Jinyu and Hozen
World of Warcraft’s next expansion Mists of Pandaria includes new factions for both horde and alliance. Â Alliance will grind reputation with the fishy Jinyu, whilst Horde become friendly with monkey-like Hozen.
Jinyu – Alliance
Hozen – Horde
Reputation Rewards.
Rewards for grinding faction reputation to exalted can traditionally include:
- Rare pre-dungeon armor
- Mounts
- Tabard
- Professions recipes and patterns
- Pre-arena pvp gear
- BoP gems, food, and useable items.
You can bet that grinding reputation to exalted with Jinyu or Hozu will be a similar grind to getting max rep with factions in Cataclysm expansion. Not all players will get exalted status and rewards. Â That’s one of the reasons why professions crafters can charge extra or ask for a tip when they craft using a pattern earned by reputation grinding.
New Daily Quests?
All the Cataclysm factions had repeatable daily quests (even Ramakhan!) which generated a good chunk of gold for the patient greedy or stubborn. I fall into the category of all three. With Mists of Pandaria focusing on the Horde v Alliance conflict, we may even find Jinyu and Hozen dailies follow the Tol Barad precedent. Greg Street, Lead Designer even hinted at a large battleground in Pandaria by the second patch of the expansion. Ones to watch out for?

An over-my-shoulder view of my auctions today. Names blurred to protect the buyers.
Shifting Shadow Spinel
Buy for 190g, cut, sell for 874g. What’s not to love?
Sovereign Demonseye
Part of my normal daily jewelcrafting AH spam. Very little profit here.
Bold Queen’s Garnet.
Horrifically low price, less than half than it should be. I wince when I see this. However, with availability of uncut gems ever increasing, I’m relieved to have at least sold this gem, and won’t be selling any more.
Heavy Savage Leather
I over-bought heavy savage leather at 30g per piece, to turn into pristine hide, and put my excess stock back on the Auction House at 38g94s
Formula Enchant Bracer – Dodge
Buy in Darnassus or Swamp of Sorrows for 58s. Sell on the Auction House for 216g. Wowhead
Honed Stiletto of the Tiger
I picked this up on my travels, and put it on AH at a low price. This low price attracts not only alts, and twinks, but also appeals to transmog item traders. Your competitors can be your buyers.
Flashing Inferno Ruby
I bought cheap carnelians, transmuted them into Inferno Rubies, and cut some before putting them on the Auction House.
Formula: Enchant Weapon – Crusader
Drops from mobs in Eastern Plaguelands, I’m happy with a sale for 900g.
Solid Gold Coin
The Gold Queen Caught In Gold Selling Scandal!
Just kidding, this is a grey item received from doing the fishing daily in Dalaran. I threw it up in the vague hope someone might want it as a memento or souvenir
Summary
I post a wide cross section of items. Limited Supply items, gems, leather, and anything else that I pick up on my travels. Everything can either be sold, or repurposed and sold.

Ametrine and Dreadstone are respectively the orange and purple epic gems from Wrath of the Lich King.
This is a classic study of Thinking Outside (Thinking Outside the Box).
Your average Gold Gamer
- will try to sell Inferno Ruby and Queen’s Garnet.
- If he thinks outside the box, he will avoid the over-flooded Red Gems market and look at the orange and purple Cataclysm gems. Ember Topaz are selling particularly well on my server this month.
Your Better-than-average Gold Gamer
- will look into the Wrath of the Lich King gems, and try to control the Cardinal Ruby market. These are the epic red gems from WOTLK.
The Best Gold Gamer
- will look beyond even this, and move his or her eyes to the Ametrine or Dreadstone markets.
- Both of these, even on my extremely busy server, are under-loved, and ripe for the picking. Cut gems are selling for 250g+ This is better than the cut Inferno Ruby prices.
Todays’ idea to take away is “look further, then look further still, until you find your niche”.

A reminder to Leatherworkers
A small but steady amount of gold can be earned in the World of Warcraft Auction House by buying uncured hides, purchasing salt from leatherworking suppliers, and selling the cured hides on the Auction House.
My main character has been a leatherworker since 2000-and-mumble, before raiding was even invented. In vanilla World of Warcraft, the cooldown on the deeprock salt shaker was 4 days, the same as the mooncloth creation cooldown. Timing your Cured Rugged Hide was as important as timing your Dreamcloth tailoring cooldown today. When something is important like that, you don’t forget it easily.
There are 5 “Cured Hide” types, listed above. Thick Hide, Heavy Hide, Medium Hide and Light Hide take normal Salt which you can buy from the leatherworking supplier at about 40c each. Incidently, salt also sells on its own in the AH for up to 75s each. Some guys still are too lazy to go to the vendors.
Cured Rugged Hide takes Refined Deeprock Salt, which can be refined using a Salt Shaker.
Engineers, check the cost of the materials for a Salt Shaker, and the prices on AH for the crafted item. Is it worth making? Is there a gap in the market which you can fill?
In every case, the price of salt + uncured hide is less than the value of a cured hide. Where this isn’t the case, it’s usually in a situation where a cured hide is a volatile price, fluctuating wildly with a large spread. When the prices are volatile, it’s simply a matter of patience for the price to rise to a profitable level in a few days.
If you’re a leatherworker
Don’t ignore the cured hides in your quest for huge profits from crafting Up To Date armors. Never turn your nose up at a good solid profit. This is one market which you could completely own on your server.

Gordok Ogre Suit
Materials Cost 19g 21s
Selling Price 400g.
Gordok Ogre Suit costs under 20g to craft according to Lil Sparky’s Workshop, 24g to craft according to the Undermine Journal. It’s an item I’ve written about before, because it’s a great fun item, that sells only occasionally, when promoted in trade channel or otherwise. If you have lots of suits to spare, then activating one, and dancing in the AH and yelling in trade channel will get you a lot of fast sales!
You need skill 275 in Leatherworking or Tailoring. If you don’t have the pattern from before Cataclysm, you can make a Gordek Ogre Suit by taking the Ogre Tanin back to Knot Thimblejack in Dire Maul to complete the repeatable quest.
Dire Maul
The item is rare, not because it’s difficult to make, but because very few people run Dire Maul. Dire Maul used to be an alternative end game pre-raid dungeon where you could pick up armor to see you through to raiding Molten Core, if you didn’t want to farm Scholomance/Stratholme / Upper Blackrock Spire. A Dire Maul North Tribute Run was a popular dungeon where you killed the King Ogre, and were declared King of the Gordok Ogres. You had to avoid killing the Ogre Captains through a few avoidance strategies. A tribute run had better loot than a normal run.
Sorry, Realm!
I laughed to see the buyers of my Gordok Ogre suit all ogred-up, with elixir of giant growth, dancing in my Auction House. They were enough advertisement for me!
Did you ever have the Gordok Ogre Suit pattern? Have you sold any on AH? What sort of price?

Gold in Inventory and Auction House
Inspired by a real-id chat with blog reader Graeme, I wanted to take a snapshot of exactly where I am with gold-making.
I’ll use the opportunity to compare my liquid gold-in-hand currency to the value of my auctions that I have posted.
I took the snapshot 20 February 23:00 approx
I discovered I had far more auctions up on AH than I thought.
I’m pleased by that, because it means my gold is working for me, creating more wealth, rather than stagnating in my pockets.

Notes:
Not including: Items in bags, guild bank/s or personal banks.
There are markets I’m missing out on, especially blacksmithing, engineering, and cross faction.
I don’t do all the markets at one time, it’s important to pace yourself to avoid burn out.
