Worthless

I was alerted to this five minutes ago via twitter (follow me @thegoldqueen) and confirmed on MMO champion PTR datamined notes.

What would this mean for us?

  • The obsidium (and elementium) shuffle no longer works
  • The floor price for Obsidium has changed to 4g 50s
  • That’s a drop of about 50g.
  • Elementium floor price is also affected
  • If you are saving Pyrite for Epic gems with the back-up plan that they could also be prospected to make uncut common gems for vendoring:  Change your plan.

Pyrite hoarders:

You better be damn sure that this ore is going to be used for epic gems (perhaps your uncle runs Blizzard and has some inside goss?)  If not, get rid of it now.

There is going to be mass panic with sales. You can either

  1. Sell ore now. Before the price fall.
  2. Or prospect now and vendor.
  3. Or wait for prices to fall to the bottom, buy up a load and cross your fingers that the prices will bounce up slightly before reaching a steady figure

The way forward with this one is to play the moderate path, until this datamined information is proved true or false.

More about 4.1 tomorrow, follow me on twitter for up to the second news.

  1. Uriul and Shatamall, I hope I’ve answered your points in my new post on the Obsidium Production Line
    http://www.thegoldqueen.com/posts/addons/obsidium-shuffle-production/

To summarise, it’s less about how much gold you can make, and more about how much gold PER HOUR you can make, and sometimes you can make more gold per hour by doing 2 or 3 sets of ore > cut gems >vendor, than by doing 1 set of ore>gem>ring/neck>dust/essence> enchanting scroll > AH

That’s what Ore Crusher add does, it checks your profit per action and advises you which is the most profitable. I’ve been able to make thousands of gold per hour just turning them into vendorable gems. I’d go grab my spreadsheet to prove it but alas, today is “make a lot of gold” day and I’m working hard on doing just that!

  2. Yeah, I had the same thought as Uriul (enchanting mats and other outlets for the shuffle). I rarely (if ever) end up cutting and vendoring uncommons.

  3. The shuffle has NEVER been based on the idea that you actually want to vendor gems. The only gem that that’s actually a part of the process for is zephyrite, and even then you want to sell as many as you can for the JC daily.

This shouldn’t change what you do unless enchanting mats are extremely cheap on your server, and vendoring the gems was a better profit, in which case I would argue there are better things you could have been doing with your time to begin with. The profit from the shuffle if you were vendoring is not great.

    This does two things:
    1) Makes it a risk to buy tons of ore; your safety net is removed.
    2) Removes a potentially huge source of inflation. Players selling things to vendors rather than to other players is NOT good for us, overall.

  4. We have to wait and see , but better start preparing for the worse.
