Icy Cloak Transmogrification

A wonderful transmog item is the icy cloak.  I first sold this in 2006 ish to a PVE / levelling up character who wanted a set of white armor, and matched the Icy Cloak with a White Wedding Dress.

Recipe: Icy Cloak is sold by Ghok’kah, a horde-only vendor in Dustwallow Marsh.

  • Horde, pick up the limited supply item from the vendor for 15s and sell the recipe through the neutral Auction House.
  • Alliance, look for good deals in the neutral AH from those horde.
  • Tailors, make up the Icy Cloak cloth back and sell for a really good profit.
  • Alchemists, craft frost oil and try to profit from the tailors making up the cloak.

Icy Cloak is a perfectly white cloak, with a cute golden border, celtic-style swirls.  It uses one of the very long cloak models.

Make the Most Profit

Gold Gamers, to make the most gold from the opportunity, go through every step, using your alts, a second account, or a friend to help transfer through the neutral AH. Buy the pattern, transfer through neutral AH, craft the cloak, and sell for a small fortune.

Icy Cloak sells for 1900g according to The Undermine Journal, but with very little competition and a unique look, transmog item specialists can try and sell this for much more.

Whether you try and sell your Icy Cloak for 1000g, 2000g or 5000g, it’s a big leap from the 15s it will cost for the pattern.

Items for your Snatch List:

  1. Icy Cloak
  2. Pattern: Icy Cloak
  3. Frost Oil
  4. Thick Spider Silk

Have you tried taking advantage of your opposite faction?

Horde < > Alliance Arbitrage

You can buy things from the opposite faction by looking through the neutral auction houses in Booty Bay, Gadgetzan and Everlook.  At the same time, you can also sell things to the opposite faction. This makes good sense for faction-only items like White Kitten and Black Tabby Cat.  The faction specific horde and alliance lunar festival pets are good items to swap to the opposite faction for better prices on their auction houses.

If you have two accounts, or if you only have one account and are willing to sweet-talk a friend or guild mate into helping, you can move items from one faction to another almost instantly.  You list your item at the neutral AH and your 2nd account/friend buys your sale immediately.

The Advanced Gold Gamer takes advantage of this by watching the neutral AH for items at very low cost which are being moved across unattended. Many a new gold maker has had their item sniped by another player whilst they’re trying to move something into the other faction.

The Consortium published a guide on sniping and preventing sniping across the neutral AH.

As well as getting involved in arbitrage, where you move items through the neutral auction houses to the other faction, you can really easily take advantage of differences in population sizes.

Horde / Alliance Sizes Differences

My main server has a huge faction imbalance.  The larger faction farming areas are absolutely crammed with players, whilst the opposite faction areas are ghost towns.  At seasonal festivals, such as Noble Garden, its easier to farm the starting areas of the opposite side.  Horde, try hunting eggs around Goldshire.  Alliance, head to Mulgore for your Noble Garden easter egg hunt.

With imbalanced faction sizes, demand for the smaller faction items will be strong.  The item will be less plentiful to obtain, needing the auction house, and the number of potential buyers will be nice and high.

How do you take advantage of your opposite faction in your gold gaming?

Transmogrification Rares for the Auction House

Elvine uses Twitch TV to livestream his World of Warcraft gold making routines. He loves transmogrification and credits Keelhaul with starting him on transmogrification gold.  It was 6.00am where he was streaming, so he’s pretty dedicated to his stuff.

I had a lot of fun joining his livestream.  He covered:

  • Farming AQ mobs
  • Farming rares for rare blues and gems for mogging
  • Setting selling prices for Mogging items
  • Searching for potential transmogrification gear on the Auction House

We had a lot of jokes about the Glorious Chest plate armor.  Elvine keeps a pretty relaxed livestream.

Some twitch.tv tips.

If you’re having trouble with the chat pane in Google Chrome or Firefox browsers, I’m sorry but if you switch to Internet Explorer (spit!) then the chat pane works easier.

One tip that Elvine shared is to farm a pair of trash mobs in AQ20.  That’s the Ruins of Ahn Quiraj.

