The Spectral Tiger Owner’s Club

The Spectral Tiger Owner’s Club is a column featuring the elite gold makers of World of Warcraft who have bought the expensive Trading Card Game Mount “Spectral Tiger”, either the rare blue, tiger, or the epic purple tiger mount.

Today we have Brandi who will be sharing her success story.

Spectral Tiger

Please tell us a little about yourself, how long you have been playing Warcraft, and what parts of it you enjoy the most.

Hello there, I’m Brandi I play a Blood Elf hunter, sometimes a lesser geared hunter alt. I started playing Warcraft in 2008 shortly before Wrath came out. As far as what i enjoy the most: friendships #1 thing is friends I hate doing things solo. Other than that I am big on achievements and reps makes me feel like I did something good.

When did you see your first Spectral Tiger mount, and how did you feel?

Oh geez, I would have to say Mist of Pandaria would be the first time I can remember (I have a horrible memory). I saw some of the top end raiders at the time running around on it and I had to have it.

How long did it take you to get the gold you needed for the Spectral Tiger?

Uhm whatever day Hellfire Citadel came out. That’s when I really started to push for earning and saving gold.

How much did your Spectral Tiger cost?

Mine was non-swift, on a not so popular realm, so I paid 290k

How did you get the gold you needed to pay for it? Did you use professions, garrisons, sell services for other players, or work the Auction House?

Medallions, lots of em. Also 6 garrisons up and running with treasure hunters. I think maybe 5% of my profit has been transmog (shadowfang keep mostly).

Thinking about how you made the gold you needed, how did you learn how to make it? Was it an easy process or was it a steep learning curve?

Honestly, once i found out gold making areas that worked for me i used it as a distraction and a challenge to say i was doing something.

What addons, if any, do you use to help you make gold?

Zero nothing nada. I dont even use a mailbox addon.

Brandi on her Spectral Tiger

Brandi on her Spectral Tiger

Do you have any other gold making goals? Are there other mounts you want to own? Do you already have other status symbols?

Eventually, I want the swift spectral, and maybe the magic rooster which I almost bought instead.. woops!

What makes the Spectral Tiger so special? And when you got it, did you celebrate in any particular way?

It’s a freaking cat mount and I love it. I love the colors the way it runs Mew:3 and stuff lol And yes I posted on twitter about it and had a mini celebration running around Warspear.

Do you have any special gold making tips that you would like to share?

Missions, lots of missions. Also salvage yard vendoring the greens add up. Find a class you know well and know how to mass pull with before trying to find an area to farm.

What are your future plans with WoW?

Wow is what I do, all day every day, its a pleasure and a curse all at once for being disabled. I plan to not only keep farming gold (cause now I need some lol) but also working on achievements and getting back into my love for pet battles

Anything else to add?
Cat mounts the game needs more cat mounts!

Thanks Brandi and welcome to the club!

Dear Gold Queen Readers,

Today I am frustrated because posts like this about Paid For gold guides tar all gold makers with the same, awful, brush.

http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/998799-Hayden-Hawke-richest-player-on-WoW

TL;DR:

  • We’re scammers.
  • It’s bullshit
  • No one has over a million gold [me: HAHHAHA]
  • Don’t buy guides that mention farming
  • Best way to make gold is farming
  • “She’s chubby” [what?]
  • “God is she hideous”. [WHAT?]
  • Don’t pay for what you can get free
  • No one with gold will tell you how they got it
  • “Just some dumb cunt making up bullshit lies to illegally make money off Blizzard’s game.”
  • These guides are a con
  • Some obese internet marketer makes $250,000 per guide

Apart from the terrifying misogyny, the revulsion to people wanting to know more about WoW and Gold Making, I wonder if the people complaining about Video Gamers realise that they are actually Video Gamers.  Self-disgust is always upsetting for me to read.

Paid Gold Guides Myths

That aside, allow me to disect the myths surrounding Paid Gold Guides!

Internet marketers are not the same as gold makers!

let me say that again …

Internet marketers are not the same as gold makers!

Gold makers are not the same as gold farmers

Farmers are not (always) the same as gold sellers

How to know whether your guide is WORTH even reading.

Is it popular? Well if lots of people are doing it, and continue to do it, then it must be making gold for them.  Like Medallion of Legion, if it works, do it. Take this as your bread-and-butter gold making. And then add your own sauce to it. Your own flavouring.

