Consumables for Mage Tower Challenge
The Mage Tower challenge is ending with Battle for Azeroth.
After Warcraft patch 8.0 you can still earn some of your artifact appearances but not the base Mage Tower ones.
The Mage Tower base appearance must be earned during Legion, but the tints can be unlocked after Legion
Which consumables for Mage Tower?
Mage tower consumables are much like raid consumables. Pre-raid, you would make sure you were fully gemmed and enchanted. Then you would also grab food, flasks, potions, maybe drums or augment runes.
Other items that *might* be usable:
[Brazier of Awakening] if timed right
[Slyvan Elixir] Can be used inside Agatha’s challenge only. It gives you a 10% stats buff.
Mats are Dreamleaf and Ancient Healing Potion (from Yseralline Seeds)
Mage Tower Flasks
You want to use [Flask of the Countless Armies] even as a tank. The materials for this is Starlight Rose, Aethril and Foxflower.
Healers, grab [Flask of the Whispered Pact]. The materials for this are Starlight Rose, Fjarnskaggl, and Dreamleaf.
Mage Tower Potions
[Lightblood Elixir] for Agatha – as it does extra damage to demons. The material used is Astral Glory herb.
Otherwise, [Potion of Prolonged Power] which is crafted by an alchemist with Bind on Pickup [Blood of Sargeras]
Mage Tower Drums
[Drums of Fury] are crafted by leatherworkers, these work like a Heroism/Bloodlust buff. You need 5 Raw Beast Hide.
Mage Tower Food
You want to use [Spiced Falcosaur Omelet] which is crafted with super cheap Falcosaur Eggs. Pick these up when you’re farming your Stonehide Leather from falcosaurs.
Otherwise, [Bear Tartare] is the food of choice, as this also gives increased movement speed. The mats are Fatty Bearsteak from bears, and River Onion from the Dalaran cooking vendors.
Mage Tower Runes
Not all players have their Lightforged Augment Rune and Felpurposed Fel Focuser, especially if they are trying to get Mage Tower appearances on their alt/s.
Sell them [Defiled Augment Rune]s. Pick these up from Raid bosses, or flip them on the auction house. As a reminder, flipping something is when you buy it at a low price and resell it for a profit. How do you know what price is profitable? Trade Skill Master has an easy to use guide to market prices. Sort the prices according to percent of market value.
Here I’m using TSM4, which will be released soon (TM).
Flipping Augment Runes
Set yourself a target sale price (and remember, be flexible, this price will move over time!) and then buy items under that price, and repost for profit. How to choose a target price? By watching sales carefully, checking the maximum that the prices go to. Somewhere between the maximum and the average is where you will aim, depending on your lust for gambling or for steady profits. Remember, that target sale price is going to plummet when patch 8.0 hits so get the sales in now.
In the above TSM4 example, I see 172 runes posted at 45g, and I would set my price at 44g 99s.
When buying Defiled Augment Runes, remember to bear in mind the cost of posting the item on the AH, and the 5% sales tax! (Some players have joked that the 5% Auction House cut goes to the AH goblins, or to the goldmakers hehe)

Mage tower consumables groups and strings with Tradeskill Master
It is very likely, if you are a Tradeskill Master user, that you already have groups made which include the Mage Tower items.
If this is so, then make sure you create a brand new profile before making this group. Otherwise, either the items will be grabbed out of their old groups and put in the new group. Or they won’t be grabbed at all and your new group won’t be effective.
How to make a new profile in TSM4
Go to “settings” and type in a new profile group name. Click ‘create new profile’

