer) and my slowing fine motor skills mean that I’m slipping further and further down the DPS charts, and I’m grateful for the guys who permit me to tag along and fill up their roster/s. In a way, that means I have to focus more and more on Gold Queening. If that’s even a verb?
What drives me, asks Jay on twitter. Strangely, it is not success, it’s not “having the most gold ever”. Because at the end of the day, gold is just gold is just gold. It’s finding new and exciting ways to make gold. Making gold when others could not, finding amazing items to resell, finding new ways to play, and to win. Bending the rules, but never breaking them.
What are my favourite movies? My favourite movie is a very little known musical version of Cinderella. Inside, I’m still a kid who wants to grow up to be a princess.
Which countries would I like to visit? I have come to accept that with my real life situation, that it is difficult enough for me to travel inside my own country, and leaving the country is almost impossible. If I can arrange *good* childcare, then I occasionally fly out to other countries to spend time with other WoW players. My favourite visit was to Sweden, although wow it was cold.
I consider myself generous. I don’t really do giveaways on twitch or twitter, but if I discover that it is someone’s birthday, I may randomly decide to give them a gift. Or I might just give random strangers a bunch of gold because why the hell not.
Now, see, I opened my heart to you on the interwebs. Here are some PHOTOS btw. If you want to get to know me more, and maybe even experience some of that awesome swearing and cursing I told you about, you can come chat to me on twitter @thegoldqueen.
Next blog post: Back to World of Warcraft gold making tips.
The Gold Queen is written by Alyzande. With many level 100s, 9 years expertise in making gold, 11 garrisons, 17k+ achievements, 1593 days played, and over 32 million gold earned. The Gold Queen blog teaches you how to make gold playing World of Warcraft using ethical trading, auction house flipping, crafting, reselling snatch lists, and farming gold making.
Timing is everything.
Your routine is essential. Organising yourself is essential.
Time is money friend, and if you’re not using your most valuable resource to its peak efficiency, then you are robbing yourself of gold, of fun, of free time to adventure, of the rewards of riches, and the pleasure of a job well done.
Here is how I organise my time.
Daily Gold Routine
Morning
Garrisons. All the missions, on all the characters. Then I go back and do all the buildings on all the characters. Yes, even the bloody mine.
Professions. I do the daily cooldowns while I’m doing the small buildings, then I make the flasks, pots, enchants, gems, once I’ve gathered all the mats from across my army of alts.
Only once I’ve sent my garrison followers and ships off to work do I allow myself to “play”. Go do my dailies, Tanaan Jungle, level an alt, play with friends, roleplay, go fishing, listen to a podcast.
About 1am The “professional” farmers finish their work shift on my server. Check for cheap trade mats in AH.
About 2am Time for dailies to reset. Might be a good time to post mats needed for professions or items for quests.
Couple of times a day: scan the auction house for Great Deals. This is part of the TSM3 Premium deal.
Notes on my Self Rewards:
Some things are irritating to do. Boring. Annoying. Time consuming. Yet they make you gold. Perhaps because the other players just don’t have your stamina or determination.
You can create motivation in yourself, by keeping those chores to a block of assigned time, and by instantly rewarding yourself with something enjoyable.
I’m not suggesting that you go fap after each scan of the Auction House. But after 15 minutes of herb farming, it’s time to take a break and indulge in a battleground or make jokes with guild mates.
Weekly Gold Routine
Saturday: repost 5-6000 greenies/transmogs on 48 hours auction so they are available all weekend for casual players, and those leveling alts.
Tuesday night, just before EU Maintenance night (for US, North American realms, that’s Monday night): check for items you can bid on and win cheaper than paying full buyout price.
Sunday afternoon, bored: Farming, or bulk glyph making for the week.
Making a new habit is easier than breaking a bad habit.
Monthly Gold Routine
Once a fortnight: target a competitor on the AH and snipe his whole auction list. (guide coming soon!)
Once a fortnight: do a limited supply item farm
As needed: farm for low level herbs (prefer Zangarmarsh and Scholazar Basin)

Cross Realm Farming – Blasted Lands Blast
1. Recap of the Blasted Lands rares farming route
2. How Cross Realming allows endless farming
1. Recap of the Blasted Lands rares farming route
What? Why?
