Real Talk
Gold Queen Website has 6 months left to live
Good morning readers. It’s May 2018.
Since October 2010 I have focused on bringing you the World’s best gold guides.
When I look back at guides written in 2010 and 2011 I cringe at their ineptitude. Yet behind the “what I did today”s and the “how I sneakily made 100g” was always that intention to serve and to help. Over time we became an amazing resource. A mixture of how-tos, opinions, news, catch-ups, humour, ideas, and reminders.
Ah, reminders. Sometimes, half of my job is reminding you of old gold making ideas that you once knew and have forgotten, and the other half is encouragement, telling you that you can do it, you just need to organise yourself, get things in order, google the right guides, put them together in the right order, reward yourself, keep going.
Real Loss
The Gold Queen has been making a financial loss IRL for 8 years.
I’ve been bankrolling TGQ from my own pocket.
You may be surprised to hear this, but costs of hosting, newsletter storage, AWS, antipiracy software, accountancy, ISP, electricity. I also INSIST on paying graphics creators their full due worth.
When I started blogging in 2010, the world’s largest warcraft gold blogger told me to fake it til you make it. Pretend you’re a guru, that you know everything, never admit to having to look up information, never show humanity or weakness. I disagreed. I decided in 2010 that being human, making mistakes in public, being available, laughing with you, hanging out with you, supporting you on twitch and twitter and facebook, were the important things. I decided not to demand money from you. But now I’m in need.
I need some financial support from you.
Please.
I can understand why it’s hard to financially support me. After all, I’m autistic, and sometimes I have an autistic regression and burnout crashes down on me like depression for months, where I lose a lot of speech and personal care abilities. Who wants to pay for nothing? It makes me feel ashamed. That’s why when I come out of regression I blog like crazy, pumping out guide after guide at 2am, 4am, I want to make it up to you.
I need financial support. I deserve financial support.
Imagine a plumber comes to your house and says “I’ll give you 80% of the plumbing for free, just pay me for the last 20%” Or your internet provider says “I’ll give you free internet for 80% of the month, but the last 6 days you need to pay”.
80% of The Gold Queen is free. And will remain free, for as long as I can give that to you.
If you want the last 20%, and the whole 100% organised in easy to follow format, you are invited to support my patreon.
I want to give you TGQ for free forever. But without support, TGQ is scheduled to close on 1 November 2018

Patreon-supported Membership-only video website
Give Me It Free
“if you close TGQ, then someone else will do it for free”
There are already 20-50 other players giving away content for free.
Gold Farmers have always been giving away free content. But after a year of giving, they are burnt out, worn out, poor, tired and exhausted. They move on. I have a long list of wonderful, good hearted gold makers who have given to the community but were not supported. Don’t make me list them. They’re good people and don’t deserve negative words.
Without TGQ, gold making will continue. There will be an endless parade of new twitch streamers, new youtubers, new bloggers, new redditors, new writers, who discover useful information, give it to you, and move on. Tiny Bites. Little pieces of the puzzle.
The gold making puzzle needs understanding from start to finish. When I’m gone, no one else will know. You’ll have no organising, no encouragement, no reminders, no check lists, no cheat sheets. You’ll have an endless parade of “I’m the best” “no I’m the best” “no me!”
Are there any gold makers who know the whole economy from start to finish?
TLDR: Someone already does it for free. They do tiny parts of it for free. Only the parts that are profitable for google, or youtube, not profitable for you.
How to Keep TGQ Going
- A small donation to TGQ personally over Ko-Fi. You’ll help me buy my food this week, but not to keep the website going.
- Become a Patreon. You get beta access to the video course.
- Send me a hug. If you can’t afford $1 a week, then I totally sympathise. Come hug me on twitter?
Remember: TGQ becomes profitable by November 1, 2018, or we close.

Hamster Wheel
This is you
You run from youtube guide to youtube guide.
“how to farm 50,000g an hour using this one weird trick” to “patch 9.7 secret new items how to farm”
I get emails from you.
I get DMs from you.
“Hi, what’s the fastest place to farm?”
“where can I farm the best transmogs?”
“I followed this guide but none of the items sold”
“everyone else is farming this, why don’t my things sell?”
Do You Know How Enraging It Is?
To see you all suckered in by things like this?
You’re intelligent. You’re clever.
But you’re hamsters on a wheel.
Jumping from fail idea to fail idea.
Farm spot to farm spot.
Hello! It’s Me, TGQ! Let me show you my free system!
“Your free system is boring.”
There is nothing boring about being rich.
But if you want to jump back on the hamster wheel? Be my guest.
When you’re tired of running the hamster wheel, I’ll still be here.

