Must-Have Addons for Cataclysm

These are some of my favourite addons for buying, selling and keeping track of my auctions and gold making online.
1. Auctioneer

The grand-daddy of them all, Auctioneer is modular, and lets you download the entire suite or just the parts that you need. It keeps track of auction data, makes the auction house easier to use and navigate, lets you search for items, sell, check prices, everything!
2. Auctionator

I’ve grown to love auctionator over the last few months because of its beautiful shopping lists that allow me to scan groups of items and compare their prices, buy exactly what I want for the right price, and easily post an item for the amount that I choose, rather than using appraiser.
3. Altoholic

Quite simply, altoholic lets me co-ordinate items, and trade skills across my alts and various characters. I can also check their bags, guild banks, all in a friendly user interface window.
4. TradeSkill Master

A relative newcomer to the addons, the modularity keeps it nice and lightweight. New features are planned, making it into an all singing all dancing buying crafting selling professions all-star.
5. Mysales

Sneaking in at number five is this nice little addon which offers less flexibility but more simplicity and usability than Beancounter, simply showing you what you have sold, to who, and for how much.
6. Orecrusher

Saving you time and energy with those fiddly spreadsheets such as the “one that killed them all” over at the Consortium Forums, Orecrusher lets you compare the cost prices of raw ore with the relative gold-making opportunity of prospecting and crafting.

7. Postal

Quite simply the current best mailbox addon, letting you retreive and post your items faster and with greater flexibility.
8. Pen and Paper
Funnily, there is no download for this one *grin*
For me, this is the best there is, and would be up at number one if I wasn’t so lazy sometimes. Nothing is better than keeping a handwritten note on your desk about items to watch, who to trade with, or anything else to do with buying selling and watching gold making.

Gatherer
Not strictly useful for auctioneering, this helps players who enjoy farming raw mats such as herbs and ore.
I particularly love the Heads Up Display which lets you fly or ride to the next node without consulting your map.

Ore Shuffle
OMG. How could I have ignored this amazing gold opportunity for so long? How did it take me until January to realise exactly how valuable and profitable the new ores could be?

Shows you expected results from prospecting and disenchanting, raw values, transmute value, and max profit values.
Pulls prices from Auctioneer or AuctionLite/Auctionator/AuctionMaster.
Which saves us time opening up our ore>gems>jewellery>disenchant mats>scrolls transmute spreadsheets, taking the guesswork out of “should I buy this ore at this price, and prospect it in order to make gold?”

What is a Shuffle?
In World of Warcraft, a “shuffle” is when you transform one item into another, aiming to add value. For example, buying ore, and creating jewellery.
The best shuffle is moving one item into another repeatedly, adding value at every stage, until you end up with something worth considerably more than you paid.

Nothing flashy, it just works.
How many times have we heard this, or used this phrase to reply to someone who wondered how much gold we could make and which is the best way?
Time management is integral to making gold, basically because we want to maximise our gold per hour, our bang-per-buck.
Our first lesson is, as Player Vs Auction House notes, why waste time doing boring and repetitive farming, searching for a single item that we need for something, when we can simply buy it on the AH.
He says “Since the AH has plenty at a subjectively reasonable price, if you really want to farm something, then farm something worth more – or easier to acquire – than Volatile Fire, sell it, and buy the Volatile Fire.”
Multitasking. Right now I’m writing an article at the same time as TSM is scrolling through my 1,000+glyphs searching for undercuts.
In the last few days, I’ve been cracking out over 5,000g per hour, every hour (which makes my pre-cataclysm 3.4k per day look pretty pathetic!) And so my earnings are really only limited by how many hours I want to work on this. At 5 hours a day, say an hour on each of 5 characters/toons, that’s over 9 million gold a year.
You can buy a lot with 9 million gold
With gold becoming so plentiful in Cataclysm, and the goldcap now reaching to 1 million, it’s time for us to update our question of “how much gold do you have?” to “how much gold can you make an hour?”

As well as Obsidium Ore on your snatch/search list, you should add the following:
- Cut Hessonites, Zephyrites and Alicites for less than 9g
- Stacks of bandages under vendor prices
- Frozen Orbs Under 5g – Dont vendor these, trade them in Dalaran for Arctic Fur or Eternal Fire depending on the prices and supply. <-still works in 2016!
- Primal Nether
- High Level Scroll of Enchant and other cataclysm crafted items selling for under their mats prices. Hoard these for later in the expansion.

The Obsidium Ore Shuffle
It’s been blogged about all across the gold-making community, and any self-respecting gold maker has already at least wondered what the impact on the cost of ore should be now that they have noticed that cut uncommon cataclysm gems vendor for 9g.
That’s the cut Alicite, Carnelian, Hessonite, Jasper, Nightstone and Zephyrite.
Put simply, it means that there is a fixed bottom limit on the cost of the ore from which these gems are prospected.
If you have a Jewelcrafter that can prospect and cut these gems, you should be setting up a snatch search on your Auctioneer addon to snatch all Obsidium Ore selling for under 55g per stack.