An internet marketer takes all the gold making guides he can get, wraps them up nicely, and presents them.  You are paying for the packaging.  But the trouble is, WoW is an ever-changing game. Even in times when new content is not being released, new players are coming and going, new competitors, new buyers.  If the guide is pre-packaged, does it take this into consideration?  That’s why I proudly think my blog is superior.

It frustrates me when I hear things like “Dont pay for what you can get free.”  You can get free potatoes if you plant some in the ground and water them regularly, watching over them, harvesting them at the right time.  Or you can just buy some fries.  No one ever complains that Mcdonalds are scamming people illegally because you could grow your own potatoes at home.

Guide, or Course?

When I started writing about gold, a “Gold Guide” meant everything about making gold, from start to finish.  Now a “Gold Guide” means “Farm this place”, and I had to rename my full gold making guide as a Course.   Free Gold Making Email Course available here.

My Business Model

I’m open about my business model.

I started TGQ so that I could work from home and care 24/7 for my disabled child, and play my favourite game, and share information I knew. All my blog, and my gold making email course are free. But I have to eat too. I have bills to pay.

Here’s how I started out as TGQ

  • I give away 90% of everything I know. I keep 10% back.
  • I write blog posts/guides 2-3 times a week.
  • I am available on Twitter for about 18 hours per day for fun, chats, ideas, tips.
  • I try and answer every email (use the contact page!)
  • Sometimes I livestream on Twitch.tv while multi-tasking caring for the kids.

I give this all away for free to build good will.  In the hopes that you will donate (buy me coffee!), come to the Twitch Livestream to donate, or buy the new upcoming Garrison Gold Guide. One day I will try and put 100% of everything I know, in the right order, with the right encouragement and inspiration you need, and charge something  like $40 for it.

Only problem is that “everything I know” is prohibitively large, and last time I tried to make this, my project management skills added this up to 100 hours of video guides, plus PDFs.  Which would mean about 6-700 work hours for me, with scripting, filming, editing, rendering, quality control, uploading, website admin, getting it up on Clickbank, marketing, graphics, affiliate management, then ongoing maintenance, admin, customer service.  I’m not sure how to do this, yet.  But it’s my goal. Last time I tried, I got about 2/3 the way through before my hard drive died, argh! I couldn’t afford a backup drive, so it was all gone.

Here’s the truth about professional gold guides like “Secret Gold Guide”.

  • They are written by a team, not a girl.
  • Companies use models/actors in advertising. The people in the toilet tissue TV adverts do not work in the toilet tissue factory nor invent the stuff.
  • The big “gold guides” are made to make $$ money, not to ‘help’.
  • The actual writers are a mixture of normal players who want to make a small amount of money (eg $50 per section) and professional editors from elance or odesk who stick it all together.
  • They get their updates from blogs, because it’s easier to cut n paste from websites than youtube vids or twitch livestreaming. I know this cause I found my own blog on one of the paid guides once.
  • They are pretty comprehensive.
  • But you can get most of their stuff from surfing the web. It’s just easier for some people to follow step by step rather than hunting it all down.
  • Some people say it’s written very patronising as if you were in kindergarten.
  • They will try and “upsell” as many more guides as they can.

It’s not pathetic to buy something about gold making if 1) you want it and 2) the packaging/delivery/convenience works for you

If you have the time, the experience, the interest, it’s also absolutely ok to NOT buy a gold guide, and to work it all out for yourself. The best guide is one that works for you.  My guide would be something that could be individually and uniquely tailored to each buyer.

In the meantime, here is my Free Gold Making Email Course.  And here is my link to Hayden Hawke’s Secret Gold Guide if you want to check it out for yourself. Would I buy it?  Yeah, I’m nosy.

Thanks for the chat, Gold Queen

I launched my Free Gold Making Email Course over the weekend, and livestreamed on Twitch.TV to promote it.

Totally thrilled that 136 players have joined the Gold Making email course in the first 24 hours.

What can you learn?

1. The reason why you don’t have gold
2. All the ways to make gold
3. A tour around your garrison gold factory
4. How to farm like a pro
5. How to set up your addons to make gold automatically.
6. Which professions are the best, and how to use yours best.
7. Does buy low sell high work?
8. How to manipulate the long tail of the Warcraft economy and cash in on thousands of low prices items in vast quantities.
9. What’s the point of a daily routine?
10. How to steadily, and gently slaughter your AH competitors.
11. How the secret of future gold lies in the past
12. A snatch list for transmog items, ready to use.
13. How to make sure your customers come back time and again

course

I’m able to do this for free because the course is based on my blog posts from over the years, put together with an introduction, an explanation, a reading list and a quest-style homework practical challenge for you.

