Isle of Thunder Farming
In the same way that we recently revisited Timeless Isle, I’ve been researching whether returning to Isle of Thunder, in Pandaria, is a good gold making resource for World of Warcraft players.
You will need to be a mid-geared level 90, or preferably a level 100 character to farm here.
With so many ways to make gold on Isle of Thunder, it would be easy to become bogged down in the detail, so during the research I focused on obtaining some of the most profitable items.
Approx Market Values (Dec 2015)
Sealed Tome of the Lost Legion EU 20,000g, US 25-30k
Filthling pet EU & US 2-3,000g,
Sunreaver Micro-Sentry pet EU 1-1.5k , US 2-3,000g
Sealed Tome of the Lost Legion
This one is for the warlock farmers in World of Warcraft.
The Sealed Tome of the Lost Legion drops from rare mobs on the Isle of Thunder.
2% chance means that on average you need 50 kills.
There are several rares around Isle of Thunder. In the days before Cross Realm Assist, you would have needed to navigate the Isle, on foot, because there is no flying in this area. If you still want to do this, you can use TomTom and NPC_Scan addons to find the rares.

NPC_scan addon will pick up the Isle of Thunder rares for you automatically. All the rares spawn in the same points or roam in a very small area nearby.
Now that Cross Realm Assist and Group Finder allow easy realm hopping, it’s quicker to stay in one area, and jump realms to make the rares come to you instead. I recommend that area of the South Coast.
South Coast Rares
Ra’sha
Ku’lai the Skyclaw
and Haywire Sunreaver Construct
These three rares are all within easy reach of each other, if you find you have exhausted one rare spawn point and want to try another, you don’t need to travel far.
Who can loot this?
The item is only lootable by warlocks.
You can see the item in the rare mob if it drops – but you won’t meet the requirements to loot it as a non-warlock.
You can still loot another one after you’ve completed the green fire quest.
Warlocks can loot more than one, but can only hold 1 in your inventory because they are “unique”.
So simply loot one and put it on the AH, then go farm another one.
Haywire Sunreaver Construct
This rare drops a tradeable pet, the Sunreaver Micro-Sentry. Although bind on pickup, once learned, it can be caged and then sold, traded, or posted on the auction house. Keep cross realm jumping until the pet drops from the Haywire Sunreaver Construct on the beach at the south of Ihgaluk Crag.
When we researched and tried this on the livestream, the droprate was pretty low. So we moved on to investigate another nearby pet
Filthling
The Filthling pet drops from the nearby filth pits of the saurok mobs just to the north of the Haywire Construct rare spawn area. Kill the Quivering Filth mobs to cause a larger, elite Quivering Filth to spawn. It’s the larger elites that drop the Half-Empty Food Container. When you loot the BoP item, learn it, then find it in your pet journal, and right click to cage it. Once it’s caged, you can put it on the Auction House.
Filthlings sell for 2-3,000g at time of writing (December 2015)

Prices
If you are reading this blog post in the future (hello from the past!) then these items should still drop, and you can check the prices on The Undermine Journal or at Wowuction.com

If the guy is NOT listed here, then I haven’t had opportunity to review and check out the quality of their work, and so don’t recommend them yet.
I won’t be keeping this list up to date, this is a snapshot of World of Warcraft gold makers and some farmers in December 2015
Some gold makers and farmers welcome questions 24/7, but it is always best to be polite. Follow my how to ask questions guide
Gold makers I have recommended do focus on making gold, on understanding or manipulating the realm economy, dealing with competitors, handing sales, addons such as trade skill master and auctionator, and will help you with a daily routine, quests, and professions.
I struggle with the number of farmers on youtube offering x,000g per hour, but not able to explain the selling part, and I struggle with players on twitch who showcase farming either the old Mists of Pandaria Vale/Guo Lai Halls or AQ20 paired with Phat Lewt’s transmog list. This would be better described as item acquisition.
Being left out of the gold makers list does not mean that these are bad gold makers, perhaps I simply don’t have enough experience in order to recommend the resource to you yet.

