Hello and welcome to the Gold Queen’s Darkmoon Faire Guide part three.

(please note, this guide was written in 2011. An updated guide is coming soon)

I’ll be focusing on four darkmoon vendors:

  • Flik
  • Professor Thaddeus Paleo
  • Gelvas Grimgate
  • Lhara

Flik is a small orc boy who sells wood frogs and tree frogs.  He runs around the Faire, but you can stop him in his tracks by clicking on him.  He will run ahead a few paces then turn back to you.  Tree Frogs sell well almost every day on AH, but especially outside normal DMF event times.  Wood Frogs are limited supply and you should be able to sell those for a higher price. They both cost 1g to buy.

Professor Thaddeus Paleo sells scrolls and potions and you may be able to make some gold flipping these, but be careful, check your AH data for current market prices.  The last thing you want to do is spend a small fortune on items that you list several times on AH and end up having to vendor!
Gelvas Grimgate is a goblin in a DMF tabard with his own tent.  He starts the DMF quests, where you can turn in the tickets for bags of loot.  As well as gold (my favourite!) you can get rare patterns and auctionable greens and blues.

A word of warning: don’t use your tickets to buy the Steam Tonk pattern.  As well as being BoP, engineers can now train this at a normal profession trainer, so don’t waste your time.

I have made a DMF Shopping List in Auctionator.  Copy the items into your own new shopping list and you can use the [Search for All Items] button to create a list in ascending order of price that you can exchange in various amounts for Darkmoon Faire Tickets. Collect these to claim your prize/s.

Finally, moving on to our last remarkable vendor, and undoubtedly the most important:

Lhara is our Darkmoon Gold Making Machine-ette! She has a huge list of limited supply trade items, and the vast majority will resell at a huge percentage profit.  There are just a few to look out for: Northrend Gems.  Don’t spend 50g just to get 2 x forest emeralds for example that will vendor for 6g.  (If you really want to throw your gold away, you can send it to me!)

But take Terocone for example.  Buy here for 20s.  They are currently selling for 3g each on my server.
You can’t say no to free gold!

Hello and welcome to the Gold Queen’s Darkmoon Faire Guide part two.

(please note, this guide was written in 2011. An updated guide is coming soon)
Today’s Darkmoon Faire focus is the new Cataclysm DMF cards. Let me introduce the new trinkets to you.

There are two Darkmoon Card: Hurricane with different stats.

These guys have great stats for players gearing up for their first Cataclysm raids.  Now that there is more gold circulating in the WoW Economy, and everyone being generally richer, these babies are going to be selling for a premium.  Expect to pay up to 40-50k for a completed deck or card this weekend. Here are today’s prices on my own server:

deckprices

If you can’t read the small print, you can just click the image for the full size picture.  As you can see they’re selling today from 5-27k.  There are also other decks for sale, and these are usually used by players who are doing the Insane in the Membrane Achievement / Feat of Strength.  It’s worth using your leftover hunters ink etc to craft these cards and decks if you spot a gap in the market on your own server/s.

singlecards

For the last week, I have been funnelling my profits, after crafting and re-stocking any glyphs that sell, into making Darkmoon Faire cards on my scribe.

I’m trying to get some full decks to sell this weekend.  I have one full deck already, and as you can see, I’m well on the way to making some more!

I’ll be spending the majority of today making new cards, as well as trying to finish up this guide for you.

Hello and welcome to the Gold Queen’s Darkmoon Faire Guide part one.

(please note, this guide was written in 2011 and is out of date. New guide coming soon!)

The DMF is a very under-used event in the gold-makers calender but can also be one of the most profitable. The Darkmoon Faire is held for a week, every month, on the first week. It takes 3 days to set up then opens on the Monday and stays for a week.  The location changes every month

You can visit a Darkmoon Faire in any location, whatever your allegiance, all factions start as neutral with the npcs.  Be careful if you are on a PVP server and you travel to a location deep inside enemy country.
The next Darkmoon Faire is happening in Shattrath on 6th February 2011.  You can find the dates of the next DMFs in your in-game calender.  [ Incidentally, meet my main auctioneer character.  He’s a dwarf who thinks he’s a blood elf! ]

The next Darkmoon Faire is going to be the most important in Cataclysm because it will be the peak time for turning DMF cards into decks and trinkets which are the best pre-raid trinkets for a lot of players. By next month there will be a lot more settled guilds and raiding will have taken off to such an extent that the value of the cards will be coming back down.

Time is Money Friend

This post has been written for the monthly JMTC Blogging Carnival. This month’s topic is: How would you make gold if you had limited play time?

