Patch 4.06 is almost upon us, with reports pointing to Tuesday (Wednesday in EU) 8th/9th February. Are you prepared? This post focuses on the gold making opportunities that are coming up for the next World of Warcraft patch.
Inscription

Jewelcrafting
A socket has been added to most crafted epic armor pieces that did not already have one. This is going to drive up, temporarily, the demand for cut gems. Prepare and stock up today.
New Gem: Vivid Dream Emerald. The resilience/spell penetration gem will be in demand for PVPers, but I don’t think it will be wanted much more than any other pvp gem. Perhaps a pvp guru can correct me or back me up here?
New Meta Gem Patterns: Agile Shadowspirit Diamond (Agility/3% critical damage), Reverberating Shadowspirit Diamond (Strength/3% critical damage), and Burning Shadowspirit Diamond (Intellect/3% critical damage). These new recipes are unbound and can drop from any Cataclysm creature. The new meta gems have a requirement of 3 red gems equipped.
Everyone I’ve spoken to has no idea whereabouts these patterns will drop, or how rare they might be. But the best suggestion I’ve heard is “Farm the trade channel”. Expect to offer over 10,000g for the first pattern seen. Expect to get a return on your investment within the first day.
The requirement of 3 red gems is especially going to drive up the demand for inferno ruby. You know what to do: go buy/prospect them now in advance.
These new meta gems are going to need raw Shadowspirit diamonds. This is a great use of the spare common gems you can make from prospecting ore and doing the Cataclysm Obsidium Shuffle. I already have half a dozen full stacks ready for the patch day.
Tailoring
The Illusionary Bag, currently 24 slot, will increase to a 26 slotter. That’s the biggest bag in game, larger than the portable holes. For me, this is a big deal because having big bags is absolutely essential to the way I play. When you hold more items, you don’t have to run back and forth to the mailbox so much. Your personal bank space also increases. If you don’t have a vendor mount then you can also go farming/heroic running/questing for slightly longer, as the bags take longer to fill. And we know that time is money, friend.
Alchemy
The number of herbs required to create flasks has been reduced, while the Volatile Life needed has been increased slightly.
Knock on effect for scribes who will find that herb supply is increased, possibly decreasing herb prices!
Expect a small surge in demand for Volatile Life, and stock up in advance.Enchanting
Three new bracer enchants are available. They increase Agility by 50, Strength by 50, or Intellect by 50 respectively. Item level 300 or higher required. These new recipes are rare world drops.
Once again, a chance to luckily discover the pattern in the ‘wild’ or to wait hopefully on trade channel and be the highest bidder. The new patterns will be a good money maker for enchanters. Today would be a good day to stock up on Maelstrom Crystals before they leap in price.
Engineering
The Electrified Ether recipe now creates 2 to 3 Electrified Ether instead of 1. Â This should make engineers happier, as it will cost less to craft. It will also make everyone else happier who uses Volatile Air, as there will be more supply, lowering the price. Now is a good time to sell your stocks before the prices fall.
Vendors selling Trade Mats
It will now be possible to buy raw trade mats from the Justice and Honor vendors. This will increase the supply of raw materials on the market and hopefully make things cheaper to craft. Expect to be able to buy lots of cheap mats from players who are dumping their points to make a few gold. Expect your customers to have more gold and buying power. This is similar to when gems became purchasable with points in WOTLK, expect you have more varied markets to watch, sorry!
