Tillers’ Friendship Reputation: Dark Soil in Valley of the Four Winds

Tillers’ Friendship Reputation: Dark Soil in Valley of the Four Winds

The Tillers in Mists of Pandaria

As well as acting like a normal reputation faction, there are 10 Tillers NPCs with whom you can increase your faction reputation from Stranger to Best Friend.

The easiest and fastest way to get rep with each of the NPCs is to give them a gift.

You can find out which gift they each like by talking to them.  They have particular preferences which give more rep than giving them another gift.

You can find the gifts in the Dark Soil patches which spawn around the farming area in Valley of the Four Winds.

You can also gather the gifts from your own farm, when you harvest a crop, if you’re lucky.

None of the rewards are very useful for making gold.  They’re mostly decorative.  Even when you get to exalted status and earn the option to ask one of your Best Friends to join you at the ranch, they don’t do much farming.  Chooseing Jogu the Drunk gives you free predictions for crops, one second’s flight closer, and choosing Gina Mudclaw moves the faction vendor one second closer.  However, you still need to go to the market to buy seeds, so both are a waste of time in my opinion.

Songbell Seeds

One of the types of seeds, which is first offered to you by Haohan Mudclaw are Songbell seeds.  These harvest a mote of harmony. Dedicating your farm to songbell plants will net you 1.6 Spirit of Harmony per day. Nice if you’re not feeling violent.

Farming Valley of the Four Winds

An unexpected bonus for you.  My maps of ore and herbs from Valley of the Four Winds.  Naturally they’re only nodes that I have visited myself, on the beta. So you will be able to get new ones soon.  However they should help you in the few days before you are able to generate your own maps with Gatherer or GatherMate 2.

  1. Dark Soil can be found anywhere, I was doing the Celestial Dragon er the faction where you get he dragon(sorry I am at work and cant look it up) and found a few. The farms are pretty heavily farmed so honestly I do not even try.

    • I found several in Vale of Eternal Blossoms, and one in Krasarang. However they are just not as plentiful as around the farms area. I’m also working on a theory that they spawn faster, the faster that other players loot them, like ore and herbs.

  2. Nice article with quite a bit of good information, but I have to play devil’s advocate and ask something: How useful is this from a gold-making perspective?

Now, don’t get me wrong. No one’s arguing that the Tillers faction itself and the farm aren’t. An alternative way to generate mats, especially Motes of Harmony, is definitely welcome.

The individual friendships, however, don’t seem to have any effect on your overall Tillers reputation, and that’s what unlocks new seeds, additional plots of soil, etc. About the only thing the individual friendships seem to give are some cosmetic bonuses and a very limited, one-time supply of some seeds.

It just seems like there are better ways to spend the time in-game from a gold-maker’s perspective, particularly now, when there are far more things to do than there are hours in the day to do them.

    • You’re right Tailswish, “None of the rewards are very useful for making gold. They’re mostly decorative.” On the other hand, I loathe having rep un-finished, and hopefully the map (and the maps of ore and herbs) will give you a head start to get them all finished quick and out the way.