GoldMaking Ethics – The Seller’s Mistake
The GoldMaking Ethics is a series of Warcraft Opinon Articles documenting responses to ethical questions posed on twitter on 8 May 2018.
Tweets are presented out of context, and you can click them to read the rest of the conversation. You are always welcome to chat with me on twitter where my name is @thegoldqueen and you can find Gold Dragon here also @Dragonbearjoe
We have 9 articles for you to read, culminating in a TGQ Long Read with my own opinions., today we talk about the ethical questions that arise when a seller makes a mistake on the Auction House and then comes to you to set it right.
Either a seller lists an item for the wrong price, and you have to decide whether to alert him, give it back, keep it, or laugh at his misfortune.
Or you list something for an unexpectedly high price. You profit, but at someone else’s expense.
I was interested in hearing about stories, experiences, and the reason why people choose to help and how they do it.
All stories were gathered in a judgement-free atmosphere. I understand if you disagree with other people or get upset by it, but during the Ethics Questions, we are examining responses in a detached scientific manner.
Big Mistake
Uschiaala would feel bad for someone who made a big AH mistake and try to resolve it, to make themselves feel better.
TLDR: I would feel bad for someone who made a big AH mistake, and would try to grab the item and get it back to them and hopefully make their day – that would make me feel good. But on the other hand, I never expect that from anyone if I'm the one making the blunder.
— Uschiaala (@uschiaala) May 9, 2018
Or, is all fair on the Auction House?
On the other hand, I also do feel that all's fair on the AH and I have made some cringeworthy mistakes myself (eg typos, or being new to TSM pricing) and I have messaged the buyer to congratulate them on a bargain due to my carelessness.
— Uschiaala (@uschiaala) May 9, 2018
RetPallyJill talks about how she saw a mistake and returned it. I wonder how she feels about helping out this new Warcraft player.
Last year I bought an item and sent it back to the seller. Turns out they were a genuine for-real level 40 and thought that getting 10g for Saltstone legs was an AH triumph.
— Scarlet Highlord RetPallyJil, the Ashbringer 🔥 (@RetPallyJil) May 8, 2018
Does it depends on the way the mistake-maker communicates?
Grimes thinks that threatening to report makes him feel hostile to the mistake-maker, and Runesael points out that not everyone can communicate well and that how you respond says more about the responder than the mistake-maker.
Imo they lost the capacity to have my empathy the minute this hypothetical person threatened to report me. Had they just been kind and asked for their money back, that’s a different story.
— grimes (@gigitrashtits) May 8, 2018
Not everyone responds graciously to unexpected inconvenience. How we reply to their actions days more about us than it does them.
— Rune de la Peña Johansson (@Runesael) May 8, 2018
What if we split the difference?
Brunold tries to find a middle ground
I'd give them the difference, or find another solution because I was in that situation and the buyer was an extremely kind person. I didn't contact them, they gave it voluntarily. Showing the same kindness to others is the least I could do in return.
— Brunold, a gnome mage pondering real life (@TobiasTegge) May 8, 2018
We provide a service
Heather talks about how the Auction House sellers are providing a service to buyers.
Also I understand there are new players but I mean, I was a new player five years ago and I googled literally everything. Even if the person was a new player, if they’re crafting or whatever you need the rod for, they probably know to look online if they’re crafting at all.
— ˗ˏˋheather, whateverˊˎ˗ (@sylveonas_) May 8, 2018
Let’s Chat
Darkshore Capital wants to chat with the mistake-maker and thinks that teaching is helpful.
Remember, give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish, he feeds himself forever.
Really depends, I'm always open to have a conversation and if someone sounds like they are willing to be helped and want to be I'm more than happy to teach. It takes both sides to make it work though
— Darkshore Capital (@DarkshoreCap) May 8, 2018
We all make mistakes
Give it back. We all make mistakes.
— Pier Donnini (@pierdonnini) May 8, 2018
Is it a learning opportunity?
As someone whom has fallen for this, I have no sympathy. It’s a game and we are always learning. Let it go and go make your gold back.
— Bradley Doerhoff (@Moviefone1011) May 8, 2018
Over to you
What’s your opinion on dealing with a regretful mistake-maker?

GoldMaking Ethics – AFK Farming
The GoldMaking Ethics is a series of Warcraft Opinion Articles documenting responses to ethical questions posed on Twitter on 8 May 2018.
Tweets are presented out of context, and you can click them to read the rest of the conversation. You are always welcome to chat with me on twitter where my name is @thegoldqueen and you can find Gold Dragon here also @Dragonbearjoe
We have 9 articles for you to read, culminating in a TGQ Long Read with my own opinions. Today, we’re looking at a particularly dodgy, yet totally legitimate, method of making gold in warcraft: AFK farming. It’s not (yet?) a widely used method of gold farming requiring very little input
All stories were gathered in a judgement-free atmosphere. I understand if you disagree with other people or get upset by it, but during the Ethics Questions, we are examining responses in a detached scientific manner.
Some didn’t understand what AFK farming was
Afk farming: say you want to grow things, such as the Halfhill farm in pandaland, I could see afk farming being useful for something that took 24 -48 hours to grow and was automatically reset (or with phone app lets say) and you could physically go there to change the stock.
— 🌠StarWolf🐺 (@Wolfhound7919) May 8, 2018
I’m not going to call out any gold making teachers at all, because differences between our methods does not make one good and one bad. This is a judgmental-free zone right now!
However I do need to explain what I mean by “AFK Farming”
You need a windwalker monk, and a location where mobs spawn quickly, such as
- Southern Barrens
- Shadow Labyrinth dungeon
- Nagrand Clefthoof
- Silithus Twilight Base Camp
Spec your Monk with Chi Orbit and Black Ox Statue

