Crusader Formula News

I was just thinking about how human curiosity is natural, and I’ve found a nice example of “good gossip”: The spread of information about the new drop location of the Crusader Enchant Formula.

Sinshroud from the Consortium Forums drew the attention of the gold making community on twitter (catch me @thegoldqueen).  I consider Sinshroud a friend, not just another warcraft blogger/forum manager. I want to give him a shoutout for bringing this to our attention.  He in turn confirmed the new drop that had been discovered by Verelyse (Hi Verelyse, I don’t know who you are, but thank you!).

Wowhead link to Crusader Formula

The Crusader Enchant was once a very expensive tank enchant at level 60, and the formula used to drop from Scarlet Spellbinders, a unique mob south of Hearthglen in western plaguelands before Cataclysm. When they were removed, owners of the formula asked for high prices in the AH.  The price for the scroll of enchant didn’t seem to change much, but players paid thousands for the actual crusader formula. Sinshroud says “I feel sorry for those who have bought it recently from the AH for up to 15,000g.”

Crusader is now a popular enchantment for alts under level 60, I believe scrolls can be applied to BOA heirloom weapons.  I’m not big on enchants for twinks and heirlooms so I hope someone will confirm this 100%. The enchant gives the chance to increase strength and a heal to self when striking in melee combat.   It also has a great glow which you can check out on the legendary glowchart.com They’re selling for around 600g on my server.

Formula: Enchant Weapon – Crusader

Crusader Enchant Formula now drops from Scarlet Archmages (Wowhead link to Scarlet Archmage) These are spellcaster mobs in Tyr’s Hand, a small Scarlet area in Eastern Plaguelands.

Sinshroud offers this warning about farming Archmages in Tyr’s Hand

[WARNING] There is a quest line in lower Tyre’s Hand Vacinity that starts with the quest Victory From Within and ends in Like Rats that when completed, the good guys basically take over the undead in Tyr’s Hand and you won’t be able to see or kill the Archmages that drop the formula anymore.  I just found out the hard way by doing the quest line inbetween clears waiting for the mobs to respawn.

The Crusader Formula is selling today for nearly 10,000g on my home server, but I would suggest that you get to Tyr’s Hand and pick these up quickly before the rest of your server discovers the news!

Fast Crusader Farming on any server

The Scarlet Archmages are level 42-43 and hostile to both alliance and horde factions.  Living in Eastern Plaguelands they are perfect fodder for a brand new death knight to fly down from Acherus: The Ebon Hold!  I’m making a new death knight now to try out this idea and will let you know in the moments whether it is successful.  Your starting-level DK at 58 can kill and farm the Scarlet Archmages and sell the Crusader Enchants for a much better profit, and possibly for more fun than a level 1 human camping for Lil’ Timmy’s white kitten in Stormwind!

Could this be the new and most efficient gold-per-hour for a starting toon? Or will it be disqualified because DKs don’t count?

“all your formulas belong to my fearsome DK gnome!”

The Argument

At the risk of incurring wrath from Markco (previous author of Just My Two Copper) and Cold (Cold’s Gold Factory) I’m going to comment on the current argument between the two. The argument centers around the JMTC Coaching program and refunds for coaches who have backed out of the program. I have stopped taking part in the program myself. I cancelled my paypal payment and have not suffered the re-billing that the other coaches had.

I am still offering private consultations to readers, at the same rate and with the same personal attention. However, I decided that the monthly fee was far too much just to be added to an unpleasant and under-advertised webpage. Just contact me for a friendly chat.

The background to this argument can be found here:  Cold‘s post.  Markco‘s post.

The public part of the argument played out in real time across Twitter, with other bloggers joining in. Some sided with one party, some with another. One blogger tried to play the fool/joker and laugh away their tension. Another blogger stopped following them both temporarily in seeming disgust at the situation. You get the idea, right?

My opinion

Perhaps due to the way I was brought up, perhaps due to my gender, my age (elderly compared to many wow players!) or perhaps because I’m a wimp, I did not get involved on the flaming across twitter that spread to the other bloggers as some laughed, some tried to put out the fires, and some were just shocked and surprised.

I have a golden rule: Be nice.

I try and keep it on my blog, in world of warcraft, and in the members forums. Sometimes I mess up, but I try.  I value my reputation. I value my readers. I don’t think my readers would be impressed to hear one side of an argument, especially if it was peppered with shocking accusations.  You guys come here to read gold tips, right!?  The world of warcraft gold blog community is too small and too precious to me for me to attack any member. The other wow gold bloggers are not competition, they’re my mates.  And I don’t attack my mates.

Did Markco mess up? Was it from forgetfulness, being busy, or malice?  Did Cold do his best to resolve the matter peaceably?  Did we need to see this public and ugly fight?  One wise friend on Twitter brought up Hanlon’s Razor: “Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.” Give your mate the benefit of the doubt, and try and work it out together, that’s how I do it.  Some more quotes:

Either remain silent or say something which is better than silence.

Better to remain silent and thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt

Sometimes I fail at this. It’s very easy to jump to the worst opinion. I’m lucky to have some good friends to keep me thinking the best of people. It’s easy to be cynical.  It’s easy to be naive.  It’s not so easy to aim for realism and keep your chin up in the face of the noisy minority.  The most difficult time I experienced is when a so-called friend walked off with 75% of all my gold, refusing to pay back a loan I had trusted him with, spewing slander and painful lies over /trade chat. I wanted to poke his eyes out and introduce his testicles to a cheese grater. But enough of that, I’m trying to be polite here!

