That’s all I hear on twitter the last month! World of Warcraft players in a frenzy to buy the game, or use their annual pass to download and install their free Diablo 3 game.
As an annual pass holder (I wanted the mount), I’m eligible for a free Diablo 3 download, and today I’m apparently allowed to install it. However I have no intention of getting involved in Blizzard’s newest game. Why?
1 I’m determined to be an Expert in World of Warcraft Gold.
That means no deviating from course, not getting side-tracked by fun projects, no abandoning my blog for a diablo 3 blog. I will always be here for you, playing World of Warcraft with you, and giving you my free tips. I guarantee Gold Queen will stay on World of Warcraft for at least another 2 years. That’s a *lot* of free gold blog posts. I have my work cut out so I am keeping on target.
You may or may not know that I am quietly, steadily and surely, writing, recording, and producing my own world of warcraft gold guide. I’ve been working on it in my spare time since April 2011. I refuse to release a quickly made product or any guide until I’m 100% proud of it. And hey, with my dedication to the WoW Auction House, and my determination to regain my One Million Gold Cap, which I spent last month in one weekend, I don’t have much spare time left!
2 I don’t wanna be addicted
Don’t get me wrong, I love Diablo. I used to love Diablo 2. When Diablo 2 was out, I’d play it for hours. I had a tiny little house in Nottingham England, and a tiny little bedroom and half of it was my bed and the other half was my Diablo 2 PC. I had a druid, and used to play diablo far too much. Take that Skeleton Archer and Sand Maggot!
The other one I played was Baldur’s Gate. Loved that. Imoen was my favourite ahead of Minsc and Boo.
3 I’m always last to the party
Not because I’m old and slow (how rude!!) but because I have always been cautious about new ideas. I prefer slow and steady to rich, fast and dangerous. The only things I like fast and dangerous are NSFW.
You know those girls who wear the very latest fashions and look stupid? I’m not one of those. I wear them 6 months later, and look even worse because everyone and their dog now buys those trendy clothes at the local supermarket for £2.50.
World of Warcraft had been out for a few months before I decided to play it. I started playing WoW just after the original Zul Gurub and Arathi Basin were released in 2005. I’m a pretty loyal girl though, 6 1/2 years is a long time to stick with one game!
Hey, I’m still planning what I will do for the millennium party at the end of 1999. Stay in or go out, stay in or go out, hmmmm…
What do I not know about Diablo 3?
Battletags? I have no idea what they are. Wanna enlighten me?
The free game I get with the annual pass. Can I put it on my son’s PC instead and let him play? He’s 12 1/2 He’s currently addicted to Minecraft, but when I said I’d research whether he’d be allowed to play instead of me, he punched the air in excitement: “f_ckyeah!!”

Deepstone Oil
Deepstone Oil is made from Albino Cavefish by alchemists. You’ll find it listed with
Albino Cavefish are fished up in Deepholm, but due to the number of mobs near the western waters and marsh, I recommend fishing in Silvermarsh and Crimson Expanse in the east of Deepholm. Careful of the red mist.
I usually post deepstone oil in stacks of 8 on the AH, as a stack of 8 oil is one ingredient for the Vial of the Sands. However, I got a letter today from an enterprising reader who had been trying the reverse tactic.

Ben’s customer will be the person who likes silly tricks, the sort of player who buys elixir of giants, savory deviate delight, potion of illusion and the gordok ogre suit. This late in the expansion, players have more gold to spare, and will pay for a unique look.
Paying for a unique look is also the reason why some greens (low level uncommon armor) sell for transmogrification. In a busy world of warcraft, players all want to look special.

I use NPCscan an addon from curse. You can find it at http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/npcscan
To clear your NPCscan cache, follow these straightforward steps:
- Exit World of Warcraft.
- Delete the “Cache” sub-directory inside your World of Warcraft folder. For example on a standard Windows XP installation, you would delete the folder “C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Cache”.
- Advanced users can delete “C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Cache\WDB\enUS\creaturecache.wdb” specifically to improve log-in times, whereenUS is your language code.
NPCscanex is an extension to NPCscan which allows you to include rare npcs from old world of wacraft, Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor.

Wintersaber trainers
Winterspring is also home to the Wintersaber trainers, and alliance can raise their faction reputation to exalted to earn the right to buy a wintersaber, an utterly gorgeous purple/lilac frost saber mount with low amount of armor.
As usual I may have forgotten one or two more ways to make gold in Winterspring. I didn’t mention the Tranquil Mechanical Yeti pattern for a start.