In summary, your ox statue taunts all the mobs and Chi Orbit kills them. You need only tab back to your screen every 5 minutes to loot. It’s like botting, but its totally legitimate.
What interested me was whether legitimate meant ethical to TGQ website readers? Remember: non judgemental! Just wanted to know a wide variety of opinions.
Honesty is Best
Ashwind says bugs and cheats are a cheap way of doing things.
I feel that honesty is the best way to build a solid base for gold making. Abusing bugs and cheats are really a cheap way of going about it. I also believe it's on the student to do a bit of research before jumping in, especially in too good to be true scenarios.
— Optimistic Ashwind, the Curious One (@AshwindGamer) May 8, 2018
Its not worth it
KT_Deathope says gold teachers have a responsibility to point out what’s ethical and what’s not.
Any gold making that may feel dishonest or sketchy should be researched or avoided. Gold teachers should make it clear whats a bit "off" or simply stick to ethical imo. Its not worth losing your account to make a bit of extra gold in my mind 🙂
— The Heraldin (@Deathope_) May 8, 2018
Botting is a no-no
Not AFK Farming, but botting is no way acceptable in WoW, says Bradley
Botting is no way a good thing for the game. Afk farming in my eyes is just mindless farming while twitch watching. There is nothing wrong with that. Make a target macro loot and move through the motions.
— Bradley Doerhoff (@Moviefone1011) May 8, 2018
Over to you
AFK Farming. Its totally legitimate, its very easy, and it works. How do you feel about it? Exploit or Clever way to make gold? I’m open to hearing your opinions!

5 Million Gold Mount Datamined in Battle for Azeroth
Wowhead have datamined a 5 million gold Brutosaur Dinosaur Mount
Here he is!
The Mighty Caravan Brutosaur costs 5 million gold and comes with a special surprise for gold makers.
He comes in five colours:
- Green
- White
- Khaki
- Blue/Teal
- Grey/Purple belly
All the colours are shown over on wowhead!
Why is the Brutosaur 5 million gold?
Because he has an Auctioneer NPC on his back. Anyone with this mount can pop an auction house anywhere they want!
Brutosaur Giveaway
I would love to giveaway a 5 million gold mount.
I can only giveaway one, so don’t message me asking for it!
Instead, I’m going to brainstorm the best way to make sure that everyone has a fair chance, and promotes the website www.thegoldqueen.com most fairly.
Livestream Giveaway?
At www.twitch.tv/thegoldqueen we have the ability to record interaction and then enter all users into a raffle. This would be a fun way to give away a Brutosaur mount but perhaps it would leave out long term readers who
or Website giveaway?
Perhaps a website-hunt where you must find hidden words on the website and then enter by email?
Your opinion?
If you have any ideas about the best, more fair way, to give away the 5 million gold Brutosaur Mount, just write them in the comments!

Goldmaking Ethics – The Expensive Mount
The GoldMaking Ethics is a series of Warcraft Opinion Articles documenting responses to ethical questions posed on Twitter on 8 May 2018.
Tweets are presented out of context, and you can click them to read the rest of the conversation. You are always welcome to chat with me on twitter where my name is @thegoldqueen and you can find Gold Dragon here also @Dragonbearjoe
We have 9 articles for you to read, culminating in a TGQ Long Read with my own opinions. Today, I posed a question about an expensive item that your guild mate can’t afford.
All stories were gathered in a judgement-free atmosphere. I understand if you disagree with other people or get upset by it, but during the Ethics Questions, we are examining responses in a detached scientific manner.
Ethics:
Your guildie really wants a mount. He's been working hard to afford one.You sell these mounts. The price is going up and up in the AH.
Your guildie sighs in guild chat, he feels like he'll never get one. That someone on the AH is putting the prices up.
You do what?
— The Gold Queen 💛 (@thegoldqueen) May 8, 2018
Just Give it To Them!
Kaiaphin goes for the kind approach
If you can, you gift them the mount. I do it all the time.
— Kaiaphin_CtR (@Kaiaphin_CtR) May 9, 2018
Better than a Gift?
Nef thinks education is even better than an item. As someone whose job it is to give you gold making education, I approve!
I'd give him gold-making tips. In this case, since he's sighing in gchat and possibly knows you sell them, he's probably expecting you to give him one, and I'd ignore his passive aggressiveness. If there's a rumour he'll resell, then absolute no to giving/selling him one.
— Nef (@NefNeferteri) May 8, 2018
Take a Risk, it could be worth it
It was worth it for Enikka. How cute.
Traded a spectral tiger to my husband. Told him the choice was his on whether he kept it or sold it. I smiled when he mounted up next to me on his matching kitty.
— Enikka_CTR (@Enikka_Huntress) May 8, 2018
Other side of the discussion
Llanilek would have no qualms.
I would ride around on said mount in front of them. Usually circling them typing /silly
— Llanilek (@Llanilek) May 8, 2018
Over to you
What would you do in this situation?