Flipping Minion of Grumpus, Buy to Resell
Flipping means buying an item to resell at a higher price.
It’s time to buy your Minion of Grumpus
Even if you do not intend to resell your Minion of Grumpus, you can use my advice to acquire a mount for yourself.
This advice was first broadcast on my twitter account on afternoon of 23 December 2015. Follow me on twitter for more.
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 2015
Today and tomorrow, keep your eye on Minion of Grumpus prices.
Why keep an eye on Minion of Grumpus mounts?
We are halfway through the Winters Veil holiday in World of Warcraft.
Halfway until the mounts stop being available.
Halfway until the price explosion.
The Mount is only available during Winter Veil seasonal event so once it is over, the supply available will only be the number that have been hoarded in player’s banks. No one will be able to open a Savage Gift when the Winter Veil dailies, granting merry supplies, are no longer available.
How much should I pay for my Minion of Grumpus
I don’t know the exact prices on your server. Not only is each server different, and each area (EU/US/ANZ) but this is a mount that has not been seen before. Players are generally undercutting each other slightly on the AH and then selling for however much the buyer will pay. No set price.
What I do know, however, is the expected price curve for the Minion of Grumpus. While I can’t see the future, it’s possible to extrapolate and predict the changes in prices, using previous models.
We know that supply and demand effect the prices and numbers of mounts available. We know that after January, you won’t be able to get more mounts until possibly next Winter Veil.
That’s why I can predict a price curve similar to other rare mounts in short supply.
A quick MS-Paint graph shows my prediction for the prices of your Minion of Grumpus
(I’m not great at MS-Paint, don’t judge!)
Beginning with a high price at beginning of Winter Veil.
Increasing supply drives down the prices.
Awareness of a coming end-of-supply starts to drive up prices.
However, nervousness about the actual value of the mount and unsureness about whether prices are going to climb is going to create a few “bumps” at the bottom of the price curve, as players attempt to buy the mount at its lowest value, only for sellers to react by pulling out mounts from their bank, before they realise that the price is ready to climb and deciding to save their mount instead. As this supply dries up, prices will climb.
The midway point of Winter Veil is about the right time for the “bumpy bottom” of the price curve.
If your price at the bottom is 40,000g, expect it to be 80,000g at the end of Winter Veil, and if it is 60,000g expect 100-110k by the end, with prices continuing to rise.
The speed of the climb/rise in prices depends entire on the greediness of the sellers on your realm compared to their patience. Personally, I can wait for years with an item, and have recently made some sales of Scarlet Mail sets and Elementium Geodes. Naturally other players are different and might just want to cash in and reinvest their gold, or simply spend it.
Once we get through that, “nervous bumpy bottom” then the rise will be steady
My MS-Paint price prediction was backed up by The Undermine Journal, brought to my attention by Sivation on twitter
These are the prices (with supply in red) of the Swift Lovebird. You can clearly see the effect of the Valentines seasonal event on supply and prices.
I predict a steeper and higher amount for the Minion of Grumpus simply because this is the first year it is seen. Remember how the Swift Lovebird was higher in demand in its first year of release? There is less demand the subsequent years.
Remember
Only a small percentage of all mounts are on the AH. MANY are in ppl’s banks, waiting.
Minion of Grumpus Mount price changes
If you are on a busy server, the prices could change from minute to minute
I would also keep an eye on all the other items that drop from savage gift, although their curve wont be as steep, as they were available in other ways and continue to be so.
To put my money where my mouth is, I bought a Grumpus, just to test waters. Prices since increased. I still think there will be some bumps at the turning point due to nerves.
Be prepared for a temporary increase in supply (and low price bump) on xmas day due to ppl logging on to get presents.
What to do?
So just keep an eye out between now and xmas day for that turning point.
There will be a few false starts due to nerves and then BOOM

