The Spectral Tiger Owner’s Club
The Spectral Tiger Owner’s Club is a new column featuring the elite gold makers of World of Warcraft who have bought the expensive Trading Card Game Mount “Spectral Tiger”, either the rare blue, tiger, or the epic purple tiger mount.
Today we have Obeah who will be sharing his success story.
Please tell us a little about yourself, how long you have been playing Warcraft, and what parts of it you enjoy the most.
I’m a lifelong gamer, started back with a Commodore 64 PC and an Atari 2600 VCS. As for Warcraft, I’ve played since Feb 2008 – very late TBC, only a few months before Wrath launched. I enjoy dungeons, raiding, and Battlegrounds.
When did you see your first Spectral Tiger mount, and how did you feel?
The first Spectral Tiger I saw was in Orgrimmar. I don’t recall who was on it, just that it was early on into playing Warcraft. I just saw this very bright, shiny feline mount that looked awesome. I looked on, clearly thinking, ‘That’s beautiful – but I’ll never have that.’
How long did it take you to get the gold you needed for the Spectral Tiger?
I did not purchase the Spectral Tiger in-game with gold. I’ll explain upcoming.
Tell me about the day you got your Spectral Tiger, how did it happen?
I got the Spectral Tiger, and Swift Spectral Tiger, as a gift from my wife. She was, and is, the reason I started playing Warcraft. She did a trial account in Jan 2008, I joined her live Feb 2008 when she went to a full subscription. As for the day I received the gift, she had two of the loot cards in hand, and gave me one for my toons, keeping one for herself. I was very happy, as was she.
Most people buy their tiger with gold. You didn’t? Do you still make gold?
No, I didn’t buy the Tiger with gold in-game. I was lucky enough to get it as a gift from my wife, who is a lifelong gamer as well. As for making gold, I definitely work on making what I can. Supporting characters over 4 realms (2 sets of 2 merged realms) on 2 different factions requires a nice chunk of gold to survive, much less live comfortably. I have 10 characters at level 90 plus, with 4 at current level cap (100) and somewhere around 35 to 40 overall toons. In the past few months, since release of patch 6.2, I’ve made over 100k gold selling Medallion of the Legion via the AH.
How long do you think it would take you to save up for the Spectral Tiger, just from making gold?
How long it would take, for me, is very different now than it would have been a few years ago. If I had products as in-demand/big-ticket as Medallion of the Legion have been, a few months of just selling those would make the gold to buy a Spectral Tiger. (I also had a very demanding job for the first 4 years I played Warcraft, working long shifts under contract for a big-name movie distribution company.)
What addons, if any, do you use to help you make gold?
In terms of addons, I use: Postal, The Undermine Journal addon, Auctioneer, and Auctionator. I especially enjoy the ability to automatically check for undercuts that Auctionator provides.
Do you have any other gold making goals? Are there other mounts you want to own? Do you already have other status symbols?
I want to hit gold-cap on my main server by the time Legion is over, if I can manage it. I’d like to own the 300 mount achievement mount (Heavenly Azure Cloud Serpent.) I have 227 mounts currently, so I still have some work to do for that one. As for “status symbol” mounts, I have the Amani Dragonhawk (TCG) and Kor’kron War Wolf (Normal Garrosh AoTC) mounts.
What makes the Spectral Tiger so special? And when you got it, did you celebrate in any particular way?
Spectral Tigers are special, for me, because I main Horde characters. In-game, Horde don’t normally get an opportunity at feline mounts. The fact of felines being heavily associated with Alliance, and the unique model, make the mount very sweet to have. After getting the Tiger as a gift from my wife, she and I did laps around Orgrimmar on our new Spectral Tigers,
stopping to roar at passers-by.
Do you have any special gold making tips that you would like to share?
Every sale counts, whether it’s 5g or 5k gold. You don’t have to take over a market to make a profit. Making gold is a fine balance of being proactive (farming a route, routine chore-
tasks) and waiting for the right time to post items to take advantage of player habits. Last, but never least, stay hungry to make gold. Having gold in-game is security for your characters, being able to afford whatever needs you may have for them at whatever time you have the need.
What are your future plans with WoW?
Future Plans.. In-game? I’m focusing more on making gold now as we wind down Warlords and approach Legion. Outside of the game, I will continue to campaign for a proper #FlightPlan to be implemented for the Legion expansion. It’s an extension of the campaign I conducted to lobby for reinstating flight for Draenor and future expansions, as #FlightIsImportant to me.
Anything else to add?
There is a special shout-out I want to give here. Many years ago, when the Trial of the Champion dungeon was first introduced to the game, my wife and I hit a wall within the game. We wanted to progress to do ICC, but not being in a large guild and without many friends playing, we were at a dead-end. Two very awesome people, Steelydan and Gondur, joined us to help us do the dungeon. We got new gear, and were eventually able to progress forward to ICC and beyond. However, that progress, and anything afterward, would not have happened without their help. On behalf of my wife and myself, I thank them. I honestly hope to pass that forward to others in Warcraft; and, I hope others would do the same to help those less fortunate in the game.
Thanks Obeah, and welcome to the Spectral Tiger Owners Club!