Farming AQ Trash

When you get to AQ, keep going straight on into the 20 man instance, don’t turn right into AQ40!

Clear a few trash if you feel hungry, otherwise leave them and walk around.

  1. Do not kill Kurinnaxx
  2. Do not kill General Rajaxx
  3. Turn right at Rajaxx’s Terrace, that’s north west, towards the Reservoir Area.
  4. At the entrance to the Reservoir Area are a pair of Quiraji Gladiator mobs.
  5. The Quiraji Gladiators, when killed, almost instantly respawn.
  6. Ranged, you can step back one or two steps into the Reservoir to attack these, and bring them towards you.  Melee you can stand on the edge of the doorframe.  Step into the doorframe to aggro the instantly respawned pair, step back if you need a breather, to alt tab, make some coffee, loot your pile of dead mobs, whatever.
  7. Kill, loot, kill, loot, kill loot, kill loot, kill-loot-kill-loot, kloot-kloot… until your bags are full.
  8. Bring a Travelers Tundra Mammoth, Jeeves bot, MOLL-E or Argent Squire on pony in order to get rid of all the greys that drop.
  9. After an hour or two of lootlootlooting, head into the Auction House and sell what you found.

List of Green Transmogrification Gear Found in AQ

This is the mog gear I found in 45 minutes in AQ, whilst simultaneously chatting to Elvine and his viewers on his livestream:

I wish you a lot of luck farming in AQ20, and thank you a ton to Elvine for sharing his tips for free over on his livestream.  Go check it out, its one of my favourites.  Follow him on twitter @ElvineLol and tell him @thegoldqueen sent you.

I bought Sulfuron Hammer from the AH for 1800g and I know they meant to list it at 18,000g.  I feel really bad, what should I do?

I’ve run myself ragged today, posting glyphs for 8 hours. I was babysitting them, cancelling undercuts and reposting. I was also popping up on a few twitch tv wow gold live streaming events, and chatting to streamers and guests and offering a little advice.  I was on twitter, chatting away to twitter peeps and helping with queries.

I even had advice requested by whisper in game. This time was about ethics of buying items that are accidentally under-priced.  “L” had seen an item for 1/10 its normal selling price on the Auction House and pounced on it, before having an attack of the guilts. Regular readers of the Gold Queen will know I often wrestle with my conscience, and try to act fairly and generously to other players.  Here is the advice I gave “L” today.

“I bought Sulfuron Hammer from the AH for 1800g and I know they meant to list it at 18,000g.  I feel really bad, what should I do?”

First of all don’t panic. You didn’t purposefully try and take gold or money away from a player.  If you hadn’t bought his item, then someone else would have done.

I recommend hanging on to it for 24 hours. That gives the seller a window to contact you and beg you, nicely, to give him a break.

If you’re too late, and you’ve already resold the item, like “L”, then don’t beat yourself up about it. I told “L” that a lighthouse doesn’t go running around the island trying to save ships.  There is only so much you can do to help this guy with his stupid mistake.  If they contact you and they’re nice, you might want to offer them a share of the profits, to help them and you to feel better.  I told “L” that if he was rude, nasty, or arrogant, then not to bother.

It’s a personal choice. Your ethics are your ethics, not mine.

What if you’re the seller who made the mistake?

The best you can do is to ask.  If you don’t ask, you won’t get.  But you’re not likely to get any response except for trolling, so be prepared for a “no”.  It happens to all of us at some point, and the best thing to do is separate our emotions from our gold and move on.

Guides

Alto has released his Gold Guide for free. You can find more about that in his blog post.

Whilst Jim from Power Word: Gold has changed his Gold Guide selling system. You can read more about his gold guide here.

Gold Queen fans will be excited to hear about a secret project that I’ve been working on since August 2011, a paid-for premium gold guide.  You’ll be the first to hear more when I’m ready to show you. Perfectionism is making it very slow to produce.  I was offered the chance to work with a particularly famous guide seller for this, but decided to go out on my own.  I’ll write more about it when there’s more to tell.

