Children’s Week in World of Warcraft will be celebrated between 1st May and 7th May. At the time of posting, that’s 6 weeks in the future, but you’re going to come back to me in May and say “aunty gold queen I’m so glad you reminded me to get prepared in time!”
Children’s Week is the time of giving back to the children made orphans by the wars in Azeroth, and seasonal quests are centred around Stormwind and Orgrimmar. Since the original Children’s Week, two further orphan matrons were added in Shattrath and in Dalaran. To most players, Children’s Week is famous for two things: dragging a child around various sights around the world, and being killed repeatedly in battlegrounds trying to achieve the more difficult of the achievements.
To gold makers and the businessmen of World of Warcraft though, Children’s week presents a unique opportunity to cash in on the players who are trying to complete the seasonal achievements.
The achievement ‘Bad Example‘ requires you to stuff your face with sweets and cake in front of your starving orphan. Some of the items are easily obtainable, others are going to be much rarer, and that’s where we’re going to set to work to make a shedload of gold.
You’re going to need:
- Tigule and Foror’s Strawberry Ice Cream
- Red Velvet Cupcake
- Lovely Cake Slice
- Dalaran Doughnut
- Tasty Cupcake
- Delicious Chocolate Cake
- Dalaran Brownie
You can get the red velvet cupcake, dalaran donut, dalaran brownie and lovely cake from the cake vendor at the northern bank in Dalaran, and the icecream from a childrens week vendor at the banks in Stormwind and Orgrimmar.
The tasty cupcakes and delicious chocolate cake needs to be cooked by a chef with the recipes. If you don’t have them yet, you could either work on getting them by Children’s Week, or you could find a friend or business partner to cook for you, preferably now before they get cheesed off making all the cakes that will be in demand in a few weeks. All the ingredients are found easily enough at cooking vendors or innkeepers, with two exceptions.

Tasty Cupcake needs northern eggs. These are currently cheap on the AH, so you may want to buy them now in order to make the cakes and sell them later, or you might want to stop there and just resell the eggs for a huge profit instead.
Delicious Chocolate Cake needs Mageroyal and Small eggs. Mageroyal is mostly cheap on the auction house, and this is a good time to stock up. Small eggs are notoriously volatile. (New elemental, Volatile Eggs, anyone? hehe) So you must start grabbing the cheap small eggs now, unless you want to be stuck farming vultures in Westfall until kingdom come.
With each cake needing 8 small eggs each, and eggs selling for between 1 and 10g each, you’re going to be able to charge a fortune for the chocolate cake once you made them.
It’s basically your choice, and depends on your server, whether you try and sell the raw mats, the cooked cakes, or whether you want to try my other suggested strategy:
Buy and package a bundle together of all the cakes and candy plus your tasty cupcake and delicious chocolate cake – everything you need to complete the achievement and advertise it for sale as a whole package on Trade Chat. Of course, this depends on your skills at barking in trade chat.

I’ll let you into a secret. There is a better place for the alliance to farm small eggs than Westfall. Running around all over the northern half of Westfall, looking for Fleshrippers? Their habitat is too widespread, their respawn rate is pretty low, and so is their stock of small eggs. No thanks. Since the Cataclysm came, Loch Modan has been blessed with the Loch Buzzard, which drops eggs in abundance, and respawns at a comfortable rate for a level 15 character, so that there is almost always another to kill when you’ve finished killing and looting the last one. If not (for instance, if you are a high enough level that you can one-shot them), then you can busy yourself killing and skinning the crocs that share their habitat, while you wait for the next Buzzard to respawn. Best of all, the rest of your competitors are fighting it out in Westfall, or competing with the horde outside Silvermoon City .

Thanks for the tips, queenie. Made a lot of gold with them. I didn’t have the time to bark/sell the complete package, but my cakes went for 270-300g, eggs around 80g, mageroyal 15-30g. Even the Port was bought for 1g70s. Insane.

While harder to get to for Alliance, the best place I’ve found to “farm” small eggs are from the level 5-6 dragonhawks outside of Silvermoon City. Seriously, the small eggs have a 100% drop rate and there’s hardly any other mobs in that area, so you get stacks of eggs in a matter of minutes. Furthermore, if you have a leatherworker, you can skin them and use or sell the leather for further profit. I do this every holiday which requires small eggs, like Children’s Week and Winter Veil. The next closest drop rate are the buzzards in Loch Modan, at 71%.
I usually have to do this, since the servers I’m on almost never have small eggs on the AH except for holidays like this.
I used to farm the moonkin in darkshore but sadly the cataclysm destroyed them!
I sold both Delicious Chocolate Cakes and mats for them also the cakes from Dala, and Northern Eggs. I was the only one selling all day, just a few random that put in a stack of eggs and Mageroyal. I took 395 for the cakes, and sold well all day. Made about 19k but that also include a hyacint macaw for 8.5k. At midnight the first cakesellers came, and destroyed my 395, and listed for 180, and falling prices down to 99g. I really shouldnt complain cause I made a record that day selling. I just have more respect for someone undercutting me with a few silver rather than 200g.
I used your strategy, and, using trade chat for the first time barking, made $500g selling 2 complete packages in less than 2 minutes. Could have sold more, but ran out of eggs! Thanks so much!

Yeah stocked up on mageroyal and both lots of eggs when they were cheap. I made a killing last night and early this morning but since market has faded a little although people are still buying the Dalaran treats but for a reduced price on what I had them on for earlier. I have made around 5k overnight and then dumped my leftover mats on AH, 212 gold for 4 small eggs..lol. My g/f has farmed a few and even this morning has made a killing. I have also managed to sell milk, flour and port at higher prices. So it’s around 5k and counting but it will continue to trickle in. Now people are starting to offer to cook for people and trade chat is highlighting where you can get all these things from so I don’t know how much more I will squeeze out of it. Thanks for the heads up, I felt like I had stocked up too soon but now I wish I had got more cheap mageroyal and eggs.
Yeah it was frustrating for me, too, to see all the cakes in my mailbox day after day, waiting and waiting for children’s week. But I knew the guys on my server were very gold-savvy and I should stock up extra extra early to beat them.

I am not going to have time today to bark in trade cuz of my daughters bday party. I was hope the AH would do the work for me but I was very disappointed when I log on to remote AH to see what this guy had done. It just makes no sense.
Ok so I was the only poster on pretty much.everything last night, this morning there are loads of posts on ah. i listed most of the dala treats for 100g since i was the only poster, this morning some idiot listrd a crap load of thrse treats for like 1g each. how am i supposed to make any gold when he has gone through and undercut me so much.

Children’s Week is my 2nd most profitable holiday, behind Winter’s Veil.
Can’t wait to unload the 30 or so cakes I had leftover from last year that I just couldn’t delete. Small Eggs, Chocolate Cakes, and Mageroyal all sell very well and for nicely gouged prices.
