About five minutes ago on my main’s server, I heard some poor guy, lets call him Panda, in trade yelling “LF loan!” and “LF ways to earn 700g in an hour!” I will spare your delicate ears the suggestions he received over trade chat *smirk*
Anyway, feeing in a generous mood, I whispered him, asking his professions. He said mining, and I suggested he sell some ore, but it appears he only had mid level mining. He didn’t fancy running over to Sunwell Isle to look for some Khorium.
So we took a different tactic, I suggested he read the Moongraze Tenderloin idea suggested by Lindsey in his guest post. He seemed a little less frantic when he realised that I was actually offering him real tips and ideas, and started to trust me. He asked me how much a particular shield would sell for, and I checked it in my auctioneer database and gave him the details. He then opened up completely and I realised that he wanted the 700g quickly in order to buy this shield, he wasn’t asking me to buy it so he could have gold.
I asked him if he’d considered buying the mats and getting the shield made, and he was astonished. He thought that the shield was a Bastion of Twilight drop. I assured him it was a Blacksmith made item, and suggested he go look it up on Wowhead.
Checking with a guild mate, it appears the cost of the mats for the shield was over 1,000g less than the selling price. So he no longer needed to earn 700g, and could actually get the shield and still have gold left in his pocket. A couple of minutes later, Panda had his shield equipped, and I made a new mate.
Lessons to be learned, hm?

Excellent post! This was exactly the situation I encountered with a total stranger I met in trade chat recently, except he was selling Primals to earn gold rather than asking for loans. You can read about it here: http://kammlerskorner.blogspot.com/2011/03/phugglys-phinancial-dilemma-gold-making.html
I love stories like this because I think they underscore the real reason the community is so valuable. The bloggers are real players on real servers who are able to step in and help total strangers.
Kudos to you Gold Queen! You qualify for my “Random Act of Kindness” award for the week.
Help a strange now and maybe you gain a friend later. How knows what the future holds .

hey its Pandamonium, the name panda is growing on me 😉
in the end I took the Gold queens advice and made it using the Regents rather than purchasing it off the Auction house.