First discovered, I believe by Faid, shortly after transmog was introduced. I still use her Blasted Lands macro.
It’s a 4 year old farm route, and the plan is to kill rares, mobs with silver dragon portraits, in the hopes they will drop valuable loot.
Ideally you will be selling the transmog loot on the Auction House, and I have a TSM Transmog Shopping and Auctioning Snatch List that you can steal here. It’s a mish mash of several other gold blogger’s lists, refreshed and updated for 2015.
Blasted Lands rares are doubly valuable because not only do you get loot from the rares, but they also drop an imperfect draenethyst fragment or flawless draenethyst sphere. These can be handed in at an NPC later in your farm route for a Kum’isha’s Junk and an Emerald Encrusted Chest respectively. These are bags of more loot for you.
Travel to Blasted Lands
Take a portal from a major city.
- Orgrimmar Cleft of Shadows
- Undercity Magic Quarter
- Thunder Bluff Spirit Rise
- Silvermoon Sunfury Spire
- Stormwind Mage Quarter
- Ironforge Mystic Ward
- Darnassus Temple of the Moon
- The Exodar Vault of Lights
Before you do anything in Blasted Lands
*Talk with the NPC to change Blasted Lands back to Old Blasted Lands*
Zidormi is at the very far north, the entrance to Blasted Lands just south of the Swamp of Sorrows.
/target Zidormi if you can’t find her!
“Show me the Blasted Lands before the invasion”
The invasion she is talking about is the Iron Horde pre-Warlords of Draenor event, and you should ask her to show you the old Blasted Lands.
Farming Blasted Lands Rares
As soon as Blasted Lands is back to it’s old self, then fly the route, and spam the macro!
It’s useful to have an addon like NPC_scan when you’re starting, but once you learn the route, you won’t need it, just fly and spam the macro.
Faid's Blasted Lands Macro that I've always used
/tar akub /tar blackl /tar cassia /tar clack /tar deathe /tar dreadsc /tar grunter /tar magro /tar mojo /tar mord /tar narix /tar rava /tar spite /tar terem
Once you learn the route, you don’t really need an addon, just spam the /target macro.
If you have tomtom, you can use that, there are waypoints you can add.
/way Blasted Lands 46.8 13.3 Clack the Reaver /way Blasted Lands 37.1 28.3 Dreadscorn /way Blasted Lands 46.7 27.9 Mojo the Twisted (Inside Cave) /way Blasted Lands 52.7 26.9 Deatheye /way Blasted Lands 49.0 35.6 Ravage /way Blasted Lands 60.7 28.1 Mordak Nightbender /way Blasted Lands 54.0 37.0 Grunter /way Blasted Lands 59.1 35.5 Spiteflayer (Patrols) /way Blasted Lands 46.3 39.2 Magronos the Unyielding /way Blasted Lands 32.2 44.6 Narixxus the Doombringer /way Blasted Lands 31.4 69.5 Blackleaf /way Blasted Lands 60.6 75.4 Cassia the Slitherqueen /way Blasted Lands 73.6 55.6 Akubar the Seer /way Blasted Lands 54.7 51.2 Teremus the Devourer (Patrols)
If you use Gatherer with a HUD, you can see your route show up on the heads up display and help guide you as you make further circuits.
I have Gatherer addon up because I’m also pulling double duty and farming the herbs that I fly past. That’s what the red wiggly line is on the Heads Up Display.
Herbs and ore:
Herbs are mostly cheap here, dreamfoil, mountain silversage, gromsblood; I saw some thorium ore mining nodes on the route too.
My scribe was very grateful for the herbs to keep up the stock of glyphs. (click here for part 1 of the Gold From Glyphs Guide)
Some of the rare mobs you will encounter. Click to enlarge.