On the first day of Winters Veil, my true love gave to me …
Winter Patterns
Players with Leatherworking, Tailoring or Cooking receive mail from Greatfather Winter with free patterns this year (2015).
Tailors get either Green Winter Clothes (Horde) or Red Winter Clothes (Alliance) patterns.
Leatherworkers get the Winter Boots recipe and players with cooking get Hot Apple Cider recipe.
To activate your free gift, do the short breadcrumb quest beginning at a smokywood pastures goblin to visit Greatfather Winter in Orgrimmar or Ironforge. < – awaiting confirmation
Red winter clothing
Materials
4 Bolt of Runecloth (16 Runecloth)
Bolt of Woolen Cloth (3 Wool Cloth)
Red Dye (2)
Rune Thread
The pattern is also sold by Alliance Smokeywood Pastures in Stormwind, Exodar, Ironforge or Garrision. The goblin vendors are FRIENDLY to horde, and if you can sneak past the guards, you can pick one up at the Alliance vendor! It costs only 50s and it’s bind on pick up, so only buy it with a character with Tailoring profession. Alternatively, you could take the easy way out and pick one up in your horde garrison. Alliance tailors receive this as a gift on the first day of winters veil.
Green winter clothing
Materials
4 Bolt of Runecloth (uses 16 Runecloth)
Bolt of Woolen Cloth (uses 3 Wool Cloth)
Green Dye (2)
Rune Thread
The pattern is also sold by Horde Smokeywood Pastures in Shattrath, Exodar, Undercity, Orgrimmar or Thunder Bluff.
Again, some of the goblin vendors are FRIENDLY to Alliance, the pattern costs 50s and it’s bind on pick up, so only buy it with a character with Tailoring profession. Best place to try is Eebee Jinglepocket in Shattrath. If you’re a horde tailor, you should have received it from Greatfather Winter already.
Winter Boots
The Winter Boots are a BoP Leatherworking pattern.
Available to both factions, and purchasable by the Smokywood Pasture goblins, including in your garrison, Shattrath and your capital cities.
Materials
Copper Bar
Bolt of Woolen Cloth (3 Wool Cloth)
4 Rugged Leather
Rune Thread
The Winter Veil hat is a BoP drop from some dungeon and raid bosses. It completes your outfit.
Not a tailor or a leatherworker, don’t worry, Greatfather Winter has some profession-specific recipes in the mail for you too.
Profiting from Winter Veil Clothes
For beginners to crafting, simply check that the materials cost is lower than the AH sales price (minus 5% cut) and if so, post your crafted item.
Sell Price minus Crafting Price = Profit
Supply and Demand
However, you will have to take into account the other sellers, and of course the demand of buyers. Too high a price, and the buyers will not buy, instead waiting for the price to drop. During that time, more sellers will continue to undercut each other, perhaps creating walls (where several items are posted at the same price to block off any higher prices) or even anxiously deep undercutting each other.
I saw a flood of winter veil clothes and boots at the beginning of winter veil, when players who had saved up their materials flooded the auction house. I’m now noticing that this flood has died down and more gold can now be made in the middle of Winter Veil than at the very first 1-2 days.
You can watch the supply and demand on your own server auction house simply by searching the item and taking note of the price. Do this a few times during the day over the course of the holiday season and you’ll soon get a grasp of how many are selling for what price. For players who aren’t in the Auction House as much, you can do something similar by searching your item at Wowuction.com (that’s wow auction without the a)
You can easily see when Winters Veil hit, and the supply increased and price dropped.
Posting
Put too many on Auction House at once, and you risk being soon undercut and losing your AH deposit. Post more than 2-3 if you want to create a wall and send a message to competitors “this far and no further” but be aware that there is a cost to you for creating a wall.
React to your market
I advise you to put up 2-3 of each item for now, and then check to see what happens. If undercut, the market is saturating. If they are bought immediately, perhaps they were slightly underpriced and you could risk a slightly higher price with the next posting. If they sell within half an hour to an hour, then make another few more, and post those, restocking the AH.
Flipping
With winter clothing and winter boots’ materials so easily and cheaply obtained, there is no opportunity for flipping. Flipping, you remember, means buy low and resell at a profit. However, you can see that the price for winter clothing was considerably higher in September. So if you are determined to buy for resale, you might make a profit in September 2016!
Other opportunities with Winter Clothing set
If your server market is totally saturated with both red and green clothing and winter boots, you can travel backwards up the crafting chain.
For example, recently I found that woolen cloth was selling for a high price compared to both its normal selling price, and the normal crafting cost of the materials (wool cloth). So if the end product isn’t profitable, other parts of the crafting process could be. Check all the parts of course.
On the first day of winter veil, a murloc gave to me …
Everyone knows that on the first day of Winters Veil, the correct gift is a gnome’s head in a pine tree!