It’s delivered over 3 months, 13 weekly emails about one page long.   If you decide to sign up, you may need to check your PROMO or SPAM folders and move me into your INBOX because it might count as “commercial” because I use a commercial provider to deliver the emails.   There is one email in the middle that is an advert for Zygor’s guides that you can read or ignore.

I’m loving the positive feedback I get, and hope that it makes you rich

The Spectral Tiger Owner’s Club

The Spectral Tiger Owner’s Club is a column featuring the elite gold makers of World of Warcraft who have bought the expensive Trading Card Game Mount “Spectral Tiger”, either the rare blue, tiger, or the epic purple tiger mount.

Today we have Cat who will be sharing her success story.

Spectral Tiger

Please tell us a little about yourself, how long you have been playing Warcraft, and what parts of it you enjoy the most.

My toons name is Starkissed/suzanah I play on Cenarion Circle. I am 33 years old, I have 3 children, 4 cats, 1 dog, my husband is a disabled veteran. I have been playing Warcraft since June 2007. I have found that I enjoy collecting mounts, making gold, leveling toons (I currently have 5 level 100’s, working on my 6th).

I also love running guilds and own 2 guilds, both have approximately 800-900 members in it. I also enjoy helping others out in WoW, new players I love. My motto is “Love the noobs! One day they could be the best player you’ve ever run with”.

When did you see your first Spectral Tiger mount, and how did you feel?

It was about August or September of 2007, so right around when they came out. I was in love with it, but had no idea about mounts except that I loved my black stallion that I hunted down and eventually located in Southshore, back before mounts were account bound.

I honestly fell in love with the spectral tiger but when asked about it, no one would tell me how to get it. It wasn’t until a year later when I started playing the WoW TCG I would find out how to get it.

How long did it take you to get the gold you needed for the Spectral Tiger?

Once I buckled down & stated the spectral would be my next mount, 3 weeks I went from 100g to 669k gold so that gave me more then enough for it. (Yes, you saw that correctly…I said 100g)

How much did your Spectral Tiger cost?

525k gold, although this is a funny story. The guy who I sought out to purchase it from, he said he had one and if he sold it, he would sell it for 500k but that he was considering keeping it for himself, due to the fact its getting harder to obtain. I offered him 525k gold to get the mount and even told him the gold was on the horde side, so he told me he would put it in the auction house. I had a toon waiting to retrieve it. I bought that mount.
Cat with her Spectral Tiger Mount

Cat with her Spectral Tiger Mount

How did you get the gold you needed to pay for it? Did you use professions, garrisons, sell services for other players, or work the Auction House?

It was a mixture of ways, I played the auction house, my main is a farmer (skinning/mining) so I used that. I generally don’t like the garrisons so I didn’t use them. I sold healing services from my Druid, taxi services to people who needed taxis, but the funniest way was actually when I decided to put a bunch of simple flours on the auction house for 20k gold each…someone bought them and then whispered me asking me for the gold back saying he didn’t mean to buy those ones. I told him I wasn’t giving him back the gold and that he would learn his lesson. He doesn’t know it, but that was the day I not only had the money for my mount, but was able to buy my sister her dream mount as well (the crimson death charger) so I bought my sister her death charger and then hoarded my gold. I also ran dungeons and LFRs, and played the auction house.  I lived in the auction house practically.

Thinking about how you made the gold you needed, how did you learn how to make it? Was it an easy process or was it a steep learning curve?

I learned to make the gold through your blog, Just My Two Copper [an extint gold blog] when they were around, and learning what worked for me, and what didn’t. It was actually a very easy process for me.

What addons, if any, do you use to help you make gold?

Zygor’s Gold & Auction Guide, Tradeskill Master (Mainly for the shopping list features)

Do you have any other gold making goals? Are there other mounts you want to own? Do you already have other status symbols?

I have never been gold capped before, so that’s my goal, right now. I have already built back up to about 170k, and I make anywhere between 20-60k a week in the Auction house. I want to own the Mottled Drake and other WoW TCG mounts. I do have the Ghostly Charger, my husband bought me that one from Amazon, and I bought the Wooly White Rhino loot card off my dad, so in regards of status symbols, I do have 2 other WoW TCG mounts.