Your Draenethyst Fragments and Spheres
Turn the Crystal in at NPC Kum’isha the Collector (51,30) to get a bag or box. The imperfect crystal gives a bag with a green item, the perfect gives one blue and a chance at a green, or pattern/recipe. Sometimes you get runecloth too. Small chance at an epic, all ilevel 45-60
2. How to spice up your Blasted Lands Blast with some Cross Realming
Joining a cross realm group will port you to the server of your group leader. And a new server brings new chance at rares. It’s that simple.
Open your group finder tool, mine is keybound to “i”.
If you’re lucky you will find someone listing and welcoming to realm hoppers. Otherwise, you’re going to have to be more pushy. Please be aware that this has some etiquette involved. Some players think this behaviour is absolutely normal and acceptable, and it enrages others. If in doubt, ask before you join.
These groups I found are welcoming to realm hoppers.
Just remember your manners as you realm hop and you shouldn’t be in any sort of trouble. Don’t join up with a 5 man group running quests, because you will stop another player from joining (you can’t do quests in 6 man+ raids).
On the other hand, I’ve recently seen a lot of players in Tanaan listing their groups as “Doomroller up!” only for 20-30 players to join and realise the group leader was just trolling for lulz, there was no Doomroller. In this circumstance, if they want to be silly, then I would feel justified in using them to realm hop for farming.
You could even go all the way in, and check out the Cross Realm Assist addon which helps you find groups to join for the purposes of realm hopping
CAUTION
Golden Manners for a Golden Reputation.
Far far too often I see people doing this.
It costs nothing to say please and thank you.
You have nothing to lose by being polite.
Enough lecturing on manners!
Back on to gold making. Take your loot, your bags and emerald chests, your herbs, and head to the auction house, and profit.
Reminder about selling transmog items
They do not sell instantly, unless you are pricing them wrong.
The more patient you are, the higher price you can ask. The higher price you want, the longer you will have to wait. Reposting is an art. Master it.

Introduction to Cross Realming
Warlords of Draenor mixed things up with gold making.
- At first we had collecting armor from quests and loot.
- Then we had farming.
- Then players realised they could craft and sell crafted items.
- The discovery of the Shuffle was a revolution for gold makers, as everyone realised the benefits of having lots of alts that could craft for each other, and turn useless mats into increasingly valuable goods.
- We added services into the mix – portals, lockpicking, gold dkp runs, selling boosts.
- The WoD hit and Garrisons hit the fan.
Gold making got a lot more complicated, having to juggle lots of BoP trade mats. But WoD brought the new “Group Finder” tool, and it became much easier to create and join groups across servers, which moved your character straight into another realm.
Cross Realming is incredibly useful for farming, for completing quests quickly, for finding raid and dungeon groups and also for exploring other player’s garrisons, picking up quests from their garrison npcs, and using the disenchanting well (Essence Font). Part 2 of the Cross Realm Farming guide will be about farming transmogs using this method. Today’s blog post is about Tanaan Jungle though.
The Tanaan Tango
The Tanaan Tango all hinges on the selling prices of this little baby:
Medallion of the Legion
Right now, really expensive on AH – everyone wants to max their reputations to get flying in patch 6.2.x
It drops from Vengeance, Terrorfist, Doomroller, and Deathtalon
These 4 rares together form an achievement, Hellbane, which requires you to “Defeat all of the champions of Hellfire Citadel in Tanaan Jungle.”
You can only get loot on the first kill each day. But you can come back on your alt/s and have a first kill on your alt also.
There are lots of pugs forming for these kills because the 4 rares also have a chance to drop one of three mounts.
How to do it
Once you have moved to the spawn spot, instead of camping and waiting 1 hour or so for the mob to spawn, you can instead search the Group Finder for a group for that particular mob, and save time with camping. Once you’ve killed that mob, move to the next spot.
Voxxel on Wowhead posted this macro which allows you to check if your character has killed any of the champions on that day
/run local t,s={"Terrorfist",39288,"Vengeance",39290,"Deathtalon",39287,"Doomroller",39289},'' for i=1,#t-1,2 do s=s..(IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(t[i+1]) and '\124cffff0000' or '\124cff00ff00')..t[i]..'\124r, ' end print(s:sub(1,-3))
Red if it’s been killed, green if you’re good to go.
