[This post is written as part of Cold’s Gold Blogging Carnival for February 2011.]
I know you’re expecting a list of addons and how to install them and what to watch out for, but I figure you can find that information fairly easily on the internet these days. I think the best way of learning about the Addons is either through personal coaching, or from movies on Youtube.
Here are my top 3 pieces of advice to a new gold maker:

1 Scan the Auction House by Hand / Eye

There is nothing as powerful as knowing the state of your own server’s economy. Your friends on other servers might implore you to invest in Greater Celestial Essence, but that is absolutely no use to you if their prices are rock bottom on your home server. Skimming AH quickly throughout the day helps you get to know about the current supply.
We have a tendency as auctioneers and gold makers to ignore this piece of advice as we become more settled into our daily gold routines. We depend on our addons and click buy and sell andœsearch for resale without giving any real thought into what the hell we’re doing. Taking a few minutes to connect with your economy at grass roots level is essential. If you’re out of touch with the supply levels and prices, you’re going to completely fail at making any significant amounts of gold.

2 Watch Trade Chat

Another absolute essential, watching trade chat teaches us so many things. How busy is the server? What items are in demand and for what prices? What sort of players do you have: casuals, hardcore raiders, or loads of PVPers? Is there a rising trend for a particular type of item, enchantment, or gem?
Business is the art of listening to your customer, discovering his problems, and solving them.
If you turn off your trade chat, you turn off your customer.

3 Look at Your Professions
The third top advice I’d give to a new gold maker is to look at your professions. Now we’re found the supply levels, and know what are the demands, it’s up to us to fill the gap. Which professions do you have? What can you craft? Are they maxed up to 525 and have you bought all the recipes and patterns from Twilight Highlands?
Now decide how can you use your professions to provide what the players want. Perhaps decide to craft one particular expensive item, such as vial of the sands, or you could choose the walmart route and craft hundreds of cheaper and faster selling items.
Either way, you should also take the time to look at the professions of all your characters and see if they can supply and support each other. Build up a crafting chain such as a tailor making items to send to your disenchanter.
Three short useful tips for the new gold maker, I hope they help you.

Lyrics

Auction House
While I’m still online
I’ll scan just one more time
To make sure no one else has me undercut

I am one of those
Obsessive auctioneers
Just watching for the best deals on the market

Sometimes I buy out everything
And then repost in stacks of three
My bank is filling up
But I can’t get enough
Oh I’m addicted to the Auction House

I did a bunch of quests
The rewards were not the best
I just don’t get all the gold that I want

I went to a raid
Spent hours of my day
Just racking up a massive repair bill

But when I buy and sell like this
I’m making gold hand over fist
It all keeps piling up
I think I’ll double up
Oh I’m addicted to the Auction House

Trading from my phone
So I’ll never be out-bid

Hello if you have just started reading the Gold Queen.com!

Let’s talk about you. I know you’re not a nub.
You’ve played world of warcraft, you’ve made 20,000g in WOTLK, you’ve maybe killed the Lich King, you’ve got a few alts, you know some sweet herb or ore mining spots. You know how to download addons, you only buy cheap stuff from the AH, you’re careful with your gold.
Now Cataclysm has hit and gold is literally tumbling into your pockets, you made thousands from levelling alone, and you’ve got your first character to 85, working on some alts, looking at your professions, and you’re wondering why you can’t get over 100,000g. As fast as you gain it from selling your raw mats in AH, advertising your enchants on /trade or running pugs for BoE epics, gold is trickling from your pockets too. Expensive gems, raw materials for crafted items, enchants, and the price of flasks has only just come down so you can afford more than one a night!
There’s someone in your guild, or a friend of a friend, who apparently has more money than a GM, all the mounts, including the Vial of the Sands, always has spare flasks, and when you ask them how they did it, they lol and brag about lucky drops or tell you a confusing or seemingly time-consuming strategy. You know it will never work for you, unless you put in a whole lot of research, time and effort. Ugh, no thanks.

I’m that person in your guild. I’ve spent the last year or two hearing “how much do you have?” or “how can I make that much, can you teach me?” and my answer was yes, I’d be happy to tell you, as long as you don’t come and undercut all my brilliant inferno rubies in AH, lol. The problem was that I didn’t have the time to tell all the people who wanted my advice, and when new ideas, content or addons came out, I couldn’t keep them all up to date. In 2010, I became very well known as a gold-maker, the richest person on my server, and the person to come to if you wanted gems crafted, or a good deal on rare items, flasks, or so. Whisperers, friends and strangers, would always ask me how I did it and when I told them or gave them tips or ideas they demanded that I write a blog or a gold-making guide.

