Social Herbing in Warcraft Legion

Remember Social Fishing at the end of Warlords of Draenor?

Several players could join a garrison group and fish together and share the loot.

Social Herbing is when a group of players work together to share their loot.

Part 2: Seed Raid Farming

In part 1 of this series I covered collecting herbs in a group of guildies.

Here’s another awesome way to get thousands of herbs: from cooperatively planting seeds and sharing the herbs that spawn.

What is a seed raid in Warcraft?

From the Guide to Seed Raids on Reddit:

“a seed raid is a raid of up to 10 people joining to plant their Legion herbalism seeds and gather the herb nodes that spawn. This works because as you may know, up to 10 characters can gather the same herb node during the 15 seconds after the herb is gathered, and planting a seed of a specific herb causes an herb node to spawn.”

Prerequisites:

  1. Herbalist over level 100, with rank 3 Felwort, (and preferably Aethril rank 3)
  2. 25, 30, 50, or 100 seeds, depending on the decision of the leader.  Aethril, Dreamleaf, Fjarnskaggl, Foxflower, and Starlight Rose Seeds are used.  Not Felwort or Yseralline seeds, sorry.  NOTE If you don’t have Felwort rank 3, you’ll be asked to bring extra seeds because you won’t be looting seeds during the raid.
  3. Weak auras with a special weak auras string.
  4. Discord, if you want to use the discord group to group up.
  5. An addon to speed up looting, I use Autolootplus, downloaded from Curse.
  6. Check the Reddit Seed Raid guide, and the FAQ / Help pages on the Discord server.
  7. A cooperative and friendly spirit!

” The WoW Seed Raid Discord is an excellent community resource, it was taken over by some members to restructure it and support the seed raid organisers (of which there are over a dozen between both factions and regions). There are very simple guidelines that are described before each raid and everyone is very helpful in answering questions. If the seeds are cheap on your realm it might be worth looking in to, I’d certainly recommend it!  ” Gumdrops from Trade Skill Master

These screenies were posted by players organising their seed raids in discord

If this is the amount of herbs you would like to gather in one farm, get yourself over to the discord and help organise a seed raid.

Social Herbing in Warcraft Legion

Remember Social Fishing at the end of Warlords of Draenor?

Several players could join a garrison group and fish together and share the loot.

Social Herbing is when a group of players work together to share their loot.

Part 1: Guild Herb Farming

Social Herbalism Addon

Old MacDonalds

This is a simple addon that tracks the amount of herbal loot gathered by each player in the group, including herbs, seeds, even blood of sargeras.

About Addon

Old MacDonald was written for people who want a basic addon to track herbed materials. The idea came from forming seed parties and wanting to split the fox droppings evenly; there was no way to tell who was being honest about how much they looted.  And so came this simple counter addon that tracks the following loot:

  • -Legion Herbs
  • -Legion Herb Seeds
  • -Blood of Sargeras
  • -Fox Poop

Usage

  • /omd report – prints a list of looted herbalism materials to the console
  • /omd reset – resets the count (nothing will show up in reports at this point)
  • /omd pause – stops the counter (use when someone trades you or you are taking from mail)
  • /omd resume – resumes the counter

The Guild Herb raid is a nice social event, probably best scheduled before or after a raid, so that all the herbalists in the guild can farm the herb route together for crafting alchemy flasks for raiders.

Let the most experienced herbalist be the leader, he or she will know the best routes.

Keeping the herbalist raid short will encourage players to return for the next time. So will rewarding players with a flask or two for at raid time.

Extend the invitation to raiders with herbalist alts over level 100.

Even level 101s can farm Starlight Rose, especially in a pack of 10 players, the rest being a higher level.  Grab gatherer or gathermate2, to check nodes and share node spawns (when herbs grow, or appear, on the ground).

Run together in an organised route, rather than each finding their own separate way. Otherwise, there is a tendency for players to shout “I FOUND ONE!” and everyone to gallop to that position, only to miss out on the spawn due to timing, and not everyone getting the maximum amount of loot from each node spawn.

Feasibly you could also do this for ore farming, as this also has shareable loot. However there is a lot less call for lumps of metal by raiders than there is for flasks!

This is part 1 of a 2 part series in Social Herbing.  Next blog guide:  Seed Raid Farming

Bonus: Aethril map!

How to level Battle Pets to 25 in Legion

During Warlords of Draenor, “super squirt” was the codewords whispered between gold makers, which meant that there was a rare event that allowed players to quickly level up battle pets. A garrison menagerie visitor, led by a child called ‘Squirt’ gave super fast pet leveling.

