Children’s Week in World of Warcraft will be celebrated between 1st May and 7th May. At the time of posting, that’s 6 weeks in the future, but you’re going to come back to me in May and say “aunty gold queen I’m so glad you reminded me to get prepared in time!”
Children’s Week is the time of giving back to the children made orphans by the wars in Azeroth, and seasonal quests are centred around Stormwind and Orgrimmar. Since the original Children’s Week, two further orphan matrons were added in Shattrath and in Dalaran. To most players, Children’s Week is famous for two things: dragging a child around various sights around the world, and being killed repeatedly in battlegrounds trying to achieve the more difficult of the achievements.
To gold makers and the businessmen of World of Warcraft though, Children’s week presents a unique opportunity to cash in on the players who are trying to complete the seasonal achievements.
The achievement ‘Bad Example‘ requires you to stuff your face with sweets and cake in front of your starving orphan. Some of the items are easily obtainable, others are going to be much rarer, and that’s where we’re going to set to work to make a shedload of gold.
You’re going to need:
- Tigule and Foror’s Strawberry Ice Cream
- Red Velvet Cupcake
- Lovely Cake Slice
- Dalaran Doughnut
- Tasty Cupcake
- Delicious Chocolate Cake
- Dalaran Brownie
You can get the red velvet cupcake, dalaran donut, dalaran brownie and lovely cake from the cake vendor at the northern bank in Dalaran, and the icecream from a childrens week vendor at the banks in Stormwind and Orgrimmar.
The tasty cupcakes and delicious chocolate cake needs to be cooked by a chef with the recipes. If you don’t have them yet, you could either work on getting them by Children’s Week, or you could find a friend or business partner to cook for you, preferably now before they get cheesed off making all the cakes that will be in demand in a few weeks. All the ingredients are found easily enough at cooking vendors or innkeepers, with two exceptions.

small eggs big profits
Cooking Profession for Profit
Tasty Cupcake needs northern eggs. These are currently cheap on the AH, so you may want to buy them now in order to make the cakes and sell them later, or you might want to stop there and just resell the eggs for a huge profit instead.
Delicious Chocolate Cake needs Mageroyal and Small eggs. Mageroyal is mostly cheap on the auction house, and this is a good time to stock up. Small eggs are notoriously volatile. (New elemental, Volatile Eggs, anyone? hehe) So you must start grabbing the cheap small eggs now, unless you want to be stuck farming vultures in Westfall until kingdom come.
With each cake needing 8 small eggs each, and eggs selling for between 1 and 10g each, you’re going to be able to charge a fortune for the chocolate cake once you made them.
It’s basically your choice, and depends on your server, whether you try and sell the raw mats, the cooked cakes, or whether you want to try my other suggested strategy:
Buy and package a bundle together of all the cakes and candy plus your tasty cupcake and delicious chocolate cake – everything you need to complete the achievement and advertise it for sale as a whole package on Trade Chat. Of course, this depends on your skills at barking in trade chat.
/2 WTS all the cakes and candy for [Bad Example] including tasty cupcake and choc cake. 250g for full package!
Please comment if you’re going to use this strategy, or come back in mid May and tell me how much gold you made?

Making Warcraft Gold With Glyphs
Part two of the How to Make Gold With series
Today I will focus on Glyph making with my Inscription character on World of Warcraft.
This is a graphics intensive post, and I have shrunk some of the images. Click the images for the full size.
Inscription Agenda for the day:
- Deal with overnight sales.
- Cancel undercut glyphs.
- Repost undercut glyphs.
- Restock glyphs into inventory.
- Craft and post glyphs.
- Continue to occasionally scan for and react to undercutting across the Auction House.
- Profit!
Grab The Gold
The first thing I need to do is pick up the gold from the glyphs that sold overnight.
I will send my overnight earnings across to my main along with any other drips of gold that I earn throughout the day, as I earn them. Sometimes small amounts such as 100g, sometimes a larger blast of a few thousand.
I keep a small amount of gold on the scribe so I can buy inscription mats (herbs and parchment) after I have finished dealing with yesterday’s work.
I run into the Auction House and see that I have quite a lot of glyphs unsold on the AH.
Using Trade Skill Master, I can cancel the glyphs that have been undercut.
363 out of about a thousand posted glyphs is quite reasonable.
Get Cancelled Glyphs
I start picking up the cancelled glyphs in the mail using Postal addon. There they are.
Sell Glyphs
Trade Skill Master takes very little time to post all the glyphs at the prices I want.
The Glyph prices have a wide range, from around 35g to 200g.
Glyphs sell according to whether they are needed, and whether your glyph is the cheapest currently listed.
Players generally do not wait around to buy a glyph another day. They want their glyphs immediately and will simply buy the cheapest available.
Buy Herbs
Time to buy some herbs from the Auction House now!
To make some Ethereal Ink, I check the lowest prices out of all the Outland herbs available on the Auction House.
Auctionator shopping lists let me compare the prices of all the herbs from Outland, and then I can simply buy a whole bunch of the cheapest herbs.
I can repeat this using Auctionator shopping lists, or use the Trade Skill Master shopping facility to buy the mats I need.
(Don’t forget, you can click any image to see the full size!)
Milling Macro for Scribes
I pick up the herbs in my mailbox with Postal addon, and use my milling macro to mill all the herbs I’ve bought.
/cast Milling
/use (herb name)
/use (another herb name)
The pigment is turned into ink with a ‘create all’ button from the Profession > Inscription window.
Restock Glyph Inventory
Now that all of yesterday’s glyphs have been reposted, I can take stock of my inventory and see which glyphs I need to remake.
Click ‘restock queue’ in Trade Skill Master to populate and fill the list of glyphs that you need to craft to fill the place of those sold overnight or since the last time they were posted.
Total Mats cost estimated at 73g and estimated profit at 6,200g is not a bad return on investment (ROI)!
The red materials are those that are not in my inventory and that I will need to buy. I start crafting with the ‘craft next’ button on Trade Skill Master.
Green glyphs can be crafted immediately, blue glyphs show one or more of the requested glyph can be made but not all. Red glyphs are those that have no materials at all.
Sometimes I am so busy with cancelling, reposting, crafting, taking stock, milling, picking up mail, and sending gold across to my main, that I have to multi-task and do two things at once. Here I’m crafting 21 Midnight Ink and picking up the undercut and cancelled glyphs for reposting
Using these just-in-time methods, I can keep approximately 1,000 glyphs (sometimes more sometimes less) on the Auction House at all times at the lowest prices.
From time to time, I continue to scan for undercuts, cancel them and repost at the cheapest prices.
If I’m now satisfied that I have got all the glyphs I want on the Auction House at the prices that I want, I can happily leave them ticking away and spend an hour or so doing something more interesting like Jewelcrafting or running an instance, or finishing daily quests. I’ll come back and check for undercuts periodically throughout the day.
Selling Vendor Items on the Auction House
Another great seller today has been a couple of items you can buy from the vendor
Profit: 4g 73s each
Profit: 1g 25s each
I have blurred the buyer’s names to spare their embarrassment!
Gold made with Glyphs
Opening Accountant addon later in the day, I can see how much I have made on my scribe today by sorting to the ‘day’ and choosing the name of the scribe from the character list.
The poor guy, I’ve only left him with 40s 27c profit for his work, but he’s mailed over 10,000g to my main.
Because Inscription is almost entirely automated with the addons, I can count Inscription as a residual income.
Making glyphs continues to make gold for me day after day.

