In a moment, I’ll tell you the single most shocking reason why you need help to get world of warcraft gold.

You’ll learn why World of Warcraft gold guides are selling so fast, and why however hard you work, you can’t break the 100,000g barrier.

Despite farming, grinding, heroics, daily quests, obsidium shuffles until your disenchant macro broke.

I want you to do me a favor.  Go into your World of Warcraft main character and open your achievements panel (Shortcut: Y).  From the tab for ‘statistics’ at the bottom, choose ‘character > wealth’.  Look at how much gold your character has earned.

  1. Total gold acquired
  2. Average gold earned per day
  3. Gold looted
  4. Gold from quest rewards
  5. Gold earned from auctions

Are you surprised?

There it is, the shocking reason why you need help to get world of warcraft gold.

Because you can’t control your spending!

You have already earned and made more WoW gold than you could possibly spend, and yet, you have done just that: spent it!  It’s gone.

Listen, there is no point buying world of warcraft gold guides, gold strategy plans, or reading warcraft tycoon’s blogs.  There’s no point buying low, selling high, and no point in researching and flipping rare epic weapons and valuable limited supply patterns if you are going to waste the lot!

WARNING:
If you can’t control your spending, then you might as well stop reading my blog.  In fact, here’s a link to the Disney princess store so you can channel your spending addiction to something more worthwhile.

I’m talking from experience here.  I used to go to the auction house every few levels with my characters, and kit them out with the latest gear, gems, enchants, and they would stand outside in the dull Ironforge sunshine, twinkling and dripping with epics. And I didn’t have a copper to my name.  Then I’d repeat the same mistake with each and every one of my alts, regardless of whether I would even play them again.

I even have a level 40 with a travellers tundra mammoth that I haven’t logged on in over a year. What a waste.

Go get yourself number 8 from my list of Essential Addons.  That addon is called pen and paper.  This week,  note down exactly what you’re spending every day, and why.  Figure out a way to control your spending addiction. Perhaps put some aside every day, or move all your gold to one piggy bank character that can hold it for you and make it more difficult for you to access and spend on crap you don’t need.  Before you invest in that “one time amazing deal” of a thousand stacks of silk cloth at half price, step back and think.  Deep inside, you know that they’re just going to sit in your bank, and you’re wasting your gold and your time. Stop Spending!

Please leave me a comment: What do you waste the most gold on?  What are you going to do over the next week to control your spending?  And come back to me next week and tell me whether you succeeded.

  1. Mcmokka have you ever done something like put a super-enchant on level 1 gear and used it for fast leveling? I suppose it doesn't make much difference now that there is all this heirloom stuff in game.

Back when it was trendy to have a level 19 twink, I decided to make a level 1 twink and hung about in Goldshire trying to get people to duel me. I wasn't very good at it though, much better at "AH pvp" than duelling!

  2. Vince, I like you being contrary! Being contrary, examining the other side of the argument, helps sort out exactly which bits are gonna work and which aren't.

And here, I'm gonna agree with you – I love buying things. If only I could make this much gold in real life, I think I would spend it all immediately on an enormous shoe closet!

What I was trying to get across is the really simple idea that you can either spend your gold, or save it, you can't do both. (sadly)

I wanted to make readers STOP and THINK about which choice they were going to make. Spend, or save.

I'd hate to think that anyone reading this blog would dutifully copy any of my ideas, cut n paste my strategies. Definitely take my techniques and see how you can apply them to your own server, your own gold-making goals.

  3. heh, glad to be of service Alto heh heh

  4. It's always the simple things that get you. I have had quite a few discusions with my guildies about a similar topic; they keep defending buying rares for their alts (reasonable rares, not the most expensive ones), as leveling becomes a lot faster. This got me thinking: If you consider leveling alts a timesink (which it is), where you could earn money instead, then it affects your GPH. If spending 1000 gold on decking out a char saves 3 hours of playing time, it's worth it, right?

It's an interesting thought. I never did this, since I like to play a char at lvl to get at least some practice for later dungeons at max level and such, but I can definetly see the point.

@ Vince: No matter how insanely decked out your character is at the moment, there will be a time where it's not close to enough. In itself, your gearscore or number of epics has zero gold value. Gear is the most inflated good of all in the game. I believe it goes like this: Gear < gold < Raw mats. No-one will ever pay much for a sweet epic from an old expansion.
Therefore every time there's a major patch we stock up on mats and sell our outdated BoE epics. Having extra gold makes you able to move with the flow, to invest in new mats (thus hopefully making money) or simply spending it on new and superior gear.

  5. Not to be wholly contrary, but spending is only an issue if you're trying to stockpile gold. Having everything you'd every want or need in WoW, but barely having 5k in liquid isn't a problem at all! Buying guides / reading blogs is very VERY vital if you're going to spend your gold, because you can't spend it if you don't have it!

That said, this is an excellent point if you don't have *enough* gold, or if you can't seem to reach a certain gold goal (e.g. 50k, 100k, etc.). I know from personal experience how hard it can be to reach a certain milestone (200k for me) when you keep spending it. I was yo-yoing around 100k for the longest time, but only because I kept buying epic for my specs. I only had around 100k liquid, but well over 200k in gear. Is this a bad thing? Depends on who you ask. My knowledge of making gold, obtained in large part from gold bolgs, allowed me to support my "epic addiction" without reducing me to begging for scraps. So I don't think spending is a problem if you can support your sprees, and if you don't mind your stockpile staying somewhat stationary.

If you can't support your spending habits, and you're finding that despite dutifully following gold blogs' advice you can barely stay afloat, then yes, taking a look at your spending habits is wise advice. Same with if you can't seem to break a barrier in your stockpile. But I disagree that spending your hard earned gold is a bad thing, and that you shouldn't bother with blogs and guides if you're going to use gold for the one thing it's actually good for!

That said, I'm totally planning on getting the Tundra Mount or a Mechano-Hog for my spriest when it's 40. Won't set me back anything I can't recoup in a few days, and it'll look sweet :)

  6. My minnie mouse sunglasses were 35% off! I was so happy I bought two! Thanks for linking, I am not sure what I would have done this summer without them!

    Thanks again for the reminder~!
