Why You Should Change Your Bank Alt/s Today
We can identify you.
We know how many items you’ve got
We know that you are an AH Bank Alt.
We know you were trying to hide your alt to avoid targeting by competitors.
We know you have 50 items to sell, but you’ve only posted one at a time, to make it seem rare.
Allow Me To Explain
On the Undermine Journal, Recent Sellers is not just a list of your competitors, but also the amount of a particular item posted in the last 0-4 and 0-14 days.
So if you have a bank alt that has been posting a rare item, such as [Loaded Gnomish Dice], or perhaps a little less rare like [Sky Golem] the Undermine Journal can see how many you have recently posted.
Scenario:
You have 100 [Things] in your bank.
You post 1 [thing] on the AH.
1 [thing] sells.
Using tsm you grab a replacement [thing] from your bank
You post 1 [thing] on the AH.
To your competitors, at the AH, it looks like you have 1 single thing, and can’t sell it. Oh you terrible failure you seem.
Reality, you have 82 [things] in the bank (18 sold today on the sly).
The savvy competitor can now see how many [things] you have posted on the AH. That means hey can tell approx what scale of hoarding you have in your bank/s
For this reason, I often set up my big main flashy, obvious bank alt with 1,000 boring everyday items to sell on AH. Meanwhile, other alts are quietly making millions of gold from side hustles.

I have set up Auctionator to create shopping lists of rare items that I regularly scan AH, looking for a bargain that can be bought and resold at double, triple or ten times the price. Instead of listing the items I’m going to show you my exact rares list so you can duplicate it yourself:

Top 5 Tips for Gold Making Beginners
- Saving your gold with a Piggy Bank character.

Saving your gold with a Piggy Bank character.
I wrote about this as far back as February 2011. Spending more gold than you make is the single biggest reason why players aren’t rich.
To combat this, I recommend making a “piggy bank character”. This character is an alt to whom you mail across a large lump sum of gold every week (or day, if you’re really bad!) and literally hoard the gold, keeping it out of reach of your spendy fingers.

Optimising your Order hall, and especially your bodyguard follower
Your Legion Order Hall Missions can make you passive gold. That’s gold that comes in without you doing anything, while you are doing something else.
Get your legion order hall missions optimised with the right followers, using Lon Measley and Jabari’s guides.
Pay particular attention to your bodyguard follower, making sure they have +gold in all their equipment slots
Making gold from Crafting. How to “add value”.
The basics of crafting is taking some materials, doing something to change it, then selling it for a higher price.
When you “do something to change it” this is called “adding value”.
How much value you add shows how much you are worth, how much your time is worth.
Taking linen cloth, turning it into bandages and vendoring them is a very low added value.
Cutting gems is a much higher value added.
Using TSM to sell high quantities/low qualities
Auctionator and Auctioneer are useful addons for the AH, but if you want to post items really fast, in large quantities you need to get hold of Trade Skill Master, and set up your scroll-wheel to post super fast. This way, you no longer need to worry about the quality of the items that you’re posting, because you can do so in large numbers.
Here’s an old guide using TSM2 that shows you how to post the items. You can still follow the basics to post your ‘greenies’ today.

In TSM4, the scroll wheel macro setup looks like this
Buy low, sell high. Flipping.
Flipping is the art of buying an item, and reselling it for more gold. To do this, you need to know what an item is really worth, so you need to know your buyers. Once you know that, you can work backwards and find items that are posted for less than that price.
This gives you two opportunities to make gold. Make gold by buying an item cheaper than its value. And make gold by selling an item at a higher price.
Staying aware of the latest news
Once a guide hits wowhead, everyone will see it. But not everyone stays ahead of patch notes, or the secret finding discord.

Being ahead of the news is one reason why I was able to make bank with selling Major Protection Potions, as per this guide from June 2017. What I didn’t mention in the blog post, in order to avoid spoilers, was that these potions were selling well to players farming the new secret pet found that afternoon.

With Curse taken over by Twitch, and Twitch taken over by Amazon, some of the functionality of Curse addons has been lost.
In particular, I can’t find my addon suite that I built back in 2011 and updated over the years.

1. Trade Skill Master

I’ve grown to love auctionator over the last few years because of its beautiful shopping lists that allow me to scan groups of items and compare their prices, buy exactly what I want for the right price, and easily post an item for the amount that I choose, rather than simply undercutting.
With auctionator I can give each item individual attention as I post it for sale on the Auction House, and check which warcraft competitors have also posted the same item, their prices, and their quantities. This is essential for me when watching item trends, supply, and demand.
3. World Quest Group Finder
Because quests give gold, and doing them in a group makes them faster and easier.

4. Server Hop
The natural successor to Cross Realm Assist. Server hop helps you move from realm to realm.
Useful for finding rare mobs, completing quests with minimum competition, mining herbs and ore, even for buying extra copies of limited supply vendor items.

5. Garrison Mission Manager
For order hall and garrison if you occasionally go back there. Because who wants to mess around calculating different combinations of followers. Gatherer
Not strictly useful for auctioneering, this helps players who enjoy farming raw mats such as herbs and ore.

Discipline
Discipline is one of those words that bring memories to the forefront. Whether it’s talking about how your parents raised you, or the need to control your actions and choices to reach a higher goal.
Since I don’t know how your parents raised you, nor do I really want to know I want to talk about the latter. Fun toys all the time come up for sale or auction. Players wanting to get rid of BOE pets, gear, transmogrification items tempt the best of Gold Goblins in spending their hard earned gold.
Black Market Auction House is My Second Home
I was sitting on the Black Market Auction House deciding if I wanted to raise a big higher for an item I wanted. This last week I was on a pet collecting march and one of the rare Trading Card Game pets came up. The Banana Charm was up for bid, with the price when I arrived at 21k. That’s a hefty amount of gold for a pet, but I was in a spending mood plus it’s an 80 dollar real money pet if you buy the card from eBay (or other sources).
So I sat there thumbing through the web while I waited for the auction to end. I was outbid once, twice (nope, not three times a lady) by someone who obviously wanted this pet too. I used all of my auction house techniques other than calling them bad names (they were Alliance) and then proceeded to make a decision.
I had enough gold I could drop a 100k bomb on them and knock them out pretty quickly. But that is a seriously overpriced payment for a battle pet. Or I could discipline myself into saying this is the amount I’m willing to pay and no more. So mentally I set that price, and then walked away.
Golden Surprise in my Mailbox
As I logged on this morning I found myself the owner of a new Banana Charm and the pet that comes with it. Frankly, it doesn’t always happen like this. Someone might want the item a little bit more than I do. Items such as rare mounts tend to get a lot of interest and spirited bidding. The key is to discipline yourself into knowing just what you want and what it is worth to you. If you have higher plans for your gold (Spectral Tiger anyone?) then you have to look at each purchase you make and how much that will delay your ability to reach your goal.
Weaknesses in Personal Gold Making
My Achilles heel is helping others. I probably have given a million gold plus simply by not charging my guild mates for items. Giving materials that could be resold for bundles of gold is one of the simple pleasures I get out of life. If I know you then I will probably help you. But there is a limit to any generosity because I have plans of my own. Goals I would like to reach gold wise and purchases in the future that will be my next expectation.
Balance and Discipline
Finding balance and discipline in every transaction goes to the heart of being a Gold making machine in World of Warcraft. Keep this in mind the next time you bid on your own Banana Charm. Not just looking at it in how much gold you’re spending, but how much time it will delay you from reaching your true epic expectations in your gold bank.
