At the core, it’s simple.  Buy low. Resell at the prices buyers will pay.

You know that, right?

Then add on all the pets you need to learn about.

And add on the storage.  Add on the psychology of buyers.

Add on  knowing different ways to get hold of these.  Add on the encouragement to keep at it.  Add on the highs of patches and expansions when pets are in demand.

Take away the lows of the weeks when you think you’ll never sell anything.  Take away the frustrations of undercutters.   Multiply by the frustrations of “where did my competitor get that pet from?” and divide by the pleasure of a buyer asking “do you have any more?”.

Selling pets is one niche out of many. If it’s one you haven’t mastered yet, then please have a look now.

Pets are going to be huge in Mists of Pandaria. You know that.

Why shouldn’t you have a share in the gold too?

I’d ask you not to buy the guide and come on my server, but there are already two players who have the guide on my faction in my server, and we all still get along and we all still make 1,000g+ a day.

How much is the guide?

The Pet Selling Guide was priced at 9.99, with a discount to 7.99 for the first few days.  Guess who was lazy and didn’t sort out the graphic design to reflect the increase to 9.99?

You can thank Martin, VeganCats, for raising this with me.  I should have just changed the sales page to say 9.99

Call me lazy, or call me over-excitable, but I said screw it, we’ll do it the other way around….!

Price has been reduced to 7.99 from now until Mists of Pandaria

At MoP I’m withdrawing the guide from sale.  So your free updates last until everything is turned upside down.

Oh, and Martin, I really appreciate your kind words to me recently, noticing the prices, and taking the time to chat to me and the other readers. That’s why I’m sending you $9.99. Your guide should be free, because you rock.  And I hope you make a lot of gold with the pets guide and all that it inspires in you.

Are you a regular reader and didn’t know I sold guides, too?  Hey that’s fine.

My philosophy is give away 80% for free.

The final 20% plus the organisation of the 100% total into useful order, I ask for a payment for my time.

So The Gold Queen blog will be free, come by and get info any time you need.

You can always contact me by email or the lovely easy contact form if you wanna know anything. Ok?

It’s 2am, I’m-a going to bed.  You should do the same. NN.

That’s a good point about player’s mains already getting the pet love and their alts getting the el cheapo dregs, although a new Panda main will have fewer pet gaps to fill than would a new main in Wraith before account wide pets.

I don’t see Blizzard making wild or TCG pets any better than currently available pets. There would be a fair hullabaloo (and set a dangerous precedent) if the best pet turned out to be only available through TCG.

People will still want to collect every pet and get achievements, so demand will still be there, but you’re right that certain pets will lose or gain value according to their perceived combat value. It does make stockpiling pets problematic, unless you have a hand in every pie.

Your last sentence made me wonder if there might be an opportunity for someone to specialise in comparing visual value with battle combat value, and creating a special system in the way that DEAZEROTH did with transmogrification.

(Did I just create another 100 hours work for myself? eep)

Not sure where to put this list at the moment so I’ll just leave it here:

    BATTLE_PET_SOURCE_5 – Pet Battle
    BATTLE_PET_SOURCE_6 – Achievement
    BATTLE_PET_SOURCE_7 – World Event
    BATTLE_PET_SOURCE_8 – Promotion
    BATTLE_PET_SOURCE_9 – Trading Card Game

This is an awesome point GQ. I’ve already started stocking up on the engineering pet mats because some of them are going to be more difficult to come around as people are eating them up to level etc. The two out of Gnomeregan are just going to funnier than anything to see in a pet battle.

What happens if Blizzard introduces account wide pets? The market will shrink to new accounts with the occasional veteran buying whatever pet/s they’re missing.

I’ve found during the last few years that players will have a Favourite, if not a main, character. This is the character that they give all their best mounts to, the character who is the pet collector. Until now, the alts just didn’t get a look-in for the pets, except for the ultra cheapies available in starting zones. (cat carriers, snakes, moths)

Allowing all characters, including those neglected pet-less alts, to have access to the pets will put a minimal dent in the pet-demand. What worries me more is whether particular pets will become neglected in MoP because wild pets, or trading card game pets can “fight better” or suit a players prefered fighting style. Players will be searching websites looking for what is seen as the best pet, rather than going on pure visuals, or rarity.

I absolutely do hope that our friends at Blizzard make the rarest vanity pets have at least a bit of an advantage as say a cockroach off the Undercity.

At the very least, my achievements/pets main (with 15+ 85’s a have a main-of-the-week) holding 162 pets, sure hopes so!

But still, I am cranking up my engineer and other citizens of the Hippie Nation to farm the little critters.

Heck even now, a few days ago, I just sold a Mulgore Hatchling for 6K gold. I am sure it would have gone higher on the Alliance side.

I bow to you my Gold Queen.