Operation for TSM3 Vendoring
Trade Skill Master 3 now allows you to filter operations according to number of AH expires.
In my sell_greenies operation that I use to auction trash greens from the Salvage Yard, (see series on Salvage Yard Crate green armor sales) I set the maximum number of expires to 8.
But what do you do when your greenies haven’t sold?
You’ve tried to sell them 8 times.
They’re just sitting taking up space in your inventory.
You could just sell all of them to a vendor.
But they might be worth more gold if you disenchanted them.
Create this TSM 3 Vendoring Operation and connect it to your greenies group.
It vendors everything in the greenies group that
- has expired at least 8 times
- has a market value under 120g
- unless the disenchant value of the item (plus 30c for mailing costs to your alt) is higher than the vendor price.
Here is the TSM string for importing
^1^T^SvsMarketValue^Savg(WowuctionRegionMarket,~`DBGlobalMarketAvg)^Smodule^SVendoring^SvsMaxMarketValue^S120g^SenableBuy^B^SvsDestroyValue^SDestroy^SsellAfterExpired^N8^SqsPreference^N1^SrestockSources^T^t^SrestockQty^N0^SkeepQty^N0^SvsMaxDestroyValue^Svendorsell+30c^SsellSoulbound^b^SenableSell^B^t^^

Vendoring your unsold auction items
Activate Super Vendoring Powers
Once you have linked the sell_crud vendoring operation to your greenies group, you activate it by
- heading to a vendor
- choose TSM_Vendoring on the bottom tabs
- open the TSM Groups top tab
- select the greenies group
- click ‘Sell Selected Groups‘
[box type=”warning”] There are only x buyback slots at a vendor, so go gently with this! Don’t accidentally set the expires at 0 and link it to your transmog group unless you want to vendor your entire transmog stock![/box]
Leftovers
You will have left in your bags
- items that you didn’t group – group them
- items that are worth over 120g – check for transmog worthiness
- items that you can discenchant – send them to an enchanting alt/friend

How much gold do you have?
Why does it matter?
Once you get your first gold cap.
Once you get into the swing of investing, creating, multiplying gold, then it stops being a challenge to make gold.
That’s when I started giving away or spending *ALL* my gold at the end of an expansion. I’ve done this for the last few expansions although I think I might try something different with Warcraft Legion.
With no gold, the challenge returns.
And that’s when I discovered a gold making truth that surprised me.
It is not how much gold you have. Once you have gold, you can make more gold. Gold comes and goes.
The real test about being a great gold maker is the MAKING of the gold. How fast you can go from zero to 100k.
Whether you can get gold … when you want gold.
It’s easy to find a method (Vale Farming. Firelands farming. Bastion of Twilight. Crafting BoEs) And then reproduce that method mindlessly for months. You got some gold. Grats on your blog reading skills!
I’ve been trying to find the right words to describe this for a few months now. I tried with my comparison to cars: You don’t buy a car because it has driven a lot of miles. You buy it because it can accelerate from 0-60 really fast, when you need it to.
But people still don’t seem to get it. They continue to ask me “how much do you have?” and then compare it to other people. What if I have invested it all in items like mogs, items I know won’t sell immediately, but I am sure will bring in gold. And when I say “sure”, I mean from years of experience. What if I have bought gazillions of wow tokens? What if I have bought mounts for people who never thought they would afford them? What if I see something on Black Market Auction House and buy it, just because I can? What if I’ve seen the server first drop of X item, and bought it on AH, because I’m the only one who can afford it? How do you put a number or value on that?
Gold is just pixels. At the end of the day, when you finally give up on Warcraft, it dies, it goes F2P, you leave, or there’s a war that destroys all Warcraft servers in existence, at the end of the day, all you have is pixels.
Those beautiful pixels, that gold. You farm it, you yearn for it, for a reason. It’s power. It’s power to get things. It’s power to get the things you want, when you want.
At the end of the day, that’s what you really want. Not Gold.

