I’m talking from experience here. I used to go to the auction house every few levels with my characters, and kit them out with the latest gear, gems, enchants, and they would stand outside in the dull Ironforge sunshine, twinkling and dripping with epics. And I didn’t have a copper to my name. Then I’d repeat the same mistake with each and every one of my alts, regardless of whether I would even play them again.
I even have a level 40 with a travellers tundra mammoth that I haven’t logged on in over a year. What a waste.
Go get yourself number 8 from my list of Essential Addons. That addon is called pen and paper. This week, note down exactly what you’re spending every day, and why. Figure out a way to control your spending addiction. Perhaps put some aside every day, or move all your gold to one piggy bank character that can hold it for you and make it more difficult for you to access and spend on crap you don’t need. Before you invest in that “one time amazing deal” of a thousand stacks of silk cloth at half price, step back and think. Deep inside, you know that they’re just going to sit in your bank, and you’re wasting your gold and your time. Stop Spending!