You can craft Hexweave bags for very low by using your Warlords of Draenor garrison.
You need:
- Tailoring character 100+
- Level 3 Garrison
- Follower “Fiona” or “Shadow Hunter Rala” follower with Herbalism trait (Super Easy. How? check wowhead! Fiona LINK Rala LINK )
- Tailoring ‘hut’ garrison building
For Hexweave Bags you’re going to need [hexweave cloth] and [sorcerous earth].
Hexweaved cloth is on a cooldown for tailors but you can get more, much more, from a tailoring building in your garrison
I asked my friend and gold maker Arnota to explain:
The tailoring building with the follower will give you 4 hexweave per work order instead of 2 and will give you sorcerous water and air, you also get water or air with the daily cooldown. The herb garden with a follower will allow you to pick the herb you want each day, Gorgrond flytrap is useful since you need it for daily hexweave cooldown
Hexweave Bags from your Garrison Step By Step
Step 1: Assign your herbalist follower to your garrison herb garden. (Walk to the herb garden and ask them to produce Gorgrond Flytrap.)
Step 2: Assign a tailoring follower to your level 3 garrison tailoring building.
Step 3: At your barn, take out the strong trap and travel to Nagrand. Kill elite wolves (not clefthoof, these give leatherBb) and bring back [Caged Mighty Wolf]. Turn them in to get [Sumptuous Fur] from your level 3 barn
Step 4: Prioritise your tailoring “Rush Order” quests at the garrison table
Step 5: Regularly pick up the Hexweave from your tailoring building.
Step 6: Learn the [Hexweave Bag] pattern from the tailoring trainer. It costs 5 [Secrets of Draenor]
Final Step: Craft your Hexweave Bags and set them aside for the start of Battle for Azeroth.
How much do Hexweave Bags cost?
Missing Sorcerous Earth?
Your alchemist can transmute any sorcerous to another so you can transmute air and water for earth

Children’s Week in 2018 is April 30th to May 7th, 2018.
Gold with Pets from Children’s Week 2018
Do the quests in Stormwind and Orgrimmar, even if you have done them before. The rewards from “A Warden of the Horde/Alliance” offers:
- Curmudgeon’s Payoff reward, worth 5g only
- Scooter the Snail worth 8-10,000g, depending on level
- Mr Wiggles (piglet) worth 4-10,000g, depending on level
- Whiskers the Rat, worth 9-10,000g, depending on level
- Speedy (turtle), worth 3-8,000g, depending on level
- Pet Care Package (can contain perky pug costumes, Magical Pet Biscuit, and Flawless Battle-Stone 4-5000g)
TGQ’s Advice:
Choose one of each pet for each of your alts, so that you have all your bases covered. If the prices on one pet drop, then you have the others ready to sell, and can sell the low priced one later when prices improve. Only buy for flipping if you spot an exceptionally low priced item and you’re very confident of a buyer.

TGQ’s Advice:
It might look like a no-brainer to get Legs on all your alts, but check the prices in your own Auction House on your own server before you make a choice. If you do find any pets particularly low price you could try flipping those instead. Alternatively, you could sell Legs on another server by logging an alt on another server, and caging your pet for sale there instead.

