What is an Addon?
An Addon is a small independent script which modifies and enhances World of Warcraft. There are addons for raiding (deadly boss mods), addons for changing your hotbar (bartender) and addons for the virtual economy, which help you organise professions, inventory and for making gold in the Auction House. Curse Gaming provide a free client for easy addon management.
Is Trade Skill Master the first Addon I need for making gold in the Auction House?
The first addon to install is usually Auctioneer, which could be described as the first steps in using addons for gold making.
Trade Skill Master can be used alone, or as a second, intermediate level addon.
What is Trade Skill Master?
TSM is a suite of addon modules that can be used together or singularly. Using the modular approach allows the player to load only the parts they want, and decide how much memory they want to dedicate to the addon. The modular suite gives players control over the size of the addon.
TSM is still in Beta, and some modules are not yet completed. Others work very well and continue to be developed and improved.
Considering the age of the add on (TSM is only a few months old), TSM has very quickly become the essential addon for crafting, buying and selling in the Auction House.
Trade Skill Master is an upgrade from
- Auction Profit Master
- Scroll Master
- Skillet
- Kevtool Queue (KTQ)
- Lil’ Sparkys Workshop
- Altoholic
- Snatch from Auctioneer

First Steps in Trade Skill Master Modules
Crafting, Auctioning and Shopping modules all work very well together as a starting point. Players can view a list of their craftable recipes, and choose manually or automatically to generate a list of profitable items, up to their choice of maximum number of each.
At the Auction House, the Shopping module connects between the list of materials needed, and the materials available to buy. Checking the cost price, click to buy the materials, or skip to the next option.
With the materials now retrieved from the mail, go straight ahead with crafting the list of items and return to the Auction House to post.
Trade Skill Master allows fast posts of individual items. In the way the retired addon Auction Profit Master (APM) which was in itself an upgrade from Quick Auctions (QA) created groups of items, TSM also lets players group items together ready for pricing and auctioning. This works exceptionally well with glyphs, for example, where you are certain of a minimum price (perhaps around 25-35g each) and a maximum price (perhaps 80g or up to 200g depending on your personal preferences) and are sure of the amount by which you want to undercut.
Using the Macro
A brilliant new feature of Trade Skill Master is the ability to post individual posts using a macro which acts as click of the Auction button or the Cancel button. With the macro bound to a forwards or backwards ‘click’ of the mouse wheel, you can scroll back and forth with the mouse wheel in order to bulk post or bulk cancel when your items have been undercut and you need to repost.
From the Trade Skill Master FAQs
Our addon packages are designed to be fully compliant with Blizzard’s terms of service. We strive to provide you with an addon that will make things easier for you and improve your gaming experience. We will always be against use of any 3rd party hardware / software that violates Blizzard’s terms of service. We STRONGLY encourage any official blizzard representatives to get hold of us if there are any issues before blacklisting our addon.
It is no longer possible to post all your auctions with one click. Blizzard has deliberately blocked the ability to post multiple auctions. TSM makes the process of posting each individual item as fast as possible.

It’s the beginning of April, means a couple of things for us:
1 – Did you fall for my April Fools joke? Damn it would be hell if I couldn’t use my level one alts on the AH!
2 – It’s Darkmoon Faire time! This time we’re in Mulgore. You can read my Darkmoon Faire guide here, beginning with part 1 of 4. I hope this month’s Darkmoon Faire will be profitable for you.

4.1: Level 1 bank alts will no longer be able to use the World of Warcraft Auction House, if plans by Blizzard-Activision are pushed through.
Despite a protest on the battle.net PTR forum, Blizz seem set to force through this change which means our level 1 alts will not be able to post, and you will have to use a level 85 character in order to use a max level AH.
Blizzard Blizzard received positive feedback to the minimum item level for dungeon heroics, and will be implementing a change in minimum level to 85 and minimum item level in order to use the Auction House. Your faction Auction House was always meant to be only for the majority of players with the right item level. With this change, gold farmers and players who use the Auction House as a mini game will need to get an average item level in order to interact with the economy. Minimum item level will be 360 which we feel is the right level for the trade economy to ensure a quality experience. World of Warcraft Remote Auction House will remain unaffected by these changes. We’re very happy with the challenges that lie ahead for players wishing to use the Auction House.
Blizz have obviously been waiting to do this since the day they changed the wait time for payments from AH items from instant to 1 hour. Personally, it’s going to be a royal pain in the backside to change all my auctions from my level 1 and 5 bank alts (ex bank alts now, gasp!) to my main, which is the only level 85 I have with the minimum item level gear score.
What does this mean for you?
You need to either
- Level your bank alt to 85 and buy BoE Epics until you get 360 gear score; or
- Use your main as your banker