Under Premade, Custom Groups, type in whichever rare you’re looking for. Here I’m looking for Deathtalon, because I haven’t killed him yet.
If there are no groups, patiently keep searching until one pops up, and feel free to kill nearby mobs while you wait.
Once your rare is done, loot, hope for the best, and move on to the next rare. Remember, they are repeatable but you only get loot on the first kill of the day per character/alt.

Blood, Gold and Regret
Shipyard Mission
“The New Blingtron’s Vault”
Shipyard mission updated in 6.2.1 PTR notes.
Blood, Gold, and Regret
“Seizing a fortune proved this destroyer’s undoing. Its crew turned on each other, only to become cursed ghosts, unable to spend the gold they gave their lives for.”
Now rewards 2,000g, up from 325g
Ghost Crew
To counter the ghost crew, you need a Ghostly Spyglass.
The Equipment Blueprint: Ghostly Spyglass is now a guaranteed drop as of July 8th, 2015. from Captain Ironbeard, rare mob in Tanaan Jungle.
I found Captain Ironbeard using the Master Hunter’s Seeking Crystal, which costs 4,500g, plus requires Order of the Awakened – Revered, plus the original Hunter’s Seeking Crystal.
Captain Ironbeard Cave Entrance : 37.5,76.0 Rare: 35.6,79.9
Other increased Gold Rewards from Shipyard Missions
If a Tree Falls in the Forest
700g, up from 100g.
A Ship in Harbor Is Safe, But…
700g up from 100g.
False Economy
750g up from 100g
Glittering Prize
500g up from 100g
Gold in Their Holds
750g up from 250g
Unafraid of Ghosts
800g, up from 450g
Warspear Fishing
325g, up from 100g
Dwarven Crew
Increases the gold gained from a mission by 100%.
Goblin Crew
Increases the gold gained from a mission by 100%.
These two ship crews increase the gold from Shipyard Missions. You can only get this with a new built ship. “If you don’t have a ship with these crews, you may want to decommission an existing ship and rebuild until you get one in order to improve your chances.”
Look for a Destroyer with either a Dwarven or Goblin Crew, and equip a Ghostly Spyglass

Ogrecoming Adversity
A brief tip today about a rare garrison mission that gave me 12,000g.
Ogrecoming Adversity Garrison Mission reward is a [Huge Ogre Cache].
The item grants 1000 Garrison Resources, but it is BoE and sells very well on the auction house!
Typical Auction Age 3.6 hrs
US Median Price 9997g
Note, however the Standard Deviation is over 6,000g. That’s a big swing. Sellers, and Buyers, aren’t exactly sure how much this is worth. So if you put your Cache on the AH and there are no others, you might be lucky and able to convince a buyer it is worth Median+std dev = Quite A Lot Of Gold.
How to get the Huge Ogre Cache
Ogrecoming Adversity is a rare garrison mission.
You need 3 ilvl 675 followers. Duration is 12 hours but you can bring that down with epic mount.
Once it spawns, “pops” in your garrison mission list, you have 7 days to collect the right followers with the right ilvl and right abilities to counter the abilities of the bosses.
I’m using a mixture of Master Plan and Garrison Commander addons to organise my followers and missions.
You’re going to need a good mix of strong followers to counteract the 2 Wild Agression 2 Deadly Minions, Timed Battle and 1 Massive Strike. Followers with Ogreslayer or Apex Predator ( Pallas, the Saberon available from Saberstalker Rep for 100 Blackfang Claws)
Ogrecoming Adversity – Warning
Before you rush for your garrison mission command table, crossing your fingers, be warned: It costs 100 GR just to send your followers off on the mission, so be careful with gambling if your chance of success is below 100%.
AH or Trade Chat?
Please also be aware that if you choose to post the item in the AH instead of advertising it, you will be subject to an AH cut of 5%. 600g less for me! On the other hand, if you bark it in Trade Chat, then you run the risk of competitors noticing and trying to get in on the game. Your gold, your choice!

ps yes yes I know “it’s not worth 12000g”. Don’t buy it folks, sell it!
