Use Dalaran to Access the WoW Auction House

I want to share with you an observation I’ve discovered.  I’ve writted “Dalaran is the new Exodar” as the title, and for anyone who chats to me regularly, you’ll know that my bankalts were previously parked in the Exodar for access to the Auction House.

The Exodar was quiet, lag-free, and the distance from the mailbox to the AH was the closest , before the patch where they introduced the new mailboxes.   I wasn’t constantly bothered by “wow, dude, how did you get so much gold? can you teach me?”  or “can you sell me some flasks/gems/scrolls” or “can you play my game for me, I’ll pay you” pests.   Frankly, they took away my time from actually making gold in the AH.

Buyers invariably want to chat.  AH just gives me the shinies!

I had access to the trade channel for advertising.

/2 Does your bf need more stamina? does your guild leader want to fill the socket in your pants? Come to Feb’s Gems or check AH now! Cheapest on server (etc etc etc)

There’s a bank nearby, and a short run of limited supply vendors, including the popular moth pets.  In short, Exodar was built for auction gold makers like myself!  But all that has changed.  Exodar now has a dozen other annoying bankalts with names like “disenchantbank”  or “petsupplies”, which totallly wind me up.

Dalaran is the new Exodar. Please take a moment to think about it:

dalaran
  1. Dalaran is empty. No lag. No pests.
  2. There are 2 banks.  There are vendors galore, and trades trainers.
  3. A new steam-auctioneer mechano-thing creates a faction-specific AH.
  4. Which happens to have a vendor stood right next to it, perfect for buy-for-vendor snatches.
  5. And also happens to have a mailbox nearby.
  6. Access to trade channel.
  7. Did I mention its the only place to trade for your inferno inks?
  8. Ok, you can’t get back through a portal anymore, but you have a hearthstone, dont you?

Visit Dalaran using a Kirin Tor ring or the Jaina’s locket portal.  The investment is worth it.

Farming Volatiles

A little change from the usual boasting about my Auction House buying/selling. The new Volatile Air, Volatile Earth, Volatile Fire and Volatile Water have quickly become staples in both the crafting market and in the buying and selling trades.   If you want to take a break from the Auction House, here is where you can easily farm these special items, which will sell for a good price.

The most expensive one at the moment is Volatile Air, which you can farm in the Twilight Highlands at The Twilight Breach, an area between Victors Point (alliance) and the Gullet (Horde).  They sometimes spawn alone and sometimes are with a caster mob.  Both are easy to kill and often drop volatile air, which are selling for enormous profit on the AH.

Volatile Water drop from elementals on the river in Twilight Highlands near the horde and alliance starting towns.  They have a good respawn rate.

Volatile Earth can also be farmed from Twilight Highlands near Thundermar and Blood Gulch, and you can also get them from mining.

Volatile Fire is most easiest farmed from the fishing pools that spawn around Ragnaros and Sulphuron Spire in Mount Hyjal. Drop in a fishing cast, and fish up your gold! Easy!

Twilight Highlands is the new Shadowmoon Valley!

Cataclysm Herbs

The new herbs for cataclysm are:

Buying:
If you’re buying these, like me, for glyph making, please remember that they *all* make Ashen Pigment, so just buy whichever is cheapest. My alchemist is also a herbalist, and I’m intending to level up her herb gathering and alchemy together, so lucky me I don’t have to buy two sets of herbs!

Selling:
The price trend I’m seeing on my main server at the moment is that it started high (typically 10g per herb), flew immediately higher and higher until a peak (20g+) and over the week it dropped down to approximately twice the normal market costs of WOTLK price.

However, there has either been a stealthy drop-rate nerf, or demand for the herbs has shot up in the last 48 hours, because prices have begun to rise again, and are now approaching what will become the normal market price per herb.

Gathering:
The Gatherer addon by Norgannon still works for Cataclysm, but the wowhead database is not yet up to date, so you will need to gather your own data “on the fly” rather than downloading that database.  If you are in a guild, you can share data automatically, but there is also an option to share data with another player.

My World of Warcraft Auction House Canaries are Singing.

A surprise profit from Cataclysm – GLYPHS!

Yes, you read that right, Glyphs!

One of the side effects of player’s focus on Cataclysm, and the new Cataclysm items is their complete neglect of other items. I have been dropping some ‘canary’ items into the AH, which are items set for sale, at a good profit, as a warning signal to me that there is a potential market.  Today, some of my canaries started to sing in inscription, and I responded by dropping in a large number of glyphs for sale.

wellwell

So much for me promising a post on the new herbs. Screw the new stuff, gimme the gold!

World of Warcraft Cataclysm

Cataclysm has brought good and bad news for gold-makers in the auction house game.
I pre-bought a dozen Savoury Deviate Delight recipes just under 1,000g each, only for them to become a common drop worth 30g, not the rarer 5-6,000g I hoped.

Also you should *stop buying* runecloth, which was previously a great seller for rep-grinders. With the new tabards, runecloth isn’t as much as it is, so I would recommend you stop buying it for a while, until the prices begin to settle back down again.

bollife

In other news, there are a lot of opportunities to buy. Good sellers seem to be:

  • elementium ore/bars
  • heartblossom
  • volatile life and fire – both fast movers with occasional very low prices.
  • savage leather

I wish you lots of luck in the next few days of Cataclysm! I’ll be covering the new herb opportunities in the next post.

The removal of portals in Dalaran created a sudden surge in demand for portals from mages.

[box type=”info”] “But all of that has now paled in comparison to the vital and lucrative role that mages find themselves in now, making thousands of gold offering transportation out of Dalaran for travelers. Numbers estimate that Blizzard received 2.5 million gold and the promise to back off on complaints about warlocks stealing mage powers in future patch releases”[/box]

How much have *you* made? I’m clocking about 100g an hour.