A beginner’s gold-making equation:
Item + your value = more valuable item.
therefore
more valuable item – original item value = how much you are worth.
The very basic rule of making gold in World of Warcraft is
Increase the amount that you are worth.
Examples:
Cloth + your tailoring = tailored item
5g+U=10g.
U=5g
OR
Player wanting portal + you casting a portal = he pays you 20g
U=20g
OR
You buy 5 items 25g total + you resell them on AH = You make 50g
U=25g
You are worth 25g (per “X amount of time”.) If you do something worth less than 25g, you’re wasting yourself!
- A player whispers you “Can you portal me to Dalaran for 20g?” If you do the portal for him then your value decreases by 5g. You lose 5g that you could have been making in the time you took to make him a portal.
- This is why I use my time to put 20 pre-made items on AH instead of flying all over the world finding a player and making him a single item for a tip. Either that, or I’m just unsociable.
I want to use my time to do the activities that increase the amount that I’m worth.
Another equation for you, as I’m in the Math mood
item resale value – original item price = U > selling price of ore you could mine during that time
Translated that means You are worth a hell of a lot more than running around farming crap.
How much Gold are you worth?

In response to Just My Two Copper’s Blog Carnival “How would you make Gold with no capital?”
I’m going to offer you three different ways to make gold from nothing. I’m going to assume that
- You are a beginner gold maker
- You have less than ten gold in your pockets
- You have no professions, or you don’t have a real understanding of using your professions.
- You want to earn 1,000g in your first week
- You have over an hour’s play time per day, but you don’t want to die of boredom.
Farming has had a bad rep over the last few years. Usually because of gold sellers / hacks / botting, where you find a character repeating the same mind-numbing path in a high-profit zone picking up loot from mobs, killing and skinning creatures, or gathering ore and herbs. Â Woah, back up a minute there, did you say ‘high profit’ ? There’s a clue to why they choose that spot to farm. Â No capital is needed to go and simply lift gold off mobs bodies, rip the gold from them in the form in leather, or grab gold from ore or herb nodes. Â If you were walking in your street and you found a pile of money just lying on the floor, you’d pick it up. Â That’s exactly the same as mining, skinning, or herbalism. Â So grab yourself a mining pick, skinning knife, or just a sword to slit the throats of innocent passing mobs, and lift the gold straight into your backpack. Did I mention you also get XP? What’s not to like.
Download gatherer from Curse, it’s part of my new Gold Queen gold making Addon Pack It will let you track ore and herbs on your map and minimap.
Resell under-priced items from the Auction House. This is a lazy man’s way to gold. Â You don’t even have to move far, unless the walk to the mailbox is too much effort. Jon Kenins from Massive Gold Blueprint teaches this as his “pipelines” method, but you can take a sneak peak at some of his “pipelines of the day” on twitter @secretwarcraft. Â Whilst you’re over there, come and meet me @thegoldqueen
How you do it: Pretty simple, look for an item that is listed for sale on the Auction House that you think will re-sell for a higher price. Â Some of my favourites: Â Mageroyal, Volatile Air, Runecloth

From www.redbubble.com
You can make gold by questing. Once you hit the level cap, you can start repeating daily quests. Â Not only do these give you straight gold, but some of them can give you reputation gains, or in the cases of the fishing and cooking dailies, you can increase your profession skill level. Â Take out your weapon or spell of choice and get questing. Â Wowhead can give you a guide to completing the quest of your choice, or you could google for ‘daily quest guides’. I believe the major wow-guide sellers include dailies in their information packs.
To recap, three ways you can make gold from nothing are: farming, reselling, and questing. Â When you do have a little more gold, though, I suggest that you invest in yourself by buying some profession training.

Lucky me, the builders have gone now. They left my house a mess (if you’re reading this, builders, I’m shaking my fist at you and writing an Angry Letter!)
So how did I do?
- I was able to get online a lot more than I thought.
- I wrote 3 posts from my desk in the center of the “war zone”.
- I managed to log on
twothree of my characters, pick up gold and repost what was in my bags - I got undercut on 566 glyphs whilst I was offline. bah
- I chatted to a GM about his gold making (he was a miner, apparently)
me: blah blah blah blah blah…
What didn’t I do?
- Couldn’t craft anything new.  I foresee a lot of  prospecting and milling in the future. Maybe some smelting 🙁
- Didn’t get to check my other characters
- Didn’t do my dailies, or my heroic dungeon. No pve or pvp.
- Didn’t have much time to read my email or forums. Doh!
- Haven’t written anything for JMTC blog carnival.
Here’s  how much gold I made:
(For those of you watching in black and white, it’s 10k.)