Time is money friend, and whilst we can make virtually unlimited virtual gold in World of Warcraft, time is something we cannot reproduce, trade, buy, watch, or scan.

This is actually a very personal question, because it’s about how we prioritise our time, which actions are the most important to us, and which goals do we want to achieve.  Do we really just want the most possible gold?  Is the gold making work for us, or play? Do we enjoy gold making?  It’s all very well putting into place efficient routines to maximise the amount we get from the time we put in, but is it really worth all this WORK if we don’t actually enjoy it? So what do we enjoy?

Yeah, that makes it all about psychology and priorities and motivation, rather than about work-time efficiency.

Time to get out our Pareto Principle!

The Pareto principle (also known as the 80-20 rule) states that, for many events, roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes. (Wikipedia)

You know the one: you only use 20% of the stuff on your desk/in your wardrobe or more especially for me, I only wear 20% of my shoes, 80% of them get stuffed in the wardrobe behind 80% of the handbags I never use, either.  Not that I even go in the wardrobe, because I only wear 20% of my clothes, which are mostly strewn over various chairs / the floor, like any self-respecting geek.
How does this apply to our gold making?  It means that 80% of our gold comes from 20% of our efforts.  I think you know what I mean. When you see someone selling Vial of the Sands for 30k and buy and resell for 50k, or the Glyphmas (patch 4.0) mess-up with Glyph of Mage Armor.  But the problem is that we cannot know which item is a bargain, compared to our normal server prices if we do not keep track of the market price of the items.  That’s why mmo champion and the current Patch Notes are the most important thing you can read if you are going to be a proper gold maker.
I’m gonna say that again in case you’re a TLDR:  Know your market.

magearm

You can mess around with all the flipping of copper ore from 10s to 15s each you like, you can buy but the real gold is in knowing when to grab a real bargain, and knowing who you can sell it to, and how much you can charge.  And that only comes from playing the game, and from loving the game.
Happy gaming, guys.

Oh dear.
Seems our little secret ore > gold shuffler has been spotted and just been broadcast to just about every WoW player.   Ore Crusher addon was just featured on MMO Champion website, making 5,000g per hour now available and obvious to the general warcraft population.  Whilst in itself, its great that so many people will profit from this, and there will therefore be more gold floating around on the servers, giving the players bigger and better spending power, it seems my (second) favourite late night activity is no longer viable. Expect to no longer find any cheap ore on your AH.

It’s put me on a kind of a downer today, especially as I logged on to find I had one solitary overnight sale as someone undercut me on every single one of my glyphs.

Perhaps its time to look at my other professions and diversify!  Any recommendations for a grumpy Gold Queen?

Hi Murray, thank you for joining us at Gold Queen!

Who are you in game?
Hi, right now I’m Hanahir, a night elf warrior, a miner on Nessingwary (US), he was the very first character I ever rolled and I still have him, and when I started playing him, I bought guide. I was still in the area where you are born, Teldrassil, and I found a guide before I left there because I like to know whats going on, I hate failing!  And so, I got a guide before I got out the of the original area. I got Dugi’s levelling guide and Zygor’s levelling guide, and they were great, they were good.  I didn’t follow it consistently, I refered to it, I got sidetracked too much! It’s a good way to jump ahead, but I was just enjoying this game, I just love this game.

Why do you enjoy making gold?
Because when you’ve got a bunch of gold in your purse its easy!  When you want something that’s really gonna boost your hp or whatever and you want to enhance that, or you want to buy gems etc, you don’t have to sit there and think “Jeeeez i dont have enough gold”, you can say “it’s gonna cost 150g, np I got it!”

Why did you start making gold?
After I left Teldrassil and got to Darnassus if I got my first 1g! I was just so happy.  A lot of times you’re picking up a copper here, a copper there, and I thought look at these people with this gear and I got into the auction house and realised I gotta start selling my stuff here and look at all this stuff and I can’t buy it, I can get bags here and I can’t buy it yet.  I looked through Google and stuff and thats when I starting finding these guides and I must have spent a couple of months looking through the guides.  I was most interested in content for my dollar spent, value, and so that’s when I went with Jonathans guide because what I saw at that time was Jonathan’s guide was probably the best out there so I went with his guide and I’ve had no regrets.

bank_error_in_your_favor

What was the best deal you ever made?
That is areally hard question, but I think it was 65 elementium bars for 2s 25c. When I bid on it, I just went in the auction, I thought “why dont I do a resale search” and the first screen, I found all these elementium bars, and the bid was nothing, so I bid on them all, there was no way I was gonna win this, it was way too valuable, but lo and beold the next morning all these elementium bars in the mailbox, and I was amazed and dumfounded! The moral of the story is bid on absolutely everything!