I am currently working towards getting a stables in my hunters garrison, so that I may get those mounts. So that’s my next “mount” goal in WoW.

What makes the Spectral Tiger so special? And when you got it, did you celebrate in any particular way?

The rarity of the Spectral Tiger, the fact that I never thought I would own it. My dad buys me Zygors Gold Guide for my birthday, and then challenges me to come up with 500k by a month and a half. so I had from May till June 2015 to come up with it. I had the gold within 3 weeks. I think that’s also what made it so special, because I beat a challenge. When I got it, I did celebrate. I made a video, here I will share a link of my video. In the video you see me buying the tiger as well as my personal celebration of it: World of Warcraft: Me buying the swift spectral tiger  I also took a screenshot & called everyone I knew.  I had to tell the world: My ultimate dream mount was finally mine.

Do you have any special gold making tips that you would like to share?

NEVER EVER EVER give up! Never settle for less then your goal, don’t listen to others who might say “Oh don’t spend 25g to buy that and resell it, you will just lose gold instead of profit” The best thing you can ever do is give it a shot, you have no idea how often my husband has told me that something wouldn’t work (it didn’t work for him) but then it would work for me. I ran the Pets market for the longest time, it’s died down now, but I still run pets every so often. Just keep at it, be patient, set a goal in mind. Start small and work your way up. Use addons, and do not be afraid to ask for guidance. Also, watching youTube videos from WTBgold (he doesnt actually want to buy gold, he just gives visuals on how to make gold) or reading the gold queens blog and utilizing Zygors resources, it really is a big help and worth the time.

What are your future plans with WoW?

I would like to have a level cap in every class, and own as many mounts as possible. My main future plan is to never stray away from having fun. If that means I never raid again, so be it.

Anything else to add?

There are many ways to make gold in the game whether you play the auction house, sell challenge modes or farm old raids. While this is what worked for me, other people might prefer other gold making methods. I truly believe that you can get any of the rare mounts in the game that you want as long as you are willing to put in the time, effort and dedication.

It might feel like it’s taking forever to make gold, some days… but don’t lose hope.

Anything else to add?

I really just want to help people, and feel I can do so by leveling up and learning as much as I can about classes. I would like to continue writing my blog. I write blogs on running successful guilds and I make YouTube videos, so this is something I have fun with and would like to continue in the future. In the end, even in a game such as wow it is perfectly okay to set goals, yes some may seem tedious or ridiculous to others.

I don’t pvp, I don’t raid. You have no idea how many times I hear “if you dont raid or pvp, then what do YOU do?” as if that is the only thing in the game. I always tell them the same thing, which is what I would like to remind your readers of. “There is more to wow then raiding and pvping. If you’re not having fun raiding or pvping, why do them? You can level up, make gold, farm pets or mounts, or even just help new players…”

“There is more to wow then raiding and pvping. If you’re not having fun raiding or pvping, why do them?”

Never forget where you came from or where you started. I haven’t and it is that experience I use to try to make things just a little better for new players coming in, or long time hiatus players coming back. Never forget your origins in the game, never forget you were once new to. If that means you need to at least guide someone where to go make a few gold pieces, so be it. Its better then ignoring that beggar in your city who just doesn’t know how to make gold.

Thanks Cat, and welcome to the Spectral Tiger Owners Club!

Cross Realm Farming Part 4 – Camping Limited Supply Items

In Part 3, you discovered that your ore and your herbs were not safe on your servers, and could be farmed and plucked from under your nose by cross realm gold makers and gold farmers.

Today we extend that to include your rare and expensive items.

This screenshot is from wowhead showing the items available to purchase from a certain vendor in Moonglade.  Three robes are sold across Azeroth, and three are rare limited supply items.

Limited supply items are those which are not constantly available for purchase from the vendor.  Their spawn times vary.

Screenshot_66

All three of the rare robes sell for more than their purchase price, with the Formal Dangui the rarest of them all. Reports of months of waiting for spawn of this robe are common.

No More Camping

You can cut down on that camping time by checking all the servers, not just your own, using cross-realm assist.

I picked up both of the hanboks but no sign of a Dangui.

You would have to be very lucky or very persistent to pick up a Formal Dangui, but there are many other limited supply items available in game.  Right next to the dangui vendor is a male night elf who sells Pattern: Runecloth Robe and others.

Other Camping /Farming Spots

A bit bored of camping the vendors in Moonglade, I went to Winterspring (see my Winterspring farming guide here) and I picked up more limited supply items.