As you may know, battle pets at level 25 sell for more gold than brand new level 1 pets.

In Legion, the codeword is “Andurs” and you will be battling Mini Musken.  The battle is even faster than Squirt in Warlords of Draenor!

The only drawback is that this is an irregular random event and you must watch out for it on your daily World Quest list.

UPDATE THIS METHOD HAS NOW BEEN NERFED. LEFT ON WEBSITE FOR ARCHIVING

The battle was discovered by XuFu’s pets, my favourite pet battle website.

Bring with you:

  • Lots of bandages.
  • Your safari hat if you have one.
  • Lots of pet snacks: Pet treat increases pet xp by 50% for an hour. I bought mine at the Garrison menagerie and mailed them over.
  • Rare level 25 Iron Starlette pet.  If you don’t have one, level one up using other methods.

In the same way that Squirt was only an occasional visitor to your garrison menagerie during Warlords of Draenor, Andurs is also only an occasional visitor to the Broken Isles.  He is found with his battle-mate Rydyr in Stormheim.  Fly in to Valdisdall.

Your pet team:

  • 1 Iron Starlette with Wind up, Toxic Smoke, and Explosion.
  • 2 low level pets of any type

Totally ignore Rydyr, and talk to Andurs to start a pet battle.

  • Round 1
  • Iron Starlette Use Toxic Smoke
  • Round 2
  • Iron Starlette Use Wind Up
  • Round 3
  • Iron Starlette Use Toxic Smoke
  • Round 4
  • Iron Starlette Use Wind Up
  • Round 5
  • Iron Starlette Use Explode.
  • Iron Starlette Explodes, killing both Mini Musken and your Iron Starlette.  Your two low level pets pets get all the XP.

After the battle with Andurs DO NOT TALK TO RYDYR.  Talk again to Andurs and ask to battle him.

Under no circumstances talk to Rydyr

Repeat the battle with another set of low level pets, or continue leveling your current pets to 25. It takes 5-6 battles

Thank you once again to XuFu’s Pet Battles!

Battle Pet level 25 Prices

Once your cageable pets are level 25, sell them on the Auction House.  Here is my favourite site for battle pet prices.

https://wow-pets.com/pets

How to profit from leveling battle pets from level 1 to level 25

  1. Buy a level 1 pet from the Auction House or farm it.
  2. Use the pet, so that it is in your pet collection
  3. Level the pet from level 1 to 25 using this method
  4. At level 25, right click the pet in your collection to cage it.
  5. Sell the caged level 25 pet on the Auction House
  6. Profit!

December Items to Flip on the Auction House

Transmogs
Why? Because everyone is focusing on Warcraft:Legion instead of looking at old dungeons/raids so the supply is lower. Especially the rarer items. I recently got 500k for some Glorious Legplates that I had previously bought for 110k and held on to for 2 months

Worm Supreme
Why? Everyone has forgotten about how cheap these were in WoD and now their price is picking up again. They continue to be valuable bait for players leveling their fishing and fishing artifact.

Medium, thick, and rugged leather.
How? Buy from alts who are leveling, sell to main characters who are crafting transmog items for sale.

Battle pets.
How? Buy level 1 battle pets, level them to level 25, sell for at least 1,000g more. Don’t know how to level battle pets? I recommend Xu-fu’s guide and Hazelnutty games on youtube.

Medallion of the Legion
Yes, these are still flippable!

Jawless Skulker Fish/Flesh
Why? Players are dumping old Warlords of Draenor materials on the auction house. This particular fish is used to craft Draenic Invisibility Potions which sell well to players completing mythic+ dungeons.  Alternatively, hire a level 90+ peon (ahem, I mean alt) to fish for you in Gorgrond for an hour.

Snowballs
Wait, what!? Buy them for under 20s each when they are free to pick up during Winter Veil (16 December 2016 onwards).  Sell them throughout the year for over 100g. Yes, really. All types.

Old/Legacy herbs
How? Players leveling their alts or maybe for the first time are dumping singles, odd numbers of these on the Auction House for under 50s.  Buy, gather them somewhere until they are at least 20 in a stack, and sell in regular size stacks (100, 20, 10) on the Auction House for 2g each.  Obviously this doesn’t apply to expensive herbs such as wildvine, purple lotus.

Darkmoon Firewater
How? Buy during Darkmoon Faire for very low such as 1g, sell afterwards for maybe 20 times the amount you paid. This chart from the Undermine Journal shows a very dependable cycle of high quantity/low price, followed by low quantity/high price.

