Did you stockpile Truegold for 4.2?
Did you count your chickens before they hatched?

I’m seeing something interesting in my home server about prices of Truegold in 4.2
Truegold prices climbed before the patch, as players stockpiled, then peaked about 6 hours after the 4.2 release, and fell slowly but surely back to pre-4.2 prices. And today I started to see Truegold for sale in the AH at prices below the previous prices.
What I saw was players stockpiling, then artificially driving the prices high in a delirium of greed, then panicking wildly as everyone else did the same and the prices dropped, before finally throwing their entire stock at the Auction House for ultra low prices in desperation!
So that’s why I’m buying a few truegold bars today at under value prices, and will resell them over the coming fortnight at just over their normal value. If you missed the sales peak, please check your server for price crashes where players have panicked and are selling their stockpiled items for under their correct value. A few days ago I saw one player in Dalaran merrily transmuting dozens of dream emeralds in the hope of selling them for a fortune after the patch comes. I wonder how they feel now, with no rise in Dream Emerald prices.
Euripedes of WoWinsider has noticed it too.
Please don’t go crazy though and buy truegold at your server’s normal price and hope it will suddenly magically surge in a few days, just look for the normal peaks and troughs in the price wave and sell a few at a time at a good price.
My forecast for Truegold prices: a slump as players panic sell their stock, then a slow and bumpy drive upwards as the new patterns become available over the coming 4-6 weeks.

Gems
“where can we buy new jc epic gems?”
“there are none”
“ah I thot epic gems comin”
“epic gems havent been released yet”
Genuine quotes from my guild chat about five minutes ago. srsly
What you can get though, is thousands and thousands of gold, and I’m not exaggerating, because if patch 4.0 was “Glyphmas” then 4.2 today has been “Gemmas”! With some cut gem prices doubling, others have increased for example from 9g to 99g each. Â Unfortunately I dont think this will be a long term sustainable surge in prices, because with the floor price of ore coming down, the raws costs will be coming down in turn. Â What we’re seeing is the normal increased surge for gear enhancements that you can find on your server every time there is new content.
In my server auction house there is a run on Inferno Rubies, with competing sellers driving prices down, so I have gone for purples and orange gems, which are selling extremely well.
Gear Enhancement in Firelands
We’re looking at increases in prices for:
* Enchanting, especially for Cloaks. Â Epic cloaks are the reward from Mount Hyjal / Firelands pre-quest chain, so the majority of the 85s who are online today are going to want a new cloak enchant. There are also BoE epics dropping from trash-farming raid groups in Firelands.
* Leg armor from Leatherworkers (check the vendor for a new LW pattern for your legs called Drakehide Leg Armor)
* Spellthreads from tailoring
You get the picture – everything that you need when you get new gear, which is currently raining from the sky like a birthday pinata.
Firelands Trash Farm for BoEs
If you’re not a crafter, you could have more fun farming the trash in Firelands. Plenty of BoE epics dropping there, I myself got lucky with an Obsidian Cleaver. I asked my clever friends over on Twitter if they had seen any on their own AHs and at what price, but no one had, so I opened up The Undermine Journal and found it was going at wildly volatile prices between 50k and 120k. It’s currently sitting on my AH waiting for a new home! Do you follow me on Twitter? If not, come say hi today. If you follow me, I’m writing up to the minute news on 4.2 and retweet important info like the Recruit A Friend being extended all the way to level 80!
If you’re going to farm Firelands Trash, take a crafter character with you: Blacksmith, Leatherworker or Tailor. The epic crafted gear patterns drop from the trash. Thanks to mmo-champion: I swiped their list of patterns. I’ve seen a lot of these today in trash.
Blacksmithing: Fists of Fury, Eternal Elementium Handguards, Holy Flame Gauntlets, Warboots of Mighty Lords, Mirrored Boots, Emberforged Elementium Boots,
Leatherworking: Dragonfire Gloves, Gloves of Unforgiving Flame, Hands Clutches of Evil, Heavenly Gloves of the Moon, Earthen Scale Sabatons, Footwraps of Quenched Fire, Treads of the Craft, Ethereal Footfalls.
Tailoring: Grips of Altered Reality, Don Tayo’s Inferno Mittens, Endless Dream Walkers, Boots of the Black Flame.
How to start patch 4.2
The Firelands dailies quests start at the Hero Call Boards in SW and Org, and the Thrall questline which gives the epic cloak starts at the portal hub area in Stormwind and Orgrimmar.
If you get bored of Firelands farming, Ahune is still around to be killed, and a new boss is available from next week in Baradin Hold called Occu’thar.