How to Save World of Warcraft Gold like a Pro
How to Save World of Warcraft Gold like a Pro
Why Save?
If you are a long time reader of the blog, or even a new twitch follower or chat to me on twitter, then you will know that
The single most important reason why you are not rich is because you are spending your gold.
Warcraft gives us so many ways to make gold: quests, garrisons, professions, farming, selling, even the WoW Token.
Yet the number one query I get is “I don’t have enough gold“.
You. Have. Spent. It. All.
How to Keep your Warcraft Gold
Piggy Bank
Make yourself a piggy bank character. Or designate an unused alt as your piggy bank character. Not your bank alt, because you’ll just spend it.
If you’re going Pro with this, and have a second account, mail your gold to a character on your second account. No more temptation to touch it.
Pick a set amount per day and mail it across. Without fail.
Pros, if you make 50k a day, mail 40k a day across.
Beginners, if you make 1,000g, then mail 500g across, keep 300g for reinvestment, and 200g for play money.
How much to Mail to your Piggy Bank?
Challenge yourself.
If your daily income is 100-200g then set aside 150g for savings. Make it so that it hurts just a little bit.
Make it so that you are stretched a little bit, challenged to make a few more gold, challenged by yourself to sell a few more items, to spend a few less gold.
Advanced Gold Saving with Trade Skill Master
I save my gold by sending to a piggy bank character (and once that piggy bank character is full up, by making a new piggy bank character) and using TSM to transfer the gold automatically.
1. Open your Mail Box.
2. Open TSM Mailing tab (bottom of mailbox window)
3. Choose Other from top tabs
4. Find Send Excess Gold to Banker
5. Type in your piggy bank character name BE CAREFUL
6. Set a limit in gold – the amount that you want to keep on this current character
7. Click Send Excess Gold To
990,000g
I keep 990,000g on my characters because this allows me to receive gold from my garrision missions, or to receive one iteration of the mailbox (50 sales) without going over the gold cap. if I get over approx 994k then I mail my extra on to the piggy bank.
I keep 990,000g on my character because I am expected to display a large amount of wealth on twitch/twitter/screencaps. You don’t need to do this! You can set the amount that you want to keep.
It’s worth noting that if you have 998,000g and you earn 4,000g from Blingtron’s Vault, then you will get 999,999g in your bags and the rest of the mail will disppear into the Nether ! omg. Be careful guys.

Today we have Sparkles who will be sharing her success story.
Please tell us a little about yourself, how long you have been playing Warcraft, and what parts of it you enjoy the most.
I have been playing WoW for about eight years now. I have found the social aspect of the game my favorite part. But I also love raiding, and of course, gold-making.
When did you see your first Spectral Tiger mount, and how did you feel?
I can’t quite remember exactly when I saw it at first, probably at some point in my newbie days. But I think I remember being pretty enamored with the giant, sparkly kitty.
How long did it take you to get the gold you needed for the Spectral Tiger?
I think it took me a little over two weeks to get the gold for the Spectral Tiger, but it took a month for one to actually show up on the auction house.
How much did your Spectral Tiger cost?
My Spectral Tiger cost 350,000 gold.
How did you get the gold you needed to pay for it? Did you use professions, garrisons, sell services for other players, or work the Auction House?
I used a combination of professions, garrisons, and working the auction house. I also farmed a little when I felt the urge. Most of my gold probably came from working the auction house though.
Thinking about how you made the gold you needed, how did you learn how to make it? Was it an easy process or was it a steep learning curve?
My fiancé showed me a lot in the way of making gold, mostly showing me how to set up TSM. I have also learned a lot from you and your website. I’ve even taken some knowledge from WoWProfitz. It was a pretty easy process for me considering the help I had.
What addons, if any, do you use to help you make gold?
The primary addon I use is TradeSkillMaster (TSM) and Postal.
Do you have any other gold making goals? Are there other mounts you want to own? Do you already have other status symbols?
I definitely have more gold making goals! A lot of them include mounts, namely the rest of the TCG mounts. I’m currently saving up for the Swift Spectral Tiger. I’m not sure I have much else in the way of status symbols aside from my Grand Expedition Yak perhaps.
What makes the Spectral Tiger so special? And when you got it, did you celebrate in any particular way?
The Spectral Tiger is special to me because it has no shortage of sparkles, and it’s just a really pretty mount in general. Of course, there’s something to be said for rarity as well. And yes, it definitely was celebrated! My fiancé and I were going to ride from Winterspring to Uldum, but it ended up as a parade made through group-finder. We ended up making this journey on /walk! It took a while, but it was a lot of fun.
Do you have any special gold making tips that you would like to share?
Absolutely! First off, it always helps to keep your goals in mind to keep yourself motivated. Secondly, if you want to get into gold making, there’s a wealth of resources at your fingertips and a great community to turn to for information and help. And lastly, make it in a way that’s fun for you!
What are your future plans with WoW?
I think my two main goals in WoW currently are to continue progressing with my guild in raiding, and to continue making gold.
Anything else to add?
I’ve had an awesome time with gold making, I always thought it would just be tedious but it really is so much fun. And as I think I’ve mentioned, the gold making community is great as well.
Thanks Sparkles, and welcome to the Spectral Tiger Owners Club!