Which wow bloggers are the most well-mannered in my personal opinion?

Toltec. Dark Tuesday. King of Friendliness.
Flux. Power Word:Gold. Prince of Honor.

Both these guys deserve extra respect and extra link from me!

Can we apply any of this to making gold in World of Warcraft?

If you badmouth player X in trade chat, you will simply gain a reputation for bad mouthing people.

(I’m going to be explaining that in more detail in the upcoming WoW Mini-Guide “Making Gold for Teens”)

Items in WoW have a value. What cannot be valued though is Time, Bag Space, and Reputation.  Each of these will add value to the items you are selling.

  1. Time: Time is money, friend.  The more time you have to play, the more value you can add to an item.
  2. Bag Space: The more room in your bags, then the more items you can loot on your journeys.  The more items you can carry between mailbox and AH, then the faster you can get them all posted.  Bag Space is essential for me.
  3. Reputation: Reputation is what this post is all about.

  • With a good reputation, players add you to their friends list.
  • They ask you to craft items for them.
  • They recommend you to their friends.
  • They happily buy your items from auction house.

  • With a bad reputation, players laugh at you on trade chat.
  • They skip your sales in the Auction House.
  • They tell their friends that you suck.
  • You miss out on invites to raids, heroics, pugs.
  • Overall, you make less gold.

Please, thank you, and a little consideration will pay off in the end. Follow my golden rule “be nice” and the majority (but not all) players will be nice to you in return.

Hey everyone, I have a tip for you today from a reader, Florian, that I received through email.  I’ll let him explain it to you.  (Now it’s *me* being the lazy one, eh? hehe)

Hello Goldqueen, a frequent reader of your blog here. I maybe have a nice hint for all your readers which you might want to post?
With the new Zandalaari Heroic Instances, everybody needs itemlevel-gear.

I am currently making huge amounts of gold with my method.

I craft 4-6 epic (of each profession) blacksmithing/leatherworking belts every day, basicially these recipes:

  • Corded Viper Belt
  • Hardened Elementium Girdle
  • Elementium Girdle of Pain

The material costs for these items vary, but depending on the auction house prices on your individual server, you should do 1500-2500g profit per belt!

AND you don’t have to be a blacksmith/leatherworker to do this, I’m simply looking for somebody in the tradechat offering 200g per orb and 50g tip.

Best Regards, Florian

Thank you Florian, it’s something we can all look into!

Everyone with over 500k will tell you that making gold is sometimes easy, sometimes luck and mostly just hard work. Researching markets, crafting, prospecting, milling, barking, having the tenacity to repost and keep selling.

I run a gold blog.  I publish all my hints and tips.  I give my information away. All you have to do is type in my URL.  Or check your email.  Or your RSS reader. Or your kindle (you get the idea). ÂHell, I started my blog because of the number of players asking me for my hard gained strategies and information.

If you really want something, like getting some gold, get off your backside and go get it.  Don’t know how to get it? Grats, you just unlocked the achievement [cba to google].

So what really pisses me off is when otherwise intelligent players ask me for tips, get them handed to them on a silver platter, then say they can’t be arsed, its too much trouble.  Worse, they ask for a loan until they can be bothered to make their own gold. Or they beg in trade.  Or join a pug heroic for gold, do half the dps of the others, and generally “earn” their gold by being a bottom feeding basement dwelling leech.

So, today’s gold tip is that patch 4.1 removed the cooldown from ….

… to find out, you need to listen to Flux’s excellent podcast.  And I’m not going to tell you where in the podcast you can find the tip.  So you’ll have to listen to all of it to find out.

You’re not too lazy are you?

Glance Addon for World of Warcraft

Cold’s Gold Factory asked World of Warcraft Gold bloggers to write in response to his request for information for unusual and over-looked gold making UI addons for auction house experts who may have missed them. That means not the usual addons that made my Essential Warcraft Addons list, and not the addons from my Gold Queen Curse Addons Pack.  I think that means I’m even banned from preaching the joys of using pen and paper to note down materials costs and selling prices and working out profit margins for yourself.  Phooey.

Introduction to Glance Addon

I’ve found this little treasure, called Glance, that you can download from Curse. Glance gives you a little bar along the top of your screen (resizeable under /glance options).  At first glance (get it?) it looks like fubar (no longer updated) or titan panel.

What I like about Glance is the simplicity to install, and to use.  It gives you a quick check on several important pieces of information you might want to know, one of which is your gold and also your gold per hour.  Regular readers will know that I’m quite focused on gold per hour, time is money friend.

You can also see information such as number of emblems/points, friends online, guild mates, armor repair percent, rep, professions, lag, fps, memory usage (can be useful for finding which addons are slowing you down), mounts, pets, location, and a handy local time/server time clock.  Mouseover any of the data on the info bar for a detailed popup window. Professions, for example, tells my level 1 alt he should get off his butt in the Exodar AH and farm Silverleaf if he wants to advance his herbalism. Then it tells him in which zones where to find the Silverleaf.