Personal News

Long term readers will remember my sad and difficult months at the end of 2011 when I was in hospital after being attacked.  I didn’t know how the hell my life would ever be the same again afterwards, but I think you’ll be happy to hear that I’ve recently had the courage to start dating.  To spare my further blushes, I’ll move straight on to the next blog post > Did I Accidentally Scam Someone? Coming right up!

Why Your Transmogrification Stockpile Didn’t Sell …but will soon!

Who is your buyer?

Your buyer is a level 10-0 with a lot of gold. That’s a pretty tight demographic out of all the World of Warcraft players. And you can bet that if he has a lot of gold, it didn’t just rain from the sky.

Your buyer is smart.

He doesn’t want to spend 990g on a chest piece if he can buy it tomorrow for 12g 19s

Who is your competitor?

Your have two types of competitors.

  1. Gold gamers who have read a little on the gold blogs and forums and gold guides that “Transmogrification items will make you a million gold!”
  2. Levelling characters and alts who just want a bit of gold and to empty their bags.

It’s been some time since the release of Patch 4.3 and the new Transmogrification ability. Transmogrification was one of the requests by Warcraft players that I’ve followed for a while, due to my beginnings on a RP server and understanding of the needs of warcraft roleplayers. Incidentally, Pandaren are also one of the requests by players, so if you hate the Pandas, like I do, then you only have yourself to blame.

New Shiny World of Warcraft Content

When anything new comes out in World of Warcraft there is a rush of players. Whether that’s a rush of players raiding new bosses, crafting new gear, or selling newly useful gear.

It starts with a rumour.

Then there’s a surge.

Then a peak.

Then interest wanes as the patch rolls forward.

Runner

Two ways to win the Transmogrification Race

The Sprint

Get in before the rumours. Sell, sell, sell, fast as you can before any other gold gamer jumps on the bandwagon. In case you hadn’t noticed, you missed the bandwagon.

The Marathon

Your competition gets bored and exhausted, and sell all their stuff.

Outlast the Other Gold Gamers

Did you miss The Sprint? Go for the Marathon. Outlast the competition.

This is the hardest, because you will need to instinctively learn which items really do sell well and which only work in theory.   When you know that, you can replicate it. Repeat your success rather than taking a wild stab in the dark.

Transmogrification Selling From Another Point of View

Change your buyer

Sell to the gold gamer.

Occasionally halve your prices and turn your competitor into your buyer. He is forced to either undercut you, which means he hasn’t been selling his mog items either, or buy you out. What do you mean you bought the item for more than half the price? You’re in deep doo-doo my friend.

Either do this for all your stock, and SELL OUT before restarting with a better focus. Or just do it occasionally. If you do it occasionally, then you might trick your competitor into thinking you made a mistake on which he can profit, and that your items normally sell for double that price.

Eagle Eye on your Competitor

Lockdown everything on your server that remotely looks like or even smells like the gear you want to sell. That means beating your potential buyer to the Auction House. I can’t explain how much bad business sense this is. There is no way you can get into your buyer’s guild and ensure that all his guild mates’ alts sell to you rather than him. Are you crazy? Do you have no life? Do you like scanning the AH every 60 seconds?

Focus on what sells

Go back to TSM accounting module and check what has sold. Then do it again. Instead of focusing on “random mog items that people might want” focus on a list of five high sellers. These are mine:

Imperial Plate

Why? It’s cheap to make and the competition on my server are bored of it and don’t post regularly.

Black Dragonscale

Why? No competitors at all.

Wolfshead Helm

Wolf-face for druids. I know about LW and I know about druids, so this is a win.

Admiral’s Hat

Still sells high despite everyone knowing it is now much easier to craft.

Mooncloth Robe

Felcloth + moonwell, 1,000g yes please ##Extra Tip: Pick up some Wildvine in Felwood if you go hunting for Felcloth

Lesson: Do not dive into something that you know nothing about! Learn about what you’re selling before you go crazy and spend a fortune.