Gold with Professions from Children’s Week 2018
The achievement ‘Bad Example’ requires you to stuff your face with sweets and cake in front of your starving orphan.
Some of the items are easily obtainable, others are going to be much rarer, and that’s where we’re going to set to work to make a shedload of gold.
You’re going to need:
- Tigule and Foror’s Strawberry Ice Cream
- Red Velvet Cupcake
- Lovely Cake Slice
- Dalaran Doughnut
- Tasty Cupcake
- Delicious Chocolate Cake
- Dalaran Brownie
You can get the red velvet cupcake, dalaran donut, dalaran brownie and lovely cake from the cake vendor at the northern bank in Dalaran, and the icecream from a childrens week vendor at the banks in Stormwind and Orgrimmar.
The tasty cupcakes and delicious chocolate cake needs to be cooked by a chef with the recipes.
If you don’t have them yet, you could either work on getting them by Children’s Week, or you could find a friend or business partner to cook for you, preferably now before they get cheesed off making all the cakes that will be in demand in a few weeks. All the ingredients are found easily enough at cooking vendors or innkeepers, with two exceptions.
The easiest way to obtain the Delicious Chocolate Cake Recipe is to perform the cooking dailies in your home city (Orgrimmar/Stormwind).
The Tasty Cupcake Recipe is a drop from mobs in Northrend so any concentration of mobs can have the recipe drop. [TGQ says “how about farming for it while also hunting for the dice from the scarlet mobs at Onslaught Harbor, Icecrown]
Gold from Farming in Children’s Week 2018
Pick up the Northern Egg from the Rocs in North Scholazar Basin, Northrend (they look like brown eagles) or from Dragonbone Condors which look like vultures and hang around bones in clusters in Dragonblight, Northrend.
Small Eggs can be farmed from low level birds in Vanilla content: Good places are Westfall, Dragonhawks in Eversong Woods,
You also need Mageroyal for delicious chocolate cake. Farm some mageroyal with your herbalist in Hillsbrad or Darkshore.
Gold with Auction House Flipping in Children’s Week 2018
Northern Eggs usually cost 1g, but can sell for 20g or more. Buy now, resell during Children’s Week
Small Eggs usually cost 20s, but can sell for up for 50g!
Buy these now, picking off the cheap supply on your Auction House. Alternatively, hire a friend or guildie to farm these for you, offering him an enticing “double the current AH price”, then resell them for a profit. Diversify your income streams.
Gold from Selling Packages in Children’s Week
Buy and package a bundle together of all the cakes and candy plus your tasty cupcake and delicious chocolate cake – everything you need to complete the achievement and advertise it for sale as a whole package on Trade Chat. Of course, this depends on your skills at barking in trade chat.
/2 WTS all the cakes and candy for [Bad Example] including tasty cupcake and choc cake. 250g for full package!
Why 250g? Small Eggs @ 1-10g each x 8 plus mageroyal plus milk and port (yuck?) from vendors makes delicious cake worth 10g-200g. That’s where I found my starting figure of 250g for the entire package. What price will you charge?
Gold with Services in Children’s Week 2018
You can make gold with services as a PVPer, especially if you are part of a good team. I was luckily able to complete School of Hard Knocks achievement in the first week.
- Capture the flag in Eye of the Storm
- Assault a flag in Arathi Basin
- Assault a tower in Alterac Valley
- Return a fallen flag in Warsong Gulch
By selling services, you can charge players for temporarily joining a team of highly skilled PvPers in battlegrounds. Protect your buyer while they complete the four parts of the achievement.
Using TSM4 for more profit
If you are using TSM3 or 4, adding a string will give you quick information from the AH on how much pets are going for as well as the materials needed to make the items
for the quests.

Just as with any good thing, this can easily become a double edged sword.
Just a month ago the Battle for Azeroth expansion was opened for pre-order. Players rushed to use their Blizzard Balance as well as their Credit Cards to be the first in line. The opening for purchase of the expansion caused a quick shortage of game tokens as players took advantage of excess gold to purchase newest product from Blizzard.
Just as TGQ predicted, the prices soared. There was some scary moments!
Why is Buying Tokens Important?
When a player purchased in-game gold, they are purchasing a token that a player ‘sold’ to them.
The token was purchased by the other player for in game gold. In the U.S. to purchase the token with ‘real money’ is $20.00.
The amount of gold this is valued at depends on the current value of the token. The higher a token value is in game (purchased with in game gold) the more valuable that the token becomes.
If there is a lot of activity for tokens, like the run on tokens that occurred with the opening of pre-orders for BFA, it caused inflation on the token. This means that the in game gold costs go higher as more and more players purchase coins. At some point it can even make it so that the coins are not available until the coin stack replenishes.
Blizzard has the ability to stabilize the coin costs to keep inflation under control but they would much prefer the system to self regulate itself. So it’s not unheard of for the coins to almost double the cost in a day. If you want to see how much the tokens are going for at this moment you can check using the in game shop or go to wowtokenprices.
When you look at listing an item, overlay the idea that each sale gives you a percentage to another token at your control. If you get a mental feeling looking at each transaction as being another step towards your blizzard balance being increased or your game time increased it will change how important making gold can be for your Warcraft Gaming life.
What Could Go Wrong!
In May of 2012 Blizzard introduced Diablo 3. This extended the adventures of a world gone mad. The one of the biggest change was the introduction of a Real Money Auction House.
Players could purchase items from one of two Auction Houses. A Player could use in game gold that they obtained over time, then move those items over the Real Money Auction House to sell and make real money (transferred to a Paypal account).
This ended up being a great idea on paper, but a disastrous in execution. On March 18, 2014 Blizzard completely closed the doors on the Auction House both for regular in game gold as well as Real life money.
Item Duplication, fraud, regulatory difficulties as well as creating an unbalanced game experience were some of the reasons Blizzard announced the closing of the Auction House. Now with the expansion of purchasing power with tokens there are already rumblings of the want to convert blizzard balance into real life money. As a gamer this sounds like a great idea, but from experience with the Diablo 3 AH debacle I would be aghast to see that happen again. Hopefully this is not the future of the Auction House for World of Warcraft