The Season for Giving… and Getting Rich

Winter Veil is upon us! There are many ways to get rich in World of Warcraft at Christmas, but this year let’s do the most fun way: a competition.

Winter Veil Competition

We’re going to be selling festive wrapping paper in all its colors, keeping a track of the sales and guessing which color paper will make the most gold this Christmas time.

Learn Gold Making

We can also use this as a learning exercise.  You can learn

  1. Where to find items.
  2. How to estimate their selling prices.
  3. How to sell, in what stack size, at what time, and therefore to who.
  4. Look at how public knowledge of an item affects supply.
  5. Tracking and comparing sales.
  6. Making buying decisions based on tracked sales.

Red Ribboned Wrapping Paper

Winter Veil Wrapping Paper

  • When: NOW.  Players are giving gifts now, not just on 25 December.
  • How: Stacks of 1.  Experiment with other stack sizes, but start with 1.
  • Post: All day long. Experiment with 12 hour, 24 hour or 48 hour expiration times
  • How much: Check the current Undermine Journal prices.  Aim for maximum of 200% of current market, with a lowest posting price of 50%, and a 500% of vendor price as an absolute minimum.

Add a Vendoring (buying only!) operation, and then an auctioning operation

Buy paper from a vendor

Post on the Auction House

Profit

The work does not end after the profit.

Type /TSM accounting to open the accounting module and search for the wrapping paper group.

Here’s my pre-Christmas data.  I’ll be looking at it again at 1/4, 1/2 and then 3/4 of the way through the season to make adjustments

So far, red is in the lead!

Why Gold Making Blogs, Livestreams, Podcasts, and Websites are No Longer Enough.

Here’s the situation

Lets take a step back to Patch 7.0 pre-Legion gold making advice found on websites, blogs, and twitch live streams.

  1. Everyone knows about Fel Spreaders.
  2. Everyone knows about Fel Bat Pups.
  3. Everyone knows about Lucky Shirts.
  4. A few people know about Charred Locket.
  5. Everyone is fishing and dumping their fish, and fished up items on the AH.
  6. No-one knows about Garrison changes, and intend to never return.

How does this translate to 7.1 ?

  1. There are one billion Fel Spreaders on the AH.
  2. There are one billion Fel Bat Pups on the AH.
  3. Lucky Shirts are unique and nobody got time to manage the hassle of storing unique items. So their prices are holding and UP.
  4. Charred Lockets are selling well but slower.
  5. All the fish got sold. And now players want cheap invisibility potions for Mythic+ so [Crescent Saberfish] and [Jawless Skulker] are now RARE and HOLDING their prices.  7.1 cooking is making bank, so materials are still holding their prices, so fishing makes gold, so people want those [Worm Supremes] from Garrison Fishing Raids. In 7.0 you vendored them.  In 7.1 they are worth 20g each. Same with compasses.
  6. Garrisons are making bank.  Medallion of the Legion still sell for 3-4,000g.  Herbs sell. Gems sell.

Why did the advice not work?

Let me tell you a story.

When gold making started, ten years ago, the gold making community looked like this:

screenshot_330 screenshot_329 screenshot_328

It was hard to read, hard to access, only a very few people expressed their ideas. It was rare. “Gold Guru” was actually a thing.

Now, gold making looks like this

screenshot_331

and this

screenshot_332

Anyone can be a Warcraft Gold Maker,* and invariably they are.  Every new patch, every new expansion along comes another dozen with their AMAZING insights that no one has ever heard before, honest. And then they disappear, leaving behind the exact same advice, whatever is “trending” in a flourish of personality-driven videos content.

*although “farmer” has become the popular term, this is actually an insult to gold makers

What do you think happens when 70-80% of your server are watching the exact same spoon-fed videos? Oh, come on!

67284486

Why Gold Making Blogs, Livestreams, Podcasts, and Websites are No Longer Enough.

Because everyone else is using them.

What can you do instead?

  1. Listen to your customers/buyers instead of your peers/competitors/bloggers/streamers
  2. Trust your experience
  3. Constantly reevaluate old content to see if others have forgotten useful information
  4. Don’t follow the herd blindly
  5. Always ask WHY instead of HOW

We’re living in a post-truth world, where making personality-driven videos that support the trending gold-farming idea is more desirable than actual useful advice.

And that’s why I’m committed to bringing you a mixture:

  • Old stuff, re-examined.
  • Ideas for inspiration.
  • Those click-bait trendy ideas.
  • The theory behind the farms.
  • Re-engineering the gold making process.
  • Thoughts on the warcraft economy, and on ethics/morals in trading.