Transmogrification arrived in World of Warcraft in Patch 4.3.
Mogging, as we call it, allows a player to change their weapon and armor appearance to match an uncommon, rare or epic item from their inventory. With transmogrification you can wear the latest tier armor gear, but mog it to look like tier 1, tier 5, or any of your old armor pieces.
Some smart gold makers took up the challenge to supply these mogging items at profitable, often vastly inflated prices. A green item worth 20s yesterday could today be a rare visual, and therefore worth 2,000g. Other gold makers dismissed the opportunity as a passing fad, a temporary fascination or just too complicated to learn and use.
Months on, and its now clear that mogging as a gold making method is here to stay.
The Mogfather banned
The mogfather, aka Keelhaul from Disenchanting Azeroth blog, was featured in an article by PC Gamer magazine and Joystiq. He’s become famous not just for making gold but for giving it all away. Since patch 4.3 he’s now made and given away over 2 million gold to wow players. He’s been banned 4 times because confused Blizzard GMs couldn’t imagine a plyer voluntarily giving gold to other players and thought he was a gold seller. But to the Mogather the compensation he received was the sheer fun of making so much gold in the AH and the delight of seeing his mogging items transforming mundane armor. A very visual game from the start, mogging creates a more beautiful world of warcraft.

On the opposite site of mogging gold making, excited goblins and auctioneers were inspired by his story. Copying his mogging snatch list and similar shopping lists, they tried to duplicate his selling prices. Many simply failed. Their home server had different levels of awareness and interest in buying armor for transmogrification. Mogging prices and sales volume vary according to demand. The other obvioius factor in sales is supply. Large busy economies offer more choice for buyers, more opportunities for buyers and competitors to catch desirable mogging armor and weapons at cheap prices. When items are slow to sell, a single mogging seller can repost at a good steadily high price, whilst many different competitors will excitedly undercut each other and drive down sales prices.
[box type=”info”] In a large market, the cost of buying all copies of items in a snatch list can run to 100s of 1000g. In order to maintain a monopoly on mogging items you could try specialising in one type of armor, eg plate, or weapon eg maces. Try specialising in one style of armor, eg Conquerors plate or Silver-thread cloth. Alternately, specialise in one part of the armor, eg all leg armors or only chest armor. Allow competitors to fight to sell other pieces of a matching set for 1-2000g each and buy all the leg pieces charging 10,000g for the buyer to complete his set. [/box]
You may like to also read my article on mog prices and how important it is that prices are led by player demand rather than an arbitrary amount that worked on another server.
You Have the Potential to be a Really Great Mogging Seller if:
- If you have ever roleplayed and asked other players where their costumes come from or watched the AH for cool looking armor for your RP character and noted prices or availability
- You have a mathematical brain and an arty heart. You can balance numbers with visuals.
- You have the courage to ask for more, the tenacity to negotiate, the patience to keep trying, and the wisdom to let go of bad gambles to concentrate on wise investments.
Warning
On small servers, players face a different set of problems. Lower overall wealth discourage potential buyers from expensive purchases. Supply is also lower. You might find yourself farming rares or instances to top up your stock. And with slower more cautious purchases, you may need to hold stock longer, taking up more storage space in your bank(s).
Did You Give Up on Mogging?
Caught between a rock and a hard place, mogging sellers have already begun to give up. The sucessful mog sellers to be adaptable an smart, and to find their own server’s sweet spots, and then milk them for millions of gold.
If you’re considering giving up, I want to encourage you to stick with it, and look at your difficulties from other angles to find your right solution.
It’s still viable to make gold from selling transmogrification armor and weapons. Some of my friends on Twitter only sell mogging items, others use it as a side trade. I personally make my profits with mogging as just one of many markets. I spend less than 100g per day restocking 5-20 new items, and sell approx the same number at 200-1,000g each. Not as much as the mogging item specialists, but definitely enough for me to consider it a success. Its a really fun way to play and win at the Auction House in WoW but I had to be smart and responsive to supply and demand.

So I’m hanging out in the AH last night about 3am, posting some glyphs. And there were two guys there, chatting about gold making. My ears pricked up about halfway through their conversation. It went something like this:
“Dragon Soul is such a faceroll. I’m finished raiding.”
“So what ya doing?”
“Nothing left to do but make gold. Got to prepare for Pandora.”
[Mini argument followed about “Pandora” -v- “Pandaria”.]
“So what’s your goal?”
“Huh?”
“How much gold you want 2 make?”
“As much as possible, trying for 20,000g to start MoP”
“Cool, ok.”
[Player starts discussing merits and demerits of other player’s mother]
You can make as much gold as you want before Pandaria