Refund for purchasing the collectors edition of Battle For Azeroth
Many players hold out to purchase the physical collector edition of each World of Warcraft expansion pack. At $99.99 U.S. this is a large investment. Blizzard is offering refunds in Blizzard Balance to those that purchased the standard or Deluxe package. This disappointed many players who will end up having given Blizzard over 150 dollars . But if you think about it, there is an opportunity here to get the money back for your original purchase.
Gifting a friend the Regular or Deluxe version using your Blizzard Balance and then have them give you the money they were going to give to Blizzard.

Warcraft Mobile Auction House Dies Quietly in a Corner
Announced on April 4th so is unfortunately not a very bad April Fools’ joke, the Remote or Mobile Auction House app is being retired on 18th April.
The WoW Remote Auction House will be deactivated on April 18, 2018. On that date, you will no longer be able to view Auction House listings or make Auction House transactions through the official WoW website or the WoW Armory app, and all links will be removed from our website. After April 18, you’ll still be able to use the WoW Armory app for all other purposes, including accessing your character profiles, talent calculators, event calendars, and more.
API & Community Sites Unaffected
Some World of Warcraft community sites make use of Blizzard’s API to access Auction House–related data, and we will continue to support for that. If you regularly visit a site that accesses data from the Auction House to keep an eye on the price of fish, you (and they) can continue to do so after April 18. Carry on fish-watching to your heart’s content.
Azeroth Auctioneers Need You
In the meantime, eager auctioneers all over Azeroth are still available and conducting business as usual, so seek them out for all of your Auction House needs. Time is money, friend!
A bitter blow to the gold making community.

I feel like this is my personal failure to teach about, to promote, to explain how to use, and my failure to encourage other gold content creators to explain how to use. Because it was such a powerful and secret tool, I did not teach enough about it, and I should have done so.
Why the Mobile Auction House Matters
For posterity, the mobile auction house was used for
- Re-posting transmogs easily, because it ignored the stats (eg … of the whale)
- Re-posting trade mats easily, because these were items you would want to undercut
- Sniping and fast purchase of rare items at cheap prices – used in conjunction with The Undermine Journal fast email notification (click to learn how)
- Hiding from rapid-fire undercutting competitors who thought you had logged off
- Picking up gold from Sold Auctions
- Connecting with the auction house and watching sales prices during the day, when you were at work for example
- Posting items for sale directly from the mailbox
What about The Undermine Journal and Trade Skill Master?
The API remains unaffected, so the Undermine Journal and TSM should carry on as normal.
There had previously been some quiet worries that the Undermine Journal would be closed. This was because of the lack of API. The API was since restored, and will continue despite the loss of the mobile / remote Auction House.
It’s worth making sure that all your eggs are not in “one basket” and to learn how to also use the wowuction website.
Coming Back for Battle for Azeroth?
There is conflicting hearsay about whether the mobile auction house will return for Battle for Azeroth Expansion (announced for August 14th 2018). One source saying that it had been totally discontinued for financial reasons, with very few players using it, and that the loss of the website interface pointed to it being far too difficult to reinstate unless re-written from the ground up.
At the same time, another source on Reddit says that “They already said at Blizzcon 2017 that both current apps would be retired for a new all inclusive app”
It would be a very strange, backwards step to remove a mobile app in a world increasingly accessing the internet from mobile devices. The Legion app, which allowed you to manage your order hall and your alts, has been a success.
I’d like to believe that a new remote auction house app is coming, but my fear is that with the hype surrounding Battle for Azeroth, and the focus more and more on pvp esports and pve mythic invitational esports, that “AH pvp” is simply not a priority for Blizzard devs.
Suggested Solution – Charge Extra for the Remote Auction House
Reading through the World of Warcraft Magazine number 3 (published in 2010) I found a reference to the Warcraft Mobile Auction House in this article that could give a suggested solution.