Bagnon is a great addon to manage banks and bags across all your characters.
- Items are colour coded based on Quality (Purple, blue, green, white)
- All your bags display as 1 bag to make finding items alot easier plus the frame is moveable as well.
- This is the same for the bank as well.
You can search alts very easily and see what they have in there bags as well. This can also be used as above with banks as well. So if you are a crafter with lots of materials spread across your alts its an easy way of tracking them.
Very nice addon and very simple and light to use. You only need to log into each of your characters once for bagnon to remember what character has what 🙂

This is my personal list of world of warcraft bloggers who have influenced me in my gold making and in my blog posts recently.
When I first started my blog over at thegoldqueen.blogspot.com I was responding to requests from server mates (hello <Devotion> at Steamwheedle Cartel EU!) who wanted to know my gold making methods. I had no idea how to post or what to post, and the first few posts were actually fairly private, simple celebrations for completing self-made achievements in gold making. I was reading the blog of a guild mate who was charting our PVE progression that influenced me to make that first post.
Over the last 6 months (has it really been that long) I began to surf from one gold-making blog to another, following the links on the blog roll and discovered not only a tight community of friends, but a group of quality writers, skilled gold makers, and bloggers who listened to the problems of their readers. I was privileged to be included on their bloglists as my writing style has developed and matured. For reasons why you should just go ahead and start a blog, even though you don’t think you’re a writer, see The Illuminated Mind and why it’s important to fail.
All the blogs I’ve listed are in Alphabetical order, because none is ‘better’ than another, they each offer a different perspective. I’ve also kept the list very short because it’s a list of bloggers who have influenced me personally. There are a growing number of gold blogs of constantly rising quality that are supportive of each other.
My blogroll outgrew the space available in my sidebar, so I made them their own resources page.
MySales and Accountant are two addons that are often recommended for players who want to track the gold they make in World of Warcraft Auction House. They’re both basic tools.
MySales addon
When you open your mail, MySales keeps track of who bought your auctions and can display the informing in a table. MySales lists the number of sales and money earned since it was installed. There is an option to remove old data plannned for the future.
Mysales has three window panes, inside which you can reorder the displayed data table for easier reading.
- Sales. Order data by item name, money made per sale (income, not profit), buyer name or chronological order
- Buyers. Order buyers alphabetically, by number of items they bought, or total amount of gold they’re paid you.
- Items. Order item names alphabetically, by amount sold, by total money made from items with that name, or by money made per sale of that item.
Where to get it: Download MySales addon from Curse
Popularity: 6,452 downloads from Curse
Function: type /ms window to open table display.
Pros: Simple, easy to understand, easy to install, easy to read lists, lists easy to order.
Cons: No minimap button. Buyers name missing may be due to opening mail too fast. Gives only an overview of what has sold, to whom, and for how much.
Accountant addon
Accountant addon basically tracks your income and expenses in warcraft, including your sales from the Auction house. It also keeps track of the amount you receive or spend on vendor items, taxi fares, direct trade with another character, mailing costs, and other sources. It also tracks how much gold you have in total, across all your characters.
It’s possible to track data for each character, or a total for all characters.
This means you can buy an item with one char, sell it with another, and yet see the profit made across your entire account.
Piggy Bank. The Cache feature allows you to hide a certain amount of gold from the addon. This could be used if you had 100,000g and wanted to keep 80,000g aside, and only use 20,000g to trade. You would type 80,000g into the cache, which hides it from view, but does not change your actual amount in hand. You could then see how much gold you had earned using only the 20,000g as your working cash amount.
Where to get it: Download Accountant Addon from Curse
Popularity: 48,839 downloads from Curse.
Fuction: click the Accountant minimap icon.
Pros: Very easy to use, although changing options with tabs and dropdown lists is more complicated than MySales.
Cons: You must log in to each character before it can be shown in Accountant. If your alt holds all your gold and you don’t log it in, you won’t see that amount included in the total. You cannot see who has bought which item from AH or for how much. Can’t track what item/s you spent gold on.