That’s what TheGoldQueen.com is.
lj-wow-gnomedance3Let me just introduce myself for a moment, I’ll be brief. I have 7 level 80+s spanning 3 different servers in the EU. I’ve been playing in a top raid guild since Spring 2006, with over 10,000 achievement points on my main, including Light of Dawn. Making gold since The Burning Crusade, I’m still searching for a way to measure it properly. I made 240k+ pure profit in one week last year. I love that I can buy anything I want, whenever I want.
I’m a nice girl, though, and I’m not selling you a thing. No charge for this blog, no gold making guide for $$$ per month. Nada.
What would I like from you in return for me spilling my warcraft gold making secrets? Well, if you ever want to buy a gold guide, use my links, I might earn a few pennies from the affiliates links. Best of all though: leave me your comments and questions on my posts.
Take care, happy gaming,

No blog posts from me today, but I wrote a page About Me, and more importantly About You!
I’m writing a blog post up for the next Patch 4.06 Good news for Jewelcrafters, Gold-makers/AH hounds, for epic gear crafters, for people who want 26 slot bags, and for Scribes who are fed up porting to Dalaran for their ink trader!

Talk to you tomorrow, enjoy your day on Warcraft!

The end of a long day working on my new blog design/theme (pink and girly!) and in the Auction House.  Due to the Cataclysm Obsidium Shuffle my poor alt’s bags were heaving with gems, and I ended up buying a new guild bank tab to store all the gems that I prospected.

jctoken

Today’s jewelcrafting daily was Nibbler! No! which required jewelcrafters to cut three zephyrites and hand them in to the quest giver.

I decided to post my zephyrites on AH for 27g each, 3 times their normal price.  I was undercut by quite a few people, posting their zephyrites in stacks of 1s, 2s or 10s.

Because I had posted my zephyrites in stacks of 3, they sold quicker and at a higher price than the cheaper zephyrites that had undercut me. Buyers couldn’t be bothered to click three times to buy singles, and they don’t want to buy 10 and have to resell the other 7.

zephyrite
They want their zephyrites packaged nicely, ready for retail!

Now I’ve sold them all, time to prospect some more ore!

Hello and welcome to the Gold Queen’s Darkmoon Faire Guide part four.

(please note, this guide was written in 2011. An updated guide is coming soon)

This is the last of a 4 part series on making gold using the Darkmoon Faire.

What’s a female night elf to do after a long hard week of playing the AH and milking the DMF for gold?  Relax, and enjoy the fun that Blizzard have put into the Faire, and if you’re lucky you might find a random little surprise or two.  Read on to find out what it is!

Steam Tonks
DMF operates free remote-controlled steam tonks where you and your opponent can blow each other up.

The Big Cannon
Seen both at Elwynn and Mulgore, try your hand as a human cannonball sailing across the skies on golden wings aimed towards a target.

Sayge’s Fortunes
Sayge is a gnoll found at DMF, he asks you two questions and gives you a 2 hour buff depending on your answer.  Wowpedia has a nice guide on what to choose depending on which buff you want for your char. We’re less interested in the buff than in the surprise:

fortune

Surprise!
First, a confession, I didn’t actually know about this surprise until I started my in-depth research for Darkmoon Faire this week.  When you are given a ‘fortune’ by Sayge, and open it, there is the chance of starting a quest.  It leads you to a lockbox with some food/drinks and a chance of a green, so if you are hanging around in Darkmoon Faire waiting on respawning items from Lhana, maybe you should take a chance  with Sayge.

Jubling
I’ve left the little Jubling to last.  He’s a frog pet that you can collect from completing the quest given by Morja. Wowpedia says:

In order to receive this quest, you must first purchase 2 mugs of Dark Iron Ale. The Dark Iron Ale Mugs can be purchased from Plugger Spazzring, the bartender of the Grim Guzzler in Blackrock Depths. They are also available on a table near Plugger, but looting them will make him hostile (and hence no longer a vendor). So buy what he has before stealing them from the tables. If you do this quest with a party, you’ll need one mug for the party and one for each participant. The fastest way to get to the Grim Guzzler is to ask for a portal from someone who has [Direbrew’s Remote].

Once you have obtained the mugs, go to Morja at the Darkmoon Faire, right click on the [Dark Iron Ale Mug], target Morja and place a mug at her feet. In a few seconds, her pet frog Jubjub will return to her to lap up the ale and you’ll be able to obtain the quest/reward. Note that the beer on the ground stays active for a minute or two allowing multiple characters to turn in a beer to get the reward.

darkironmug

The pet is nice if you are a pet collector like me, but also an opportunity for gold makers.  Collect a bag-full of Dark Iron Ale from BRD, and post them singularly on AH.  They will sell better if you bark in trade that they are there, link to Jubling, and let them know that they can be used at the Darkmoon Faire to get the pet.  Don’t link the price on trade channel, you don’t want to get involved in a flame war about how you are supposedly a “nub” or a “scammer” because you picked up the item from in BRD.  You’re neither, you’re an opportunist.  If someone wants the pet, then they won’t mind paying a few gold to spare them the travel to BRD to pick up the mug!