Support Your Guild
However much gold you have, whether 100g or 1 million, you’re pretty lucky and rich. Consider giving a small portion of your gold back to your guild bank, remembering the other poor newbies. Â Every nub helped is one less nub pestering you for stuff, hopefully.
This series of gold making guides about using your guild to help you on your path to riches, is dedicated to Lily, my “best ever” GM. in WOTLK, I teamed together with an engineer guild officer with one of the first mechanochopper patterns and we basically clubbed together to buy our GM a chopper to say “thanks for leading us this far, and for all the time you put into sorting the guild out”. Think we were server first at the time, ploughing through Ulduar, and she hadn’t expected to save up for a bike, which was a pretty big investment at the time. The expression on her face was worth every copper. 🙂
Your Guild Bank Contents
The items in the guild bank belong to the guild master, not to the guild. If a guild disbands, the guild master get everything. In their mailbox is they close the guild without emptying the bank. Guild disbands are often in the midst of drama and a scramble for leftovers, so if you decide to tithe your gold, or your items, and give them to the guild bank, give fully. Say goodbye to them, and don’t expect a return!
I hope you enjoyed the series on how to make gold using some tricks with your guild. Yesterday’s article was about Guild Markets – the forum, and the guild bank. No post tomorrow, it’s my birthday!

Your Guild Markets
Are you using your guild market to the full? How would you feel if I told you that you probably already have access to a secret marketplace that the other players on your server cannot access, a marketplace where the other buyers and traders will read everything you write and will want to help you make gold?
It’s just your guild forums! But what a great market they can be.
Tell your guild mates if you need any mats (stockpiling pyrite for potential epic gems anyone? Buying lots of Truegold transmutes ready for patch 4 ….. oops I’m not allowed to say that number!) The great thing about your forums is that your message stays “live” forever, or until the GM deletes it! Your trade chat message, on the other hand, is on screen for only a few seconds before it’s bumped off by the next incoming chat messages.
You can also offer a full list of your professions, in case your guild mates are desperately lazy and can’t use the guild roster, or you could write a little advert, listing your most popular crafting skills and patterns.
- Don’t be afraid to charge your guild mates, but be sure that your prices are fair.
- Personally I check AH and charge under the AH prices.
- If you find a guild mate taking advantage of you once, then CHEER – your friend needed gold and you were able to help him.
- If he tried to do it repeatedly, I’d suddenly make myself very busy and unavailable.
- Telling tales to a GM is often a no-no in etiquette until a complaint is made by another guild member.
- Don’t sweat the small stuff, but if it’s big stuff, sort it out quick.
Making Your Guild Bank Work for You
Do you take too much from the Guild Bank, or too little? Different guilds have different etiquettes and rules about using the guild bank. When I was raiding Karazhan, my raiding guild had the rules that no one ever needed to bring raid flasks, they were all provided by the bank, along with raid repairs. In wrath of the lich king, the guild bank rules were that unclaimed epics could be requested by chatting with an officer, and made our alts very happy in their free purples. When we downed Arthas for the first time, I donated a big bundle of gold to the guild bank as a reward for everyone.
What are your guild bank rules, and are you giving, or taking too much or too little?
More about giving to your guild in tomorrow’s post.

Farming
Are you using your guild mates to maximise your farming and grinding time?
I hate farming for World of Warcraft gold, I hate farming, grinding, killing the same mobs over and over again, but did you know that your guild can help you out with farming? In this 3rd part of my Gold With Your Guild series I’ve got some tricks and tips for making those boring hours more productive and effective for you.
Invite your Guild Mates
If your guild mate is gathering in the same area as you, invite them to a party.
I know it goes against the instincts when you want to gather and grab as much as possible, excluding the competition, but there are a couple of reasons why:
You can share information on competitors in the area.
You can watch where your guild mate is farming and gathering, and then you know you won’t be covering the same ground.
Give, and you will receive. (Part of the Gold Queen’s “be nice” business policy.)
You can see which areas have recently been harvested, and work out which areas are therefore empty and which are more likely to have the freshest mobs or most ore/herbs/gold/crapthat you want to gather.
You can set your Gatherer addon, one of my recommended addons, to share herb gathering nodes and status with party members, if you do not already have it set to share the information with the entire guild.
Some things are just easier to do with a mate there to listen to complaints “urghh I hate farming” or successes “Zomg, CAMEL STATUE! 111”
More obscure reasons you might enjoy farming with guild mates:
If your guild mate is an enchanter, you can profit from the option to disenchant any greens that you loot. Â I’m pretty sure that this stacks with Bountiful Bags perk! Can you try it and let me know?
Is your guild mate not max level? Let him have some of your XP, he’ll be grateful.
A team of guild mates gathering can farm an entire region, for example Stranglethorn Vale for the elusive and expensive (5-10k) Hyacinth Macaw
In the same way, you can team up to farm and grind rep such as the reputation grind for the Sporregar, or Bloodsail, much faster in a group.
What other ways have I missed that you can work with a guild mate in a team to make more gold?
